Assessment of public knowledge, perception, and acceptance of nuclear power in Bangladesh

  • Public perception plays a crucial role in the successful completion of a nuclear power project. As a newcomer country to nuclear power, there are lots of misconceptions among the Bangladeshi people about nuclear energy. Consequently, it is crucial to minimize all the doubts among mass people and build up their positive outlook toward nuclear power. This demands a comprehensive survey to figure out the public opinion, concerns, false impressions, and knowledge gap regarding nuclear power. In the present study, these issues were addressed by a survey that was responded to by 661 persons for the 24 survey questions. The questions were categorized based on information, knowledge, faith, benefit, awareness, and technology. Feedback and responders' basic demographic and socioeconomic information were collected from various locations in Bangladesh through online and in-person surveys. The responses were analyzed in both statistical and descriptive ways. Some of the feedback was found to vary with age, sex, and education level while others were quite independent of these parameters. It is found that socioeconomic development and energy security can be achieved by the inclusion of nuclear energy in the power system master plan of the country. However, huge knowledge gaps and misconceptions were found among the public regarding nuclear energy. As per feedback, political instability and corruption may affect the national nuclear power project in Bangladesh. Low faith in the existing rules & regulations for nuclear power programs was also observed. The result of this study will be handy to develop the communication and public awareness strategy for a successful nuclear power project in Bangladesh.

제주지역 고등학생의 체형만족도에 따른 영양지식, 식습관 및 체중조절 실태 분석 (Body Shape Satisfaction, Nutrition Knowledge, Dietary Habits, and Weight Control Attitude of Korean High School Students)

  • The study analyzed the body shape perception, weight control attitude, nutrition knowledge, and dietary habits of 529 high school students in Jeju surveyed from January 14-18, 2008 according to students' body shape satisfaction, with the aim of providing basic nutritional education data to aid in appropriate weight control for high school students. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, T-test, Chi-square test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficients, using the SPSS Win 12.0 program. The body mass index (BMI) of subjects was in the normal range. With regard to weight distribution, 59.4% of subjects showed normal weight and girls were significantly more underweight than boys. More girls considered themselves to be fatter than boys and tended to be increasingly dissatisfied with their body shape. Both boys and girls were more interested in weight control for obesity and were significantly less satisfied with their body shape. Efforts at weight control and reduction had occurred significantly more often for girls than for boys. Dietary attitude scores were significantly higher in girls than boys. BMI positively correlated to weight control concern and nutrition knowledge positively correlated to dietary attitude. BMI negatively correlated to the body shape satisfaction, which in turn negatively correlated to food ingestion disorders. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a systematic nutrition educational program that can induce changes in dietary behavior and increase accurate perception and satisfaction of body shape.

임상실습 초기와 종료 후의 임상실습에 대안 간호학생의 인식 변화 (Changes in Student Nurses' Perception between Initial and Final Clinical Practice)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore perception of clinical experience between the initial and final practice and to explore changes in the perception of clinical experience. Method: The study used a Q-method to measure perception of clinical practice. Thirty-six statements made up the finalized Q-sample. The P sample used thirty three nursing college students from K university. The initial collection was done in the first semester of their junior year and second collection was done in the last semester of their senior year. The Q-sorts by each student were coded and analysed with the Quanl PC program. Result: Many students classified as having the perception type 'alienation of ideal and reality' or 'perception of limitation of ability' in the initial clinical practice changed to the type, 'active participation' by the final clinical practice. Further, in the initial clinical practice, part of 'active participation' and 'perception of limitation of ability' changed to 'alienation of ideal and reality'. Conclusion: This study shows that perception of their clinical practice by student nurses changed in a positive direction through clinical experience and that this fact was related to the level of satisfaction with nursing. The knowledge and understanding obtained in this research provide insights for nursing faculty and students involved in nursing education.

응급실 간호사의 결핵감염관리에 대한 인식과 수행 (Emergency Nurses' Perception and Performance of Tuberculosis Infection Control Measures)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the perception and performance of tuberculosis infection control measures among emergency department nurses. Methods: A structured questionnaire was administered to a convenience sample of 227 emergency department nurses from 20 hospitals in B City. Results: The mean perception score was 4.52 out of a possible 5, and the mean performance score was 3.31 out of a possible 5. There were big differences between the perception and performance score on the items regarding wearing a gown or mask, while there were small differences on the items regarding dealing with patients' articles or medication. Conclusion: Emergency nurses showed high perception and low performance score on the items related to facilities and regulation such as visitation restriction or patient isolation. There was a positive correlation between perception and performance score. Conclusion: For emergency nurses, perception is higher than performance of tuberculosis infection control measures. The findings indicate the importance of providing continuing education for emergency nurse professionals seeking to update and increase their knowledge and to develop evidence-based nursing protocols on tuberculosis infection control in emergency department.

