Hydrogen and Carbon Black Production by Pyrolysis of Natural Gas (천연가스 열분해에 의한 수소 및 카본 생산)

  • The pyrolysis for production of hydrogen and high quality carbon black from natural gas were studied. The reactivities in tubular reactor and FVR(free volume reactor) for the methane pyrolysis were compared, in order to prevent the formation of undesirable carbon product such as pyrocarbon, the FVR was designed. The hydrogen yield and the formation of carbon black from methane pyrolysis in this reactor were investigated at temperature range between 1443 and 1576K. From the result of TEM (transmission electron microscopy) analysis, it was confirmed that the CFC(catalytic filamentous carbon) was formed without pyrocarbon.

Autonomous Tracking Control of Intelligent Vehicle using GPS Information (GPS 정보를 이용한 지능형 차량의 자율 경로추적 제어)

  • In the development of intelligent vehicles, path tracking of unmanned vehicle is a basis of autonomous driving and automatic navigation. It is very important to find the exact position of a vehicle for the path tracking, and it is possible to get the position information from GPS. However the information of GPS is not the current position but the past position because a vehicle is moving and GPS has a time delay. In this paper, therefore, the moving distance of a vehicle is estimated using a direction sensor and a velocity sensor to compensate the position error of GPS. In the steering control, optimal fuzzy rules for the path tracking can be found through the simulation of Simulink. Real driving experiments show the fuzzy rules are good for the steering control and the position error of GPS is well compensated by the proposed estimation method.

Fatigue CAE Analysis of a Rebar Bending Machine Roller (철근 밴딩기 롤러의 피로파괴 CAE 해석)

  • The rebar factory production process involves the repetitive bending of rebars. Therefore, the fatigue failure of the rebar bending machine needs to be considered. In this paper, fatigue analysis of the rebar machine was performed using the commercial software DAFUL, which is based on MFBD (Multi Flexible Body Dynamics). The rotating roller, fixing roller and rebar were modeled by the finite element method. The rebar bending process is simulated and the mechanical stresses on the rollers are calculated. Structural analysis of the rebar bending roller was performed using the maximum bending angle of $180^{\circ}$ and maximum processing rebar diameter of ${\Phi}19mm$. Then, for fatigue analysis, the S-N curve of STD-11 was. The fatigue life of rollers is estimated by modified Goodman diagram. The fatigue life range of the rotating roller is $2.99961{\times}10^5{\sim}1{\times}10^8$ while that of the fixed roller is $2.53142{\times}10^5{\sim}1{\times}10^8$. STD-11 has an infinite life cycle after $1{\times}10^8$. Therefore, the rollers of the rebar bending machine may be expected to suffer fatigue failure. Thus, we performed a parameter study of fatigue life according to various axial radii of the fixed roller and rotating roller, and redesign of the rebar bending machine. Consequently, the axial radius of the fixed roller and rotating roller was found to be 35~37.5mm and 30~35mm, respectively, and an infinite life cycle was confirmed at these.

Effect of Types of Silane Coupling Agents on the Properties of Waterborne Polyurethane (실란커플링제 종류 변화가 수분산 폴리우레탄의 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • NCO terminated polyurethane prepolymers were synthesized from isophorone diisocyanate(IPDI), poly (tetramethylene glycol)(PTMG) and dimethylol propionic acid(DMPA). Subsequently, waterborne polyurethanes were prepared by capping the NCO groups of polyurethane prepolymers with different types of silane coupling agents, such as methyltrimethoxysilane(MTMS), glycidoxypropyl trimethoxysilane(GPTMS), methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) and aminopropyl triethoxysilane(APS). The average particle size of the waterborne polyurethane solutions was increased by adding silane coupling agents. Also, the coating films prepared from GPTMS, MPTMS and APS, exhibited better pencil hardness than those from pure waterborne polyurethane. On the other hand, the coating films from MTMS did not show an improved pencil hardness than those from pure waterborne polyurethane.

A Numerical study on Spring-back Phenomenon of a Rebar for Manufacture (철근 공장가공화를 위한 철근 스프링 백에 대한 수치적 연구)

  • These days, workers in a construction site conduct a rebar bending process with a machine. This bending process has some problems such as long processing time and bad quality of the rebar. In order to manufacture a rebar having precision and machinability, we should study on Spring-back phenomenon. This phenomenon affects a shape of rebar after unloading due to restoration ability of material and it is influenced by bending angle, bending radius and a rebar diameter. The change of spring-back ratio according to the change of the parameters are analyzed by FEM. Consequently, Spring-back increases around $0.1^{\circ}$ as bending angle increases $10^{\circ}$. and it also increases around $0.6^{\circ}$ as diameter of rebar increases from ${\varphi}$ 10mm to ${\varphi}$ 16mm. while we can confirm that it decreases around $0.2^{\circ}$ as bending angle increases $10^{\circ}$.

  • In order to build a ship, painting on ship cargo tank is one of the most dangerous parts as it involves working in high altitudes and a closed ship cargo tank. Therefore, researchers have been developing devices that will enable mobile robots to operate on vertical walls. The wall-climbing robots have been widely used to attach on the wall such as suction types. These types can be utilized regardless of the wall material. However, it is required to adhere and control the suction cups. To moderate this drawbacks, this paper proposes an automatic painting robot that uses a permanent magnet mobile robot. Using the magnetic characteristics, this robot can move on the boat vertically and horizontally even while hanging on the ceiling of the ship cargo tank. Also, we made a prototype to test adhesive force of the permanent magnet wheel and mobile robot as well as the towing capacity and auto-piloting ability.

A Study on Direct Cooling and Washing Machine for Energy Saving-Type Dyeing Machine (에너지 절감형 염색기용 직접냉각수세장치에 대한 연구)

  • Due to increase in production of the domestic textile industry, energy consumption in textile industry is still growing. Traditional dyeing machine has high temperature and pressure. Accordingly, it uses an indirect cooling system that utilize a heat exchanger to cool after the dyeing. However, this indirect cooling system consumes a great deal of water, takes prolonged periods of time to process and, most importantly, because of the condensing of the dye at the cooling stage requires further energy in reduction cleaning and washing process. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a direct cooling washing machine that replaces the traditional indirect cooling system to provide coolant into the dyeing machine. The newly proposed direct cooling washing machine will still use parts of the traditional dying but will be able to skip the cooling as well as the reduction cleaning and washing process, resulting in less processing time and lower energy consumption. Also, we made a prototype. The prototype was applied to dyeing machine to test the direct cooling washing machine's ability and dyeing property. Additionally, we compared indirect cooling washing machine with direct cooling washing machine about ability, material and energy saving assessment.
