Application of Matched Asymptotic Expansion for Designing a Leading Edge of Super-cavitating Foil

  • The leading edge of a low-drag super-cavitating foil has been made to be thick enough by using a point drag which is supposed to be a linear model of the Kirchhoff lamina. In the present paper, the relation between the point drag and the Kirchhoff lamina is made clear by analyzing the cavity drag of both models and the leading edge radius of the point drag model and the lamina thickness of Kirchhoff\`s profile K. The matched asymptotic expansion is effectively made use of in designing a practical super-cavitating fool which is not only of low drag but also structurally sound. Also it has a distinct leading edge cavity separation point. The cavity foil shapes of trans-cavitating propeller blade sections designed by present method are shown.

Geometrically exact initially curved Kirchhoff's planar elasto-plastic beam

  • In this paper we present geometrically exact Kirchhoff's initially curved planar beam model. The theoretical formulation of the proposed model is based upon Reissner's geometrically exact beam formulation presented in classical works as a starting point, but with imposed Kirchhoff's constraint in the rotated strain measure. Such constraint imposes that shear deformation becomes negligible, and as a result, curvature depends on the second derivative of displacements. The constitutive law is plasticity with linear hardening, defined separately for axial and bending response. We construct discrete approximation by using Hermite's polynomials, for both position vector and displacements, and present the finite element arrays and details of numerical implementation. Several numerical examples are presented in order to illustrate an excellent performance of the proposed beam model.

  • In this proposed work new finite element model for multi-delaminated plates is proposed. In the current analysis procedures of multi-delaminated plates, plate element based on Mindlin plate theory is used in order to obtain accurate results of out-of-plane displacement of thick plate. And for delaminated region, plate element based on Kirchhoff plate theory is considered. To satisfy the displacement continuity conditions, displacement vector based on Kirchhoff theory is transformed to displacement of transition element. The numerical results show that the effect of delaminations on the modal parameters of delaminated composites plates is dependent not only on the size, the location and the number of the delaminations but also on the mode number and boundary conditions. Kirchhoff based model have higher natural frequency than Mindlin based model and natural frequency of the presented model is closed to Mindlin based model.

  • 구조물의 안전진단을 위한 비파괴 검사 분야에 사용되는 지표레이다 자료를 정밀하게 영상화시켜줄 수 있는 3 차원 구조보정기법을 살펴보았다. 이 연구에서는 탄성파 자료처리를 위해 개발된 3차원 Kirchhoff 중합전 심도구조보정기법을 이용하여 구조물 안전진단시 중요대상체인 콘크리트 내의 철근, 균열 등을 3차원적으로 영상화시켰다. 철근과 공동대상체가 동시에 존재하는 경우 물성차이의 구분이 가능토록 영상화되었고, 여러 가지 크기의 철근이 존재하는 경우 XX배열법에 의한 영상이 YY배열법보다 더 높은 분해능을 보여주었다. 따라서 보다 정밀한 정보를 얻기 위해서는 일반적인 YY배열 외에 XX배열법의 영상화 결과를 연계하여 분석하는 것이 필요하다. 마지막으로 주향이 교차하는 두 개의 철근이 다른 심도에 존재하는 경우에는 상부의 철근은 정확하게 영상화되나 철근의 높은 전도도로 인하여 하부의 철근은 실제크기보다 좀 더 크게 영상화되는 한계를 보여주었다.

  • The acoustic target strength (TS) of submarine is associated with its active detection, positioning and classification. That is, the survivability of submarine depends on its target strength. So it should be managed with all possible means. An anechoic coating to existing submarine or changing of curvature can be considered as major measures to reduce the TS of submarine. It is mainly based on the prediction of its TS. Under this circumstances, a study on the more accurate numerical methods becomes big topic for submarine design. In this paper, Kirchhoff approximation method was adopted as a numerical tool for the physical optics region. Secondly, the scaled models of submarine were built and tested in order to verify its performance. Through the comparison, it was found out that the Kirchhoff approximation method could be good design tool for the prediction of TS of submarine.

  • In this paper, we study uniform exponential stabilization of the vibrations of the Kirchhoff type wave equation with Balakrishnan-Taylor damping and acoustic boundary in a bounded domain in $R^n$. To stabilize the systems, we incorporate separately, the passive viscous damping in the model as like Kang[14]. Energy decay rates are obtained by the uniform exponential stability of solutions by using multiplier technique.

거친 표면 레이다 산란 해석을 위한 개선된 Kirchhoff 근사 방법 (An improved kirchhoff approximation for radar scattering from rough surfaces)

  • A new Kirchhoff approximation(KA) method was proposed for microwave scttering from randomly rough surfaces. Using the spectral representation of delta function and its sifting theorem, a new KA was formulated directly without any further approximation, and this formulated was used to compute exact backscttering coefficients. The validity of the KA was verified by a numerical method, and this new KA technique was used to evaluate the existing approximated KkA methods; i.t., the zeroth-order and the first-order approximated physical optics(PO) models. It was shown that the first-order approximated PO model has small error than the zeroth-order approximated PO model at low incidence angles and the opposite happens at higher incidence angles. This new KA model can be used to compute exact scattering coefficients in the validity regions of KA and to evaluate other theoretical and numerical models for scattering from randomly rough surfaces.

원주형 기공에 대한 초음파 산란 해석 (Analysis of Ultrasonic Scattering from Side-drilled Holes)

  • 원주형 기공(SDH: side-drilled hole)의 초음파 산란장 해석을 두 가지 방법으로 수행하였다. 근사해석법인 Kirchhoff 근사법과 변수분리에 의한 엄밀해법으로 구한 원거리 산란진폭 식을 제시하고 시간영역에서 그 결과를 서로 비교하였다. 수직횡파(SV)의 SDH 입사를 고려하였으며, 원거리 산란 진폭을 주파수와 시간영역에서 각각 구하였다. 엄밀해법은 직접 산란파뿐만 아니라 잠행성 파를 나타내었으며, Kirchhoff 근사법은 잠행성 파를 예측하지 못하는 젓을 제외하고 엄밀해의 결과와 잘 일치하였다. 수침, 펄스-에코 시험법에서 SDH의 수신 신호 응답을 예측할 수 있는 두 가지 측정모델을 소개하였고, 수직 횡파가 45도로 입사할 때 지름 1mm SDH의 수신신호를 계산하고 그 결과를 실험과 비교하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 체적형 결함과 균열형 결함에 대한초음파산란 현상을 모델링하기 위한 두가지 이론을 설명하였다. 동탄성 Kirchhoff 근사 (EKA)와 기하학적 회절이론 (GTD)이 각각 원주형 기공과 반무한 균열에 적용되었다. 이 두 이론은 고주파수 근사법으로 알려져 있다. 모델 결함들에 평면파가 입사하는 경우의 2차원 동탄성 산란 문제를 고려하였으며 산란장을 반사계수와 회절계수의 항으로 구하였다. 원거리에서 산란파의 변위에 대한 입사파 변위의 비를 관찰 방향의 함수로 구했으며 그 결과를 경계요소법과 비교하였다.