Dietary safety management competency for the sustainable health management of adolescents

  • Purpose: The incidence of chronic diseases is increasing and the age of onset is decreasing in South Korea. Healthy eating habits to prevent chronic diseases are established in adolescence. This study verified the identified factors and dynamics that affect diet self-assessment for sustainable adolescent health and the prevention of chronic diseases. Methods: Data were collected from 492 middle and high school students in South Korea from June to July 2018, and the participants answered a questionnaire on dietary safety management competency for sustainable health. Results: The healthy dietary self-assessment scores of overweight/obese adolescents and adolescents who perceived their health as normal were significantly lower than those of other groups. Factor analysis verified the validity of the items that comprised each study area before a multiple regression analysis was used to investigate the factors affecting healthy dietary self-assessment. Sweet and salty diets, anxiety, food and nutrition knowledge, weight management knowledge, stress management, exercise, basic eating habits, and healthy eating habits significantly affected healthy dietary assessment among adolescents. A higher perception of one's health indicated a higher healthy dietary self-assessment, dietary safety knowledge, and health management practice scores (p < 0.01). Factors like healthy dietary self-assessment, food and nutrition knowledge, and weight management knowledge appear to have a significant correlation with other identified factors, except overeating. The adolescents' awareness, knowledge, and dietary safety practices influenced healthy dietary self-assessment, which can prevent chronic diseases and achieve sustainable health. Conclusion: This study illustrated how the adolescents' awareness, knowledge, and practices of dietary safety influenced their healthy diet self-assessment. The results indicate that diet-based health management competency education relative to the adolescents' self-perception and weight levels should be implemented.

『규합총서』 「봉임측」에 나타난 조선후기 사대부 여성의 향문화(香文化)와 인식 (Noble Women's Culture and Perception of Incense and Herbs in the Late Joseon Dynasty based on 『Gyuhap Chongseo』, 「BongimCheok」)

  • 본 논문은 조선시대 사대부 여성이 향에 대해 어떻게 인식하였는지에 대해 『규합총서(閨閤叢書)』를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 『규합총서』는 이빙허각(李憑虛閣, 1759~1824년)이 편찬한 유서(類書)로, 사대부 가정살림운영에 필요한 지식으로 여긴 내용들을 수록하고 있다. 본고는 「봉임측」을 중심으로 향에 관련된 다양한 내용을 분석하여 이빙허각이 향에 대해 가진 실용적이고 현실적인 인식을 밝혀냈다. 이빙허각에게 향은 단순한 미용적 요소와 완물의 기능을 넘어서 건강과 위생, 생활지식에 이르는 다양한 전통지식의 가정생활 운영에 필수적인 도구로 여겨졌음을 확인할 수 있다. 『규합총서』는 꾸준히 필사되고 전래된 점으로 미루어 사대부 여성들로부터 많은 공감을 얻은 것으로 생각된다. 오늘날 사대부 여성이 남긴 기록이 많이 전하지 않아 『규합총서』를 저술한 이빙허각의 시각을 중심으로 향문화와 인식을 살펴보았다. 이빙허각은 향이 대중적인 물품이 아니었음에도 향에 대한 구체적인 지식과 그 활용법을 제공하였다. 이는 당시 여성의 지식과 문화 소양을 넓히고, 실용적인 지식을 통한 삶의 질 향상에 기여하고자 하였던 이빙허각의 의지를 반영한다. 본고는 이빙허각이 향을 가정생활 운영에 필요한 중요한 물품으로 인식하였음을 규명하였다. 이는 당시 사대부 여성이 사회와 가정 내에서 지식과 실용적인 활동을 통해 적극적으로 기여하고자 한 모습을 보여주는 사례로 해석할 수 있다. 향이 미용과 생활지식 등 다양한 전통지식 분야에서 실질적인 목적을 가진 물품으로 활용되었던 사례를 통하여 조선시대 사대부 여성의 향에 대한 인식과 그 활용법을 종합적으로 이해할 수 있다.

