  • This paper aims to explore the success factors of knowledge management in the perspectives of knowledge management integration into operations and to examine the effect of those factors on the knowledge management performance of individual users and organizations in order to link knowledge management performances to operational performances. I found two factors such as "knowledge management integration into operation processes" and "knowledge management integration into application systems" and their measures by means of literature review and modified Delphi research. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis confirmed that those two factors and their measures are statistically valid. Besides, the structural equation modeling analysis showed that the relationship between "knowledge management integration into operation processes" and "individual user's performance on knowledge management" and the relationship between "individual user's performance of knowledge managemen" and "organizational performance of knowledge management" are significant.

  • This study examines the impact of knowledge management strategies and knowledge management determinants for each type of knowledge management of a company on knowledge activities, and because each company's situation and conditions are different, it is necessary to approach each knowledge management type. The analysis was conducted using the SPSS 18.0 program targeting 81 companies that have introduced knowledge management systems or knowledge management by categorizing them into technology-oriented and combined types. The result is that Initial types are based on changes in organizational structure and active adoption of information technology, and the Organizational knowledge centers use management systems (CEO support, performance compensation system, education and training system) and infrastructure building and information technology to maximize individual knowledge. The Information technology-oriented types rely more on information technology such as infrastructure building and information technology use rather than organizational knowledge. and the Combination type is understood as an educational and training system and decentralized organizational structure for the overall expansion of the organization. Through this study, effective and significant strategies, knowledge management determinants, and knowledge activities for each type were presented.

  • This study examines the role of perceived feedback and motivations on the use for contribution in Knowledge Management Systems (KMS). An individual expects responses from others when he or she posts the knowledge or questions of soliciting knowledge in KMS. If an individual posts a message and there are many responses, motivation to use KMS will develop. Prior research has considered feedback a potential factor that would affect an individual's motivation, such as self-efficacy, but there is few prior works that have tested empirically on how feedback can influence an individual's motivations as well as the use for contribution in KMS. Perceived feedback can be categorized into feedback on posted knowledge and feedback on knowledge request postings. The results of the study show that motivations such as organizational reward, knowledge self-efficacy, and enjoyment of helping, except for social reward, are associated with the use for contribution. Our results also show that among perceived feedback, feedback on posted knowledge affects motivation and use for contribution while feedback on knowledge request postings directly influences the use for contribution.

  • The purpose of this study are as follows : First, This study conceptually provide an insight of reasons that organizations seek to create, acquire, store and distribute knowledge at the level of an organization and of process how they can transform or evolve to knowledge based organizations. Second, this study confirms examine what theories can be used to knowledge management, how such theories can be useful to analyse knowledge management and provide a theoretical foundation for knowledge management research. Applied to the theories of knowledge based and resource based view and institutional theory, the essence of knowledge management confirms that the organization finds job-related knowledge and know-how retained by individual of organizational members systematically and shares common knowledge within the organization and explains knowledge creation, multi-dimensional knowledge transition and share in all dimension of individual, group, and organization. As a result of comparative analysis of theory of organizational knowledge creation theory, In knowledge management, building of knowledge-creative culture, transitional process of explicit knowledge and tacit knowledge, knowledge creation and knowledge operation are important. In the basis on these study results, we discussed how the organizational knowledge creation theory can be used to manage knowledge in the organization, and also proposed hypotheses based on some arguments against the universal acceptance of the theory.

  • Top management's will was considered most positive by all of the surveyed local businesses, followed by organizational culture, information technology, evaluation and reward, and organizational structure in order. When influences of educational background on factors of success in knowledge management were analyzed, it was found that such background was affecting organizational structure at the significance level of 0.01 and information technology and top management's will at that of 0.05. Those who were more educated responded that success in knowledge management were dependent more on top management's will. but less on organizational structure. Concerning effects of organizational position on factors of success in knowledge management, it was found that such position was influencing top management's will at the significance level of 0.01 and organizational structure at that of 0.05. Those who were higher in organizational position responded that success in knowledge management were dependent less on top management's will, but more on organizational culture, and evaluation and reward. It as generally agreed among the surveyed businesses that knowledge management is a key strategy for business survival in the 21st century. To utilize knowledge management as their strategy, Korea's businesses should change their recognition of such management, reform their organizational culture, have CEOs of strong conviction and will and firmly establish their own information technology. It is necessary to make recognized the importance of knowledge management and culture knowledge management culture. If a person has a strong conviction or will of achieving goals by using intellectual efforts, creative imagination and necessary information, such information can be regarded as a proper knowledge. In conclusion, knowledge enterprises should strengthen their ability of knowledge use by associating their competition strategies with knowledge management. They also need to positively invest in the capture and new development of knowledge and build up infrastructures for knowledge management.

  • One of the major issues in the implementation and maintenance of CIM databases is the sharing and exchange of information among the heterogeneous databases. This paper addresses some architectural aspects for integrating the heterogeneous multi-databases using knowledge-based expert systems. we propose a loosely integrated coupling system between databases and knowledge-based expert systems. Especially we suggest the architectural aspects of such a coupling methodology. we also present the structure and knowledge representation scheme for the proposed knowledge-based expert system. A prototype example is included to illustrate the framework and its mechanism for implementation.

  • Recently, a great deal of corporations have adopted knowledge management system with eagerness to enhance the company competitiveness. However, since the main feature of knowledge management system is not just a simple information system but another entity creating intangible assets tailed "knowledge", we need to develop a new approach to investigating the performance and acceptance of knowledge management systems from a perspective allowing knowledge-sensitive constructs. In this regard, we develop new constructs like knowledge schema and several knowledge circulation-related activities. As a research model, we adopt a famous technology acceptance model or TAM by Davis (1989), and extend it into incorporating knowledge schema. With the statistically valid and usable questionnaire survey data collected from 886 respondents in a big corporation typically using knowledge management system, we induced a robust result empirically, saying that knowledge schema and knowledge circulation activities are valid determinants of performance and acceptance of knowledge management systems.

  • As a knowledge-based economy is emerging, knowledge management (KM) is being rapidly disseminated in both academic circles and the business world. Accordingly, how to effectively manage knowledge is vital to the survival and advance of a company, particularly in project-based industries such as construction. For these reasons, construction companies have adopted IT-based Knowledge management systems (KMS), which is the technology platform and infrastructure that an organization employs to support knowledge management. However, many construction companies have spent resources on developing a KMS that only focus on codification. Furthermore, small and medium-sized companies have limited resources to afford extensive investments. This research addresses the problems found in the current KMS and develops a web-based construction knowledge management portal (CKMP). To achieve these objectives, a case study is conducted and requirements for implementing KM are identified. Based on the identified requirements, this paper builds CKMP using Expert Index (EI), blog, ontology based knowledge retrieval, and wikiblog. The most important functionality of CKMP is their fundamentals to synchronize and support KM process. In order to validate the CKMP, a pilot test with actual users is conducted, and the usability of the system is compared with the current systems. This study is relevant to both the construction industry and academia, as it provides a means of enhancing the performance of KM.
