A Simulation-Based Exploration into The Effectiveness of IT-Enabled Knowledge Management Initiatives

  • Organizations are increasingly adopting Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) to effectively manage knowledge within the organization and realize firm and operational level benefits. However, many KMS implementations fail to yield desired outcomes due to the lack of understanding of the antecedent of successful knowledge management. Prior studies have established that organizational cultural values are one of the key enablers of knowledge management. We develop a computational model of organizational knowledge processes and employ simulations to examine the impact of KMS in different organizational cultural settings. We find that cultural values that govern the employees' predisposition towards seeking knowledge from others have a greater influence on KMS effectiveness than those that govern the employees' attitudes towards sharing their knowledge with others. We also find that organizations with cultures that foster high levels knowledge sharing behaviors can expect performance gains if KMS implementations incorporate knowledge seeking activities into the employees' work processes.

BDI Architecture Based on XML for Intelligent Multi-Agent Systems

  • Many intelligent agent systems are known to incorporate BDI architecture for cognitive reasoning. Since this architecture contains all the knowledge of world model and reasoning rule, it is very complex and difficult to handle. This paper describes a methodology to design and implement BDI architecture, BDIAXml based on XML for multi-agent systems. This XML-based BDI architecture is smaller than any other BDI architecture because it separates knowledge for reasoning from domain knowledge and enables knowledge sharing using XML technology. Knowledge for BDI mental state and reasoning is composed of specific XML files and these XML files are stored into a specific knowledge server. Most systems using BDIAxml architecture can access knowledge from this server. We apply this BDIAXml system to domain of Hospital Information System and show that this architecture performs more efficiently than other BDI architecture system in terms of knowledge sharing, system size, and ease of use.

Development of TPACK-P Education Program for Improving Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge of Pre-service Teachers

  • As the importance of technology increases, so too does its use in various areas. In education, technology is often used. However, due to teachers' lack of knowledge about technology, they often remain at the level of simple utilization, without applying it to learning. Thus, there is a growing need for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK), which enables teachers to have knowledge about technology and use it appropriately given the content. Although TPACK studies are underway in many subjects, they suffer from the limited functionality of the included technology. To solve this problem, in this study, the range of technology in TPACK was extended to programming, and a TPACK-P model was developed to teach this expanded TPACK to pre-service teachers. To verify the effectiveness of this model, the TPACK-P training program developed during the 15th classes was applied to 19 pre-service teachers. We used Park and Kang (2014) as a tool to measure these teachers' TPACK before and after treatment to observe any changes. The results showed that the TPACK-P education program showed statistically significant improvement in all areas except Pedagogical Content Knowledge(PCK). Compared with the ICT-based TPACK training program, which was administered to a control group, the TPACK-P training program proved to be more effective in the development of Technological Pedagogical Knowledge(TPK) and TPACK among pre-service teachers.

  • 지식사회에서 주요자원은 지식이 되며 이러한 지식을 관리하는 도서관의 역할이 매우 중요하다. 기하급수적으로 증가하는 지식정보들 중 조직구성원들이 필요하고 유용한 지식만을 선택하여 이용자의 취향에 맞는 형태로 제공할 수 있는 지식정보관리가 필요하다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 기존의 도서관 정보봉사에서 나타나는 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 도서관이 수행해야 할 역할 및 기능들을 Help-Desk 서비스 측면에서 온라인과 오프라인으로 구성요인들을 조사하고 분석하였다. 이 결과를 토대로 웹기반 Help-Desk 지식관리 시스템 모형을 제시하였다.

IT아웃소싱 환경에서 도메인이해도가 성과에 미치는 영향: 조직학습, 지식이전 및 아웃소싱비율의 조절효과를 중심으로 (The effect of domain understanding on IT outsourcing performance based on a learning model of IT outsourcing)

  • Owing to the current economic downturn, one of the most important goals of the organizations who are actively involved in Information Technology Outsourcing (ITO) is the cost efficiency. We focus on supplier firm's domain understanding to make the cost efficiency; therefore, we examine how the disadvantages from lower domain knowledges affect outsourcing performance moderated by outsourcing ratio and knowledge change environments. That is, if clients can endure disadvantage from service providers' lower domain knowledge, they can achieve cost efficiency by choosing lower domain knowledge suppliers with less expensive cost. To examine performance gap depending on the environments, we applied 'A Learning Model of IT Outsourcing' which is suggested by previous literature. As a result, we suggest five strategies for clients to contract with suppliers which have lower domain knowledge: (1) Prepare the strategy to endure disadvantages from the early stage. (2) Make the strategy depending on outsourcing ratio. (3) Knowledge transfer between organizations is important. (4) Make a short-term contract if they do not have good environments for organizational learning. (5) Client's knowledge change environments are more important than those of supplier's. Finally, we offer various implications for clients and suppliers in IT outsourcing.

