  • The purpose of this thesis is to study on the philosophical analysis model and its methodological application of information systems research evaluation from critical realist perspective. Fist of all, I examine ontological epistemological methodological assertions of critical realism. Because the philosophy of critical realism is an opportunity for information systems study. I examine Dobson and Mutch's critical realist perspective on actors-structure model. I suggest a critical realist actors-praxis-structure model. This model provides the potential for a new approach to social investigations in its provision of an ontology for the analytical separation of structure and agency. Of most importance might be the incorporation of non-humans into the analysis of social interaction and of technology into the elaboration of structures. I also examine Tsoukas's critical realistic meta-theory of management. I suggest a critical realist IS management model. This model elucidate the nature of management and delineate the scope of applicability of various perspectives on management. The causal powers of management reside in the real domain and, taken together, their logics are contradictory, the effects of their contradictory composition are contingent upon prevailing contingencies. I analyze Carlsson's theory of design knowledge. His framework builds on that the aim of IS design science research is to develop practical knowledge for the design and realization of different classes of IS initiatives, where IS are viewed as socio-technical systems and not just IT artefacts. The framework proposes that the output of IS design science research is practical IS design knowledge in the form of field-tested and grounded technological rules. The IS design knowledge is developed through an IS design science research cycle. In conclusion, I think that IS actors-praxis-structure model, meta-theoretical IS management model, and IS design knowledge model according to critical realistic approach are very useful for IS research evaluation. Nevertheless, important problems are left not resolved.

  • The present discussion is concerned with showing the development of natural language processing and how it is related to information and cognition. On the basis of the computeational model,in which humans are viewed as processors of linguistic structures that use stored knowledge-grammar, lexicon and structures representing the encyclopedic information of the world, such programs of natural language understanding as Winograd's SHRDLU came out. However, such pragmatic factors as contexts and the speaker's beliefs, internts, goals and intentions are not easy to process yet.Language, ingormation and cognition are argued to be closely interrelated, and the study of them, the paper argues, can lead to the development of science on general.

  • With increasing competition, the engineering industry is in need of optimization of designs that would lead to minimum cost or weight. Recent developments in Genetic Algorithms (GAs) makes it possible to model and obtain optimal solutions in structural design that can be put to use in industry. The main objective of this paper is to illustrate typical applications of GAs to practical design of structural systems such as steel trusses, towers, bridges, reinforced concrete frames, bridge decks, shells and layout planning of buildings. Hence, instead of details of GA process, which can be found in the reported literature, attention is focussed on the description of the various applications and the practical aspects that are considered in Genetic Modeling. The paper highlights scope and future directions for wider applications of GA based methodologies for optimal design in practice.

  • A structural health monitoring technique for locating impact position in a composite plate is presented in this paper. The method employs a single sensor and spatial focusing properties of time reversal(TR) and inverse filtering(IF). We first examine the spatial focusing efficiency of both approaches at the impact position and its surroundings through impact experiments. The imaging results of impact localization show that the impact location can be accurately estimated in any position of the plate. Compared to existing techniques for locating impact or acoustic emission source, the proposed method has the benefits of using a single sensor and not requiring knowledge of anisotropic material properties and geometry of structures. Furthermore, it does not depend on a particular mode of dispersive Lamb waves that is frequently used in other ultrasonic testing of plate-like structures.

  • Expert systems which represent the appllication of artificial intelligence research are now nearly 20 years old. It is said that the present technology together with ever- increasing computing applicability of Combined Hypertext-Expert System Techniques to the design of reinforced concrete structures. Hypertext systems allow the user to control the system while expert systems alone don't give the user any control over the system. Therefore the combination of these two techniques, offered by KnowledgePro, may bring us closer to real user-expert communication. The system developed in this work offers information on design in general by reorganizing ACI Manual 318-89, detailed stress analysis and cross sectional design of simple PC/RC beams and optimum design of reinforced concrete building frames. The system also includes the author's earlier work on guidance to identify types of cracks in concrete. It is also includes the author's earlier work on guidance to identify types of cracks in concrete. It is also demonstrated how well and conveniently existing programs can be used by reorganizing the user manuals in the context of hypertext.

  • Comparison of behaviour of shear connections by means of shear-connection strips (perfobond and comb-shaped strips) and headed studs under static and repeated loading, possible failure modes of concrete dowels and ways of the quantitative differentiation of some failure modes are described in the paper. The article presents a review of knowledge resulting from the analysis of shear-connection effects based on tests of perfobond and comb-shaped strips carried out in the laboratories of the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Technical University of Kosice (TU of Kosice) in Slovakia and their comparison with results obtained by other authors.

  • This paper describes an automated computer-aided engineering (CAE) system for three-dimensional structures. An automatic finite element mesh-generation technique, which is based on fuzzy knowledge processing and computational geometry techniques, is incorporated into the system, together with a commercial FE analysis code, and a commercial solid modeler. The system allows a geometry model of interest to be automatically converted to different FE models, depending on the physical phenomena of the structures to be analyzed, i.e., electrostatic analysis, stress analysis, modal analysis, and so on. Also, with the aid of multilayer neural networks, the present system allows us to obtain automatically a design window in which a number of satisfactory design solutions exist in a multi-dimensional design parameter space. The developed CAE system is successfully applied to evaluate an electrostatic micromachines.

  • During a last decade, there have been considerable reports of novel thread-like structures (NTSs) in animals. The NTSs are thought to be a part of the Bonghan Ducts (BHD) system, which is described as a newly-discovered circulatory system. Networks of BHD system are completely different from blood vessels or lymphatic system in animal. To demonstrate intravascular NTSs, it is necessary to develop the effective method to observe the NTSs morphology. We considered several methods to study morphologically with NTSs. There are not explaining such structure in the current knowledge of anatomy and physiology. But we found very effective and easy method to study NTSs and BHD by agar-mediated embedding method.

  • A structural health monitoring (SHM) technique for locating impact position in a composite plate is presented in this paper. The technique employs a single sensor and spatial focusing properties of time reversal (TR) and inverse filtering (IF). We first examine the focusing effect of back-propagated signal at the impact position and its surroundings through simulation. Impact experiments are then carried out and the localization images are found using the TR and IF signal processing, respectively. Both techniques provide accurate impact location results. Compared to existing techniques for locating impact or acoustic emission source, the proposed methods have the benefits of using a single sensor and not requiring knowledge of material properties and geometry of structures. Furthermore, it does not depend on a particular mode of dispersive Lamb waves that is frequently used in the SHM of plate-like structures.
