  • Several cases of classical swine fever (CSF) were reoccurred in Cheolwon province and Incheon city in 2002. Two isolates (Cheolwon and Incheon) of classical swine fever viruses (CSFV) were successfully isolated and classified into genotype-2 with a phylogenetic analysis [l, 2]. (omitted)

  • Several modalities that have been used in Korean medicine have not undergone evaluation. The Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM), a South Korean national research agency, launched the Korean medicine case Report (KORE) program in May 2019 to promote case reports, especially among clinicians. The aim was to (1) introduce the KIOM-initiated KORE program, (2) report the results from the KORE program, and (3) present the challenges and limitation from the KORE program. We conducted a narrative review of the cases to which KORE was applied. A total of 16 proposals were reviewed since May 2019. Five proposals were rejected, and 7 case reports were included. Case reports for 3 therapies have been created under guidance. The KORE program makes it easier for Korean medicine doctors to initiate and complete case reports.

  • Postweaning Multisystemic Wasting Syndrome (PMWS) is a recently described disease of growing pigs characterized by progressive weight loss and chronic pneumonia. PMWS was first identified in western Canada in 1995, and has now been diagnosed in the US, Europe and Asia. Since 1999, 57 pigs from 23 farms of PMWS have been diagnosed in the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service (NVRQS). The most common age of onest was clustered around 6-week age. • Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VREFM) is becoming a threatening pathogen. We identified a gene called DD1.5K by differential display-PCR, which was preferentially expressed in the bloodstream isolates of VREFM. Due to its amino acid similarity to transfer complex protein, trsE, and tissue-specific expression, this gene may be involved in virulence of VREFM.

  • Feline panleukopenia, also known as feline infectious enteritis or feline distemper, is a highly contagious generalized disease of cats caused by feline panleukopenia virus (FPLV) [2]. The disease is most severe in young, unvaccinated kittens between 6 and 24 weeks of age and is characterized by sudden onset of pronounced depression, anorexia and fever. The mortality rate ranges from 25 to 90% in the acute form [1, 2]. This study was reports for the enteritis caused by the infection of FPLV in imported cats. (omitted)

  • Purpose: Host modulatory therapy has been proposed as a treatment for periodontal diseases. A class of herbal medicines, known to be immunomodulators, alters the activity of immune function through the regulation of informational molecules such as cytokines. In the current study, we tested the hypothesis that herbal immunomodulator drugs act as an adjuvant to scaling and root planing (SRP) in alleviating periodontal inflammation by improving clinical and biochemical parameters. Methods: Sixty healthy subjects (30 in each group) with moderate and severe chronic periodontitis were enrolled in a double-blind, placebo-controlled, double-masked randomised controlled trial. The control group was treated with SRP and a placebo, whereas the test group was treated with SRP followed by dietary supplementation of Septilin for 3 weeks. Periodontal clinical parameters and serum C-reactive protein (CRP) levels were evaluated for all patients at the baseline, 3 weeks, and 6 weeks. Results: Improved gingival index scores found in the test group as compared to the control group were found to be statistically significant only after 3 weeks (P<0.001). In contrast, the decrease in the sulcus bleeding index and pocket depth scores was statistically highly significant in the test group as compared to the control group after 3 weeks and 6 weeks (P<0.001). However, reduced clinical attachment level and CRP scores, as reflected in the test group as compared to the control group, were not found to be statistically significant after both 3 weeks (P>0.05) and 6 weeks (P>0.05). Conclusions: The results of this clinical-biochemical study suggest that dietary supplementation with herbal immunomodulatory agents may be a promising adjunct to SRP and may aid in improving periodontal treatment outcomes.