  • 본고는 쿼드러플 힐릭스 모형에서 사회 분야에 초점을 두고 대학의 역할을 모색하여 정책적 시사점을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 쿼드러플 힐릭스 모형은 사회 변화 반영의 한계를 보이는 트리플 힐릭스 모형을 보완하여, 지식의 민주주의를 기반으로 다양한 사회 주체 간 상호작용을 통해 혁신을 창출하는 과정을 제시한다. 이를 기반으로 본고는 기업가적 대학 모형에 지식의 민주주의와 사회적 혁신 이론을 검토한 결과를 적용한 '사회 기업가적 대학' 모형을 제안한다. 사회적 민주화 및 포용성이 담보된 쿼드러플 힐릭스 모형에서 사회 기업가적 대학은 교육의 역할을 강화하는 한편, 지역민을 포함한 광범위한 지역 주체의 상호작용을 구조화 및 촉진하는 플랫폼을 조성 및 촉진하는 데 교육 및 연구 역량을 할애하는 것이 중요하다.

The Effect of Interactivity between KIBS Firms and Customers on Innovations in KIBS Firms

  • In today's dynamic and hypercompetitive business environment, knowledge and innovation have emerged as bases for sustained competitive advantage. This paper addresses two specific research questions. First, we ask, "What is the effect that firm interactivity has on various types of innovation?" As we address this question, we explain that interactivity helps firms create knowledge, which then promotes and enables innovation. Second, we ask, "How do the various types of innovation impact firm performance?" We develop a research model and a set of hypotheses from the basis of organizational knowledge creation theory and the knowledge-based view of the firm. We test this model using survey data, and find that interactivity is positively associated with innovation. We also find that several types of innovation, including service innovation, process innovation, and organizational innovation have a positive impact on firm performance.

연구문헌의 지식구조를 반영하는 의미기반의 지식조직체계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Knowledge Organizing System of Research Papers Based on Semantic Relation of the Knowledge Structure)

  • 본 연구는 연구문헌의 지식구조를 반영하는 의미기반 지식조직체계의 실험적 모형을 제시하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 한국연구재단의 기초학문자료센터에 대한 사례분석을 하였다. 기초학문자료센터 연구성과물 DB와 학술용어 DR의 개념클래스 및 인스턴스를 대상으로 연구문헌의 지식구조를 파악하였으며, 기초학문자료센터 시스템의 학술적 이해형성 기능을 분석하였다. 또한 연구문헌의 지식구조와 색인어의 관계를 분석하였다. 이러한 분석을 통해 지식구조와 색인어의 관계구조, 26개의 연구문헌 지식구조 공리 및 11개의 의미관계 추론규칙으로 구성되는 온톨로지 모형, 즉 연구문헌의 지식구조와 그 의미관계에 의한 실험적 지식조직체계 모형을 제시하였다.

왜 인기 있는 직원이 지식공유를 하는가: 동기부여 관점에서 (Why Popular Employees Engage in Knowledge Sharing: The Motivational Approach)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the antecedents that impact on the individual knowledge sharing based on motivational perspectives. Specifically, the authors investigate the roles of general self-efficacy and popularity on knowledge sharing drawn on costly signaling theory and trait activation theory. Data from 227 pairs of employees and coworkers working in companies located in South Korea supported the model. General self-efficacy was positively related to knowledge sharing and popularity was positively associated to knowledge sharing. Also, by taking an interactional approach, our study demonstrated the moderating effect of popularity on the relationship between general self-efficacy and knowledge sharing. The positive relationship between general self-efficacy and knowledge sharing is significant when popularity is low, but not significant when popularity is high. Our findings suggest that the various motivation types including intrinsic and extrinsic motivations for knowledge sharing of individuals exist simultaneously and these motivations have an interactive effect on knowledge sharing.

  • The development of physiologically based pharmacokinetic model for drug distribution and excretion is described. The physiological modeling procedure is useful in animal and clinical applications to obtain fundamental knowledge of the transport and metabolism of a substance in vivo. In this paper a review of physiologically based pharmacokinetics is presented in the hope of understanding and increasing the use of this modelling technique. The method of model development and the composition of equations based on the different models are explained. For the better understanding a physiological pharmacokinetic model of tenoxicam disposition in the rat is presented as an example of flow limited model.
