  • As development of information technology, companies stress the need of knowledge management. Companies construct ERP system including knowledge management. But, it is not easy to formalize knowledge in organization. They experience that constructing information system help knowledge management. Now, we focus on engineering knowledge. Because engineering data contains experts' experience and know-how in its own, engineering knowledge is a treasure house of knowledge. Korean shipyards are leader of world shipbuilding industry. They have accumulated a store of knowledges and data. But, they don't have data minning tool to utilize accumulated data. This paper treats development of data minning tools for the utilization of shipbuilding knowledge based on genetic programming (GP).

  • Traditional frequent pattern mining considers equal profit/weight value of every item. Weighted Frequent Pattern (WFP) mining becomes an important research issue in data mining and knowledge discovery by considering different weights for different items. Existing algorithms in this area are based on fixed weight. But in our real world scenarios the price/weight/importance of a pattern may vary frequently due to some unavoidable situations. Tracking these dynamic changes is very necessary in different application area such as retail market basket data analysis and web click stream management. In this paper, we propose a novel concept of dynamic weight and an algorithm DWFPM (dynamic weighted frequent pattern mining). Our algorithm can handle the situation where price/weight of a pattern may vary dynamically. It scans the database exactly once and also eligible for real time data processing. To our knowledge, this is the first research work to mine weighted frequent patterns using dynamic weights. Extensive performance analyses show that our algorithm is very efficient and scalable for WFP mining using dynamic weights.

  • Data mining means a process of nontrivial extraction of hidden knowledge or potentially useful information from data in large databases. Data mining algorithm is a multi-disciplinary field of research; machine learning, statistics, and computer science all make a contribution. Different classification schemes can be used to categorize data mining methods based on the kinds of tasks to be implemented and the kinds of application classes to be utilized, and classification has been identified as an important task in the emerging field of data mining. Since classification is the basic element of human's way of thinking, it is a well-studied problem in a wide varietyof application. In this paper, we propose a classifier system based on genetic algorithm with robust property, and the proposed system is evaluated by applying it to nDmC problem related to classification task in data mining.

  • The purpose of this paper is to define the concept of KAD/KAM, furthermore is to establish my own idea on the knowledge related works in engineering domain for a next decade ahead. KAD/KAM is represented as "Knowledge Everywhere" based on the concept of ubiquitous computing in engineering domain. At the beginning of the paper, the definition of KAD/KAM is described. And the related technologies to realize KAD/KAM, such as augmented reality, ontology, data mining, and knowledge management, are introduced. The concept of KAD/KAM is still immature. But this will be a new paradigm to change entire engineering environment in near future.

  • A semiconductor manufacturing process is the complicate and dynamic process, and consists of many sub-processes. An etching process is the most important process in the semiconductor fabrication. In this paper, the decision support system based upon data mining and knowledge discovery is an important factor to improve the productivity and yield. The proposed decision support system consists of a neural network model and an inference system based on fuzzy logic Firstly, the product results are predicted by the neural network model constructed by the product patterns that represent the quality of the etching process. And the product patters are classified by expert's knowledge. Finally, the product conditions are estimated by the fuzzy inference system using the rules extracted from the classified patterns. Prediction of product qualities can be linked to each input and process variables. We employ data mining and intelligent techniques to find the best condition of the etching process. The proposed decision support system is efficient and easy to be implemented for the process management based upon expert's knowledge.

  • An effective educational program warrants the inclusion of an innovative construction which enhances the higher education efficacy in such a way that accelerates the achievement of desired results and reduces the risk of failures. Educational Decision Support System (EDSS) has currently been a hot topic in educational systems, facilitating the pupil result monitoring and evaluation to be performed during their development. Insufficient information systems encounter trouble and hurdles in making the sufficient advantage from EDSS owing to the deficit of accuracy, incorrect analysis study of the characteristic, and inadequate database. DMTs (Data Mining Techniques) provide helpful tools in finding the models or forms of data and are extremely useful in the decision-making process. Several researchers have participated in the research involving distributed data mining with multi-agent technology. The rapid growth of network technology and IT use has led to the widespread use of distributed databases. This article explains the available data mining technology and the distributed data mining system framework. Distributed Data Mining approach is utilized for this work so that a classifier capable of predicting the success of students in the economic domain can be constructed. This research also discusses the Intelligent Knowledge Base Distributed Data Mining framework to assess the performance of the students through a mid-term exam and final-term exam employing Multi-agent system-based educational mining techniques. Using single and ensemble-based classifiers, this study intends to investigate the factors that influence student performance in higher education and construct a classification model that can predict academic achievement. We also discussed the importance of multi-agent systems and comparative machine learning approaches in EDSS development.

  • Data mining is the process of extracting hidden patterns from collected data. At this time, for collected data which take important role as the basic information for prediction and recommendation, the process to discriminate incorrect data in order to enhance the performance of analysis result, is needed. The existing methods to discriminate unexpected data from collected data, mainly relies on methods which are based on statistics or simple distance between data. However, for these methods, the problematic point that even meaningful data could be excluded from analysis due that the environment and characteristic of the relevant data are not considered, exists. This study proposes a method to endow human heuristic knowledge with weight value through the comparison between collected data and human heuristic knowledge, and to use the value for creating a decision tree. The data discrimination by the method proposed is more credible as human knowledge is reflected in the created tree. The validity of the proposed method is verified through an experiment.

  • Spatiotemporal data mining represents the confluence of several fields including spatiotemporal databases, machine loaming, statistics, geographic visualization, and information theory. Exploration of spatial data mining and temporal data mining has received much attention independently in knowledge discovery in databases and data mining research community. In this paper, we introduce an algorithm Max_MOP for discovering moving sequences in mobile environment. Max_MOP mines only maximal frequent moving patterns. We exploit the characteristic of the problem domain, which is the spatiotemporal proximity between activities, to partition the spatiotemporal space. The task of finding moving sequences is to consider all temporally ordered combination of associations, which requires an intensive computation. However, exploiting the spatiotemporal proximity characteristic makes this task more cornputationally feasible. Our proposed technique is applicable to location-based services such as traffic service, tourist service, and location-aware advertising service.

  • This paper illustrates a prototyping framework of the documentation-standards retrieval system via the data mining approach for enhancing software development quality. We first present an approach for designing a retrieval algorithm based on data mining, with the three basic technologies of machine learning, statistics and database management, applied to this system to speed up the searching time and increase the fitness. This approach derives from the observation that data mining can discover unsuspected relationships among elements in large databases. This observation suggests that data mining can be used to elicit new knowledge about the design of a subject system and that it can be applied to large legacy systems for efficiency. Finally, software development quality will be improved at the same time when the project managers retrieving for the documentation standards.

  • Recently the importance of the utilization of engineering data is gradually increasing. Engineering data contains the experiences and know-how of experts. Data mining technique is useful to extract knowledge or information from the accumulated existing data. This paper deals with generating optimal polynomials using genetic programming (GP) as the module of Data Mining system. Low order Taylor series are used to approximate the polynomial easily as a nonlinear function to fit the accumulated data. The overfitting problem is unavoidable because in real applications, the size of learning samples is minimal. This problem can be handled with the extended data set and function node stabilization method. The Data Mining system for the ship design based on polynomial genetic programming is presented.
