Many R&D organizations have interests on knowledge management system(KMS) to organize and utilize their knowledge resources. Currently, for research collaboration and knowledge management R&D organizations use either a specialized knowledge management system or a set of general application systems such as basic messaging system and document management system. The objectives of this paper are to identify important functionalities of knowledge management systems based on team characteristics and knowledge process of research teams in research organizations and to provide implications to design and implement knowledge management system for R&D teams. Survey results show that research teams perceive communication, collaboration and connection functionalities are important when their team sizes are large or they are distributed. During knowledge capture process, they need personalization of knowledge to reduce information overload.
Employees' knowledge integration capabilities and innovative behavior are still of crucial importance in the effective knowledge management. Recently researchers and practitioners are interested in both the potential benefits of unlearning and the negative aspects of learning inertia. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships among learning inertia, unlearning, knowledge integration capabilities(knowledge exploitation and knowledge exploration) and innovative behavior. The results of analysis show that learning inertia is employees' psychological obstacle factor affecting knowledge integration capabilities and unlearning, that unlearning of employees is a key factor affecting knowledge integration capabilities, and that knowledge integration capabilities are driving forces leading to innovative behaviors of employees. For theoretical and practical implications, the research presents the grounds for arguments that knowledge integration capabilities are employees' dynamic capabilities from the knowledge management perspective, that unlearning is a driving force of employees' positive behaviors, and that organizations trying to perform the dynamic knowledge management need to identify the causes of employees' psychological resistance to learning. Limitations arisen in the course of the research and suggestions for future research directions are also discussed.
Unlike the traditional belief that knowledge flows along the formal reporting procedures, recent social network research has reported the importance of informal social networks which may play a critical role as the real knowledge conduits. In fact, as a complementary approach of utilizing knowledge management systems (KMSs), many firms have focused on managing informal knowledge flow through which to acquire and transfer valuable knowledge in a fast and effective way. In a case of global companies that have newly developed foreign branches or subsidiaries, due to cultural or institutional differences and lack of understanding of knowledge management and its benefits, they often have difficulties in activating knowledge sharing in local branches. In these situations, diagnosing organizational knowledge flow through SNA can be a first step to solve the problems. Therefore, in this paper, I report on the result of case study on a foreign branch of "A" global company by identifying organizational knowledge paths. Based on the results of the diagnosis, some implications and insights for building knowledge management (KM) strategy specified for a newly developed foreign branch will also be discussed.
Many companies have tried, with mixed success, to leverage knowledge resources by knowledge sharing functions. Trust is one of the integral factors for fostering knowledge sharing. This paper categorizes trust on the basis of its multi-dimension and multi-level. In view of this category, it investigates the relationship between trust and knowledge sharing. A sample of 191 employees from 24 companies is used for an empirical exploration. Our analysis results imply that both organizational trust and trust among peers are crucial for effective knowledge sharing.
Individuals' knowledge does not transform easily into organizational knowledge even with the implementation of knowledge management system in travel agency. A prior research stream emphasizes voluntariness, as a critical factor in knowledge sharing, but pays little attention to its role. We employ theoretical framework and augment it with extrinsic variables, voluntariness of knowledge sharing that are believed to influence customer orientation and market performance of travel agency. Using data on travel agency employee, the authors find considerable results and conclude by discussing prescriptive recommendations for the travel industry.
Purpose: This study was conducted to survey knowledge, compliance, and quality of life of mothers who have children with atopic dermatitis, and to determine whether above mentioned factors influence each other. Methods: The participants in this study were 165 mothers of children with atopic dermatitis recruited from one out-patient clinic in a hospital in Seoul. The data were collected between March 8, and April 16, 2010 using a structured questionnaire. Results: The mean score for participants' knowledge was 4.17/5, for compliance, 4.27/5 and for quality of life, 3.42/5. Among the five domains of quality of life, emotional status had the lowest score (3.20/5). Knowledge was significantly correlated with compliance (r=.215, p<.005). However, quality of life was not correlated with knowledge (r=-.069) and compliance (r=-.077). Conclusion: Accurate knowledge affects compliance of mothers of children with atopic dermatitis. Therefore, to increase the level of compliance, it is necessary to enhance the knowledge of the mothers. Results also suggest that interventions are needed to improve poor quality of life, particularly the emotional condition of mothers of children with atopic dermatitis.
Purpose: This study was done to identify the level and correlation of knowledge and practice of fever management at home and provide data for the development of an intervention program to improve the fever management ability of mothers of preschool age children. Methods: Participants were 112 mothers with children between 1 and 6 years of age and attending one of three daycare centers located in J city. The participants had a history of using medication and tepid massage. Data were collected during April, 2016. Results: The mean scores were 27.55 (correct answer rate 70.64%) of 39 for knowledge, and 75.93 of 92 for fever management practice. There were significant differences in scores for knowledge according to the number of children and number of visits to doctors for treatment of a fever. There were no differences in scores for practice. There was a positive correlation between knowledge and practice. Conclusion: Results indicate that mothers' knowledge and practice of childhood fever management were insufficient to provide accurate management of childhood fevers. Therefore, to improve the mothers' ability to provide appropriate fever management, educational strategies that focus on increasing knowledge need to be developed.
Purpose: Asthma is the most common chronic disease of childhood. It's important mother's caring for management of children with asthma. This study was to provide the evidenced data for preparing an educational program by identifying the knowledge level and educational demand about pediatric asthma of mothers of children with asthma. Method: The subjects were 91 mothers of children with asthma who admitted at 3 hospital in Busan. The data were collected through a self-reporting questionnaire from Feburary to May, 2005. The data was analyzed by SPSS 10.0 program. Results: The total mean percentage of correct answer of knowledge about pediatric asthma was 55.6% and the total mean $score{\pm}SD$ of educational demand about pediatric asthma was $4.40{\pm}0.50$. The knowledge level was statistically different by recurrence number(F=3.08, p=.049). There was not correlation between knowledge level and eucational demand. Conclusions: The mothers of children with asthma had a medium knowledge level and a high educational demand. Based on the results, mothers' knowledge is an important part of children with asthma management. Therefore nursing intervention program for mothers of children with asthma should be developed and the mothers should cope with asthma effectively.
Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between oral health professionals' knowledge, attitude, and practice with regard to infectious waste management and to identify related factors influencing it. Methods: The study comprised of 219 oral health professionals from select dental clinics and public health centers recruited between August 25, 2016 and September 5, 2016, who agreed to participate in the study with full understanding of the study objectives. A self-reported questionnaire was administered, which consisted of 22 items on knowledge of infectious waste management, 9 items on attitude, and 16 items on practice. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise multiple regression analyses. Results: The age, knowledge, and clinical attitude of oral health professionals significantly correlated with waste management practice. Specifically, infectious waste management practice improved with increasing age, a greater level of knowledge, and a more positive clinical attitude. Additionally, the standardized regression coefficient demonstrated that, of these three factors, clinical attitude more strongly correlated with effective waste management practice, followed by age and level of knowledge. Conclusions: These results indicated that oral health professionals had a low level of knowledge regarding infectious waste management, and a more positive clinical attitude resulted in better practices. Therefore, the development of detailed and active education guidelines and strategies are needed to enhance the attitude, knowledge, and practice of oral health professionals with regard to infectious waste management.
