Graphic health warning on the tobacco product package is a cost-effective tobacco control policy to convey information on harmful effect of tobacco use to health, and it is known not only to motivate smokers to quit but also to deter adolescents from start smoking. In case of Korea, amendments to National Health Promotion Act requiring implementation of graphic health warning had been submitted 13 times, from 2002 to May 2015. In May 2015, the amendment had been approved by the National Assembly and it enters into force on December 23, 2016. This research analyzed the discussions from Health and Welfare Committee of the National Assembly during the implementation of the graphic health warning in order to study decision making process of legislators. Study found that there was a shift from a general opposition on implementing graphic health warning at first to a harsh conflict over relaxation of the regulation once discussing the implementation in earnest. Particularly, while the group supporting the implementation of the graphic health warning or opposing relaxation advocated the amendment with scientific and knowledge-based evidences including the World Health Organization Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the group opposing the adoption of the amendment itself or suggesting relaxation tended to defend their position with empathy on smokers or tobacco industries.
This paper presents an exploratory research on the application of the Technology Acceptance Model(TAM) to the domain of object orientation to investigate the validity of TAM in the perspective of its causal relationships. In the Management Information Systems(MIS) area, TAM has been applied to computer usage behavior as a specific technology adoption model. This paper also suggests the factors that affect the technology acceptance of object orientation in U.S. organizations through a modified TAM. Two major research questions are addressed. First, this research investigates the effect of these external variables on the dependent variable, the actual usage of object orientation in the viewpoint of knowledge interaction between structured methods and object orientation. Second, is TAM valid for the technology acceptance of object orientation in terms of its causal relationships? This study empirically explores the impact of the external variables on the level of actual usage of object orientation via the mediating variables in TAM. A structured questionnaire is administered to Data Processing Management Association(DPMA) professionals in US. The result of this study reveals one important contradictory finding that is not consistent with expectations based on related theory. TAM does not accommodate the technology acceptance of object orientation perhaps because object orientation is a complex and organization-level adoptive technology or the measures for the mediating constructs in TAM may not be appropriate in industry settings.
Metal additive manufacturing (AM) technologies are classified into two groups according to the consolidation mechanisms and densification degrees of the as-built parts. Densified parts are obtained via a single-step process such as powder bed fusion, directed energy deposition, and sheet lamination AM technologies. Conversely, green bodies are consolidated with the aid of binder phases in multi-step processes such as binder jetting and material extrusion AM. Green-body part shapes are sustained by binder phases, which are removed for the debinding process. Chemical and/or thermal debinding processes are usually devised to enhance debinding kinetics. The pathways to final densification of the green parts are sintering and/or molten metal infiltration. With respect to innovation types, the multi-step metal AM process allows conventional powder metallurgy manufacturing to be innovated continuously. Eliminating cost/time-consuming molds, enlarged 3D design freedom, and wide material selectivity create opportunities for the industrial adoption of multi-step AM technologies. In addition, knowledge of powders and powder metallurgy fuel advances of multi-step AM technologies. In the present study, multi-step AM technologies are briefly introduced from the viewpoint of the entire manufacturing lifecycle.

The purposes of this research are presenting a new business model by introducing USN/ZigBee and measuring productivity using BSC(Balanced scorecard), and becoming a cornerstone by presenting a prototype of ServiceScience which is getting more attention from Industrial Engineering and Management. The new business model consists of development of leak current monitoring sensor using USN/ZigBee and the adoption of RCM(Reliability-Centered Maintenance) using knowledge-based system at current distribution. Additionally, for the measurement of this new model's productivity, ESC is used, and the strategic map and measurement indices are produced. The main contributions of this paper are showing a concrete model of ServiceScience and demonstrating this model can be extended to similar areas like are gas, water etc.
Although current RFID technologies can provide wide advantages in food industry area, most food companies do not consider willingly adopting this technology yet. This paper will present how the effective implementation of RFID systems in food industry could be realized. To Measure the importance of RFID systems, this study utilized the BMT(Bench Mark Test) methodology using RFID systems that were composed of tag and reader. After conducting this study, it suggests the effective tag attachment methods on the objects. The results are shown that the excellent tag product is a RFCamp and a fixed reader of Thingmagic Mercury 4 is the best product. Also, a portable reader of Motorola MC9090-RFID is recommend to the highest product. Therefore, this test is useful for selecting the best RFID systems to the food industry area. In addition, this study displays the effective tag attachment method to each bottle that was used to the experiments in food industry. Therefore, this study is contributed to the not only importance in the government IT areas as a growth engine but also the importance for consumer as a right for the knowledge about the food quality.