피드백을 고려한 포트폴리오 평가를 적용한 수업이 초등학생의 과학 지식의 탐구능력, 인식에 미치는 효과 (The Effects of Lessons adopting Portfolio Assessment regarding Feedback on Elemantary School Student's Scientific Knowledge, Inquiry Ability, and their Perception)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 피드백을 고려한 포트폴리오 평가를 적용한 수업이 초등학교 학생들의 과학 지식, 탐구 능력, 포트폴리오 평가에 대한 자기 인식에 미치는 영향을 알아보는 것이다. 이 연구를 위하여 시근교에 위치한 초등학교 5학년 2반을 선정하였다. 한반은 실험반으로 피드백을 고려한 포트폴리오 평가를 적용한 수업을 실시하였으며, 다른 반은 비교반으로 피드백을 고려하지 않은 포트폴리오 평가를 적용한 수업을 실시하였다. 연구자가 직접 이 반을 모두 가르쳤다. 연구 결과, 과학 지식에서는 실험반과 비교반이 통계적으로 차이가 있었다. 과학 지식의 하위 요소들을 분석한 결과, 피드백의 효과는 기억과 이해 영역에서 긍정적이었으나, 적용 영역에서는 효과적이지 못하였다. 탐구 영역에서도 효과가 나타나지 않았다. 포트폴리오 평가에 대한 인식을 알아본 문항에서는 실험반 학생들이 수업의 효과에 대한 인식과 과학에 대한 태도의 인식에서 비교반보다 더 긍정적으로 반응하였다. 그러나 비교반 학생들은 자신의 포트폴리오 작품에 대한 인식과 피드백의 필요성에 대한 인식이 실험반보다 더 긍정적이었다.

BARRIER TO ELECTRONIC KNOWLEDGE REPOSITORY SUCCESS: INFORMATION OVERLOAD AND CONTRIBUTION OVERLOAD

  • In the present competitive organizational environment more organizations are implementing knowledge management initiatives to gain strategic advantage. One such initiative is that of implementing electronic knowledge repositories (EKR) which often leads to a rapid increase in the quantity of information employees have to process daily; raising concerns of employees being overloaded. This is especially true for current EKRs using distributive technology, enabling customizable individual workspaces which can result in loose knowledge structures. This paper identifies a new type of information overload (IO), extending the concept as occurring in both knowledge seekers and contributors and uses cognitive dissonance theory to provide evidence that IO can change employees' perception of EKR usage. This research paper provides the first empirical evidence that overload has no sufficient affect on EKR continuance intention directly, but has significant negative affect on the two main success measures; perceived usefulness and satisfaction of the system.

위험 지각에 따른 지식공유: 이타적인 행동인가, 속셈이 있는 행동인가? (Knowledge sharing under perceived risk: Altruistic or goal-oriented motives?)

  • This study examined the effect of perceived risk, an under-explored area in the knowledge sharing literature. We proposed that employee perceptions of risk relate positively with their knowledge sharing behaviors (donating and collecting), and examined the mediating role of impression management strategies in the hypothesized relationships. We also explored the moderating effect of leader-member exchange (LMX) in the relationship between perceived risk and impression management strategies. Valid and reliable self-report and supervisory evaluation measures were collected from a sample of 251 railroad employees in safety-sensitive positions. The results indicate that perceived risk was not significantly associated with knowledge sharing, but rather the risk perception impacts were indirect through impression management strategies such as exemplification and supplication. The study also found that LMX has no moderating effect on the perceived risk and impression management strategies. In discussing these results, we present significant insights in terms of subjective risk judgment as a potential mechanism which can encourage organizational politics.

청소년의 환경문제에 대한 지식 및 인식이 환경친화적 행동에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Knowledge and Perception of Environmental Problems on Pro-environmental Behavior of Youth)

  • 본 연구는 청소년의 환경친화적 행동과 배경변인인 인구사회학적변인, 환경교육변인과 환경문제에 대한 지식과 인식의 관계를 밝혀, 청소년에게 가장 많은 영향을 주는 학교교육에서의 환경교육방향을 제공하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하고자 한다. 이를 위해 서울, 경기도의 중 고등학생 654명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였고, 기술통계방법, 위계적 회귀분석을 적용하여 자료를 분석하였다. 위계적 회귀분석 결과 환경친화적 행동에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 변인은 환경교육 필요성, 환경정보 습득경로, 환경오염에 대한 인식, 성별, 학년, 용돈수준으로 나타났다. 이들 변인들은 환경친화적 행동의 총분산을 20.5% 설명하고 있는데 환경 교육 관련변인군은 7.2%, 인구사회학적변인군은 6.8%, 환경문제 인식변인군은 5.4%, 환경에 대한 지식변인군은 1.1% 환경친화적 행동의 분산을 설명하는 것으로 나타났다. 환경교육의 필요성을 크게 인식할수록, 환경정보를 얻는 경로가 대중매체보다 친구와 환경단체인 경우, 대기 오염과 자원 및 에너지고갈에 대한 인식의 수준이 높을수록, 여학생보다는 남학생이, 용돈수준이 낮을수록, 환경친화적 행동을 많이 보였다. 환경에 대한 지식은 환경친화적 행동에 미치는 영향이 미미한 반면, 환경교육관련 변인과 환경문제에 대한 인식은 환경친화적 행동에 영향을 미치므로 이론위주의 환경교육보다는 청소년 스스로 경험을 통해 터득할 수 있도록 실생활과 연관성이 있는 실천적인 방법을 적용하여 환경교육을 실시하는 것이 요구된다.