With the continuous and outstanding development of information technology(IT), human being is coming to the new computing era which is called cloud computing. This era brings lots of huge benefits also at the same time release the resources of IT infrastructure and data boom for man. In the future no longer, most of IT service providers, enterprises, organizations and systems will adopt this new computing model. There are three main deployment models in cloud computing including public cloud, private cloud and hybrid cloud; each one also has its own cons and pros. While implementing any kind of cloud services, customers have to choose one of three above deployment models. Thus, our paper aims to represent a practical framework to help the adopter select which one will be the best suitable deployment model for their requirements by evaluating each model comprehensively. The framework is built by applying the analytic hierarchy process(AHP), namely benefit-cost-opportunity-risk(BCOR) model as a powerful and effective tool to serve the problem. The gained results hope not only to provide useful information for the readers but also to contribute valuable knowledge to this new area. In addition, it might support the practitioners' effective decision making process in case they meet the same issue and have a positive influence on the increase of right decision for the organization.
Research on innovation has a long tradition from various disciplines. MIS research has also been interested in the innovation adoption because IS development and implementation can be regarded as an innovation process. To deal with IT innovations, MIS research adopted existing innovation(diffusion) theories which have been developed on general innovation phenomena. However, the MIS innovation research revealed that there exist some limitations in applying the innovation theories to IT innovations and proposed that research on IT innovations should reflect the unique characteristics of IT. The purpose of this study is twofold; first, to synthesize the past research and propose the uniqueness of IT innovations and second, to survey the Perceptions of managers on If innovations. Three unique characteristics of IT innovations are derived from the past research which are (1) knowledge barriers, (2) increasing returns, (3) organizational decision. Data collected from 68 Korean managers showed that the perceptions of managers support the uniqueness of IT innovations. Some recommendations to facilitate IT innovations are discussed and further research directions are suggested.
Architects are facing increasing risks that result from heightened expectations of benefits and performance when designing green buildings compared to traditional buildings. This study aims to explore the possible risk factors for architects in green building projects in South Korea and assess risk mitigation measures. To attain this goal, 14 risk factors and 12 mitigation measures were determined through an extensive literature review. A questionnaire was administered to architects practicing green building design and criticality index was employed to assess major risk factors and mitigation measures. This study identified 'adoption of new technology and process', 'green building certification results', 'building products and materials', and 'energy saving uncertainty' as the major risk factors of green building projects. Additionally, the questionnaire proposed 'contract indicating each party's role, liability, and limitations clearly', 'utilizing integrated design process', and 'understanding client's goal in green building projects' as the three most effective risk mitigation measures in designing green buildings. There are few studies that focus on architects' perceived risks concerning green building projects; this study contributes to a deeper knowledge and attempts to fill the current literature gap, which would benefit South Korea's green building design practice by aiding in the development of better risk management strategies.
Recently, social and economic environment has been rapidly changed. In particular, the development of IT technology accelerated the introduction of databases, communication networks, information processing and analyzing systems, making the use of such information and communication technology an essential factor for corporate management innovation. This change also affected the accounting areas. The purpose of this study is to document changes in accounting areas due to the adoption of IT technologies in the era of technology and information, to define the required accounting professions in this era, and to present the efficient educational methodologies for training such accounting experts. An accounting expert suitable for the era of technology and information means an accounting profession not only with basic accounting knowledge, competence, independency, reliability, communication skills, and flexible interpersonal skills, but also with IT skills, data utilization and analysis skills, the understanding big data and artificial intelligence, and blockchain-based accounting information systems. In order to educate future accounting experts, the accounting curriculum should be reorganized to strengthen the IT capabilities, and it should provide a wide variety of learning opportunities. It is also important to provide a practical level of education through industry and academic cooperation. Distance learning, web-based learning, discussion-type classes, TBL, PBL, and flipped-learnings will be suitable for accounting education methodologies to foster future accounting experts. This study is meaningful because it can motivate to consider accounting educational system and curriculum to enhance IT capabilities.
