UX Design Proposal for Educational Software Service Middle-aged and Elderly (중·고령층 키오스크 교육용 소프트웨어 서비스를 위한 UX 디자인)

  • The transition into a digital society has been accelerated in many aspects of our everyday social activities, and thereby, the unmanned order and payment system via kiosk has already has been seen commonly throughout the social community. Yet, the majority of the mid-to-elderly population have been experiencing difficulties utilizing this newly emerged unmanned system, resulting in the emergence of digital alienation among those age groups. In regard to this phenomenon, this study is intended to explore ways to improve the digital divide concerning the issues related to the unmanned order payment kiosks. In this process, the study involved close examination of various research perspectives on improving the digital divide and proceeded with the focus on both empirical and literature research on providing education on kiosk utilization. In addition, the study identified the limitations to the current kiosk education and proposed improved kiosk-education software UX that may help curtail the limitations. Through this, one was able to identify areas in which the efficacy of the education applied in kiosk usage and derived new measures that could improve the system. One anticipates having the results of this study put to use as research materials on educational service development to expand the opportunities of kiosk education for those mid-to-elderly age groups who experience a day-to-day digital alienation.

Intelligent Control System for Universal Kiosk (가변형 키오스크를 위한 지능제어 시스템 설계)

  • Variable mechanism perceives height and location of the person who use Kiosk system then control the machine to proper height and location. In this paper, we propose ADALINE-Fuzzy logic system control method for control height and direction of the variable kiosk. To prove usefulness of proposed system, we performed Widrow-Hoff delta rule experiment and carried out examination and comparison of control performance about heigh and direction of the person using kiosk system.

  • Bluetooth technology has been applied to mobile device, personal computers, peripherals, information and variety of consumer electronics. Not also the original Bluetooth technology must be especially focused in the application of mobile phone but applications such as wireless headsets and dial-up networking may be increased. However Bluetooth is so only focused to wireless headset application that the various software applications are presently ignored. In this paper, we propose the framework design to implement Bluetooth profile for kiosk servers, which can be used in Theater, train station, bank, government and public offices. Then mobile devices capable of processing user's input/output can be remotely accessed in these servers by using Bluetooth module and AP, although Kiosk servers are only processed user input data.

  • As the cconvenience economy of food culture becomes more widespread and the consumption trends for easy and convenient meals grew, every food company is making their various efforts to provide better service. Along with this change, various methods have been allowed for quick and easy ordering. Especially, the introduction of kiosk systems with various merits such as reduction of queues for cashes, saving labor costs, and smoothness of business processes have been actively growing recently. If kiosk system provides not only order but also systematic contents and interface design considering differentiated identity from other companies, brand image enhancement and customer service strategy would be available as well. A kiosk GUI design for effective interactions that provides more usability and satisfaction to users by analyzing the structure and contents of kiosks in fast food stores and GUI designs and investigating usage patterns and design preferences of kiosks through user surveys.

  • Kiosk is an unmanned information system arranged in public places or commercial spaces so that a user may utilize information conveniently. Unlike a personal computer, it targets varied users' brackets, so we have to consider a user's characteristic in designing Kiosk Interface. However, in reality, the Kiosks of public places like subway stations are of Interface Design without considering users and become almost useless with serviceability falling. In this study, we attempt to point out such problems and suggest the concept as to the Interface Design in the public places for a more positive promotion method. For this purpose, we are about to look into the concept of Tangible Interaction and Interspace and the recreation experienced in the process of interaction between a human and a computer and study the sportive Kiosk Interface Design in the Interspace using the principle of the Tangible Interaction. For the conceptual Model in this study, we referred to ARTCOM(ART+COM) Project.

Continuance Use Intention of Kiosk Services: The Mediating Role of Satisfaction (외식업체 키오스크의 지속 이용 의도에 대한 연구: 만족도의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • In the food market, kiosks are rapidly expanding. The kiosk improves the in-store consumer experience and economic prosperity of businesses. This research explores the continuance use intention of kiosks via a post-acceptance model with four antecedent variables: perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, confirmation, and satisfaction. An online survey was conducted with 420 senior consumers, aged 50-70, who have experienced kiosk services. This study used SPSS 25.0 for descriptive analysis and Amos 23.0 for confirmatory factor anlysis, structural equation analysis, and mediate the effect of the bootstrapping method. The following results were obtained. First, perceived usefulness and confirmation significantly influenced satisfaction with kiosks. Second, perceived usefulness and satisfaction significantly influenced continuance use intention. Third, satisfaction mediated the relationship between perceived usefulness and continuance use intention. Fourth, satisfaction mediated the relationship between confirmation and continuance use intention. These findings enhanced the understanding of seniors' attitude and response to kiosk services.

A study on the increase of kiosk user experience in Non-face-to-face Era for the Elderly -Focused on the McDonald Kiosk- (비대면 시대 고령자의 키오스크 사용자 경험 증대 연구 -맥도날드 키오스크 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to increase the experience of using kiosks for elderly in the non-face-to-face age. Through prior research and literature research, feature of kiosks and characteristic of elderly user were identified, and improvement were suggested through Ethnography and in-depth interviews. The research method was conducted for 13 days from April 4 to 16, 2021 for 11 senior citizens in their 60s or older living in Incheon. A total of 11 people were interviewed by adding 3 people who had experience in using kiosks. As a result of the experiment, interfaces and psychological factors were derived with paint points in the process of use of the elderly, and the five improvement plan was proposed by combining them. This study is expected to serve as a source for research on the experience of elderly kiosk users or kiosk interface design.

Predicting Kiosk Discontinuance (키오스크 이용 중단 의도에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • This study explores the discountinued use intention of kiosk, applying integration model with technology acceptance and theory of planned behavior. An online survey was conducted with 420 senior consumers aged 50-70. This research used SPSS 25.0 for descriptive, t-test, correlation, and regression analysis. Theses results are as follows. First, perceived usefulness, perceived control and satisfaction were higher among male group than female group. Second, perceived usefulness, affective inertia and behavior inertia were significantly influenced the discountined use intention of kiosk in male group. Third, perceived control, behavior inertia and cognitive inertia were significantly influenced the discountined use intention of kiosk in female group. These results enhance understanding of seniors' attitude and negative response to kiosk.

Users' Satisfaction Analysis of Kiosk Contents in the Bus Stop

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the user satisfaction of kiosk contents installed at bus stops in Seoul. A total of 400 kiosks, which are touch-based traffic information systems, are installed and operated, providing contents such as bus routes, marginal area, seoul tourism, life information, angel donation, transportation cards, magnifier and boarding requests. The study results showed that the user satisfaction scores of bus routes and transportation cards were high, but it was necessary to improve other contents. The results of this study will be used as basic data to propose user experience(UX) of public service design. We will also use it as content guidelines for public information kiosks to be developed in the future.

  • 본 논문은 공용부 기반 건강관리 Kiosk 개발을 통한 생체정보 및 건강 설문을 수집하여 Wellness Index 및 Expert 판정시스템을 통해 건강상태를 판정하고, 판정결과를 바탕을 개인 맞춤형 운동 및 영양정보 등을 추천하는 시스템 설계에 관한 연구이다. 본 시스템은 바이오 생체정보 측정 데이터를 기반으로 하고 있으며, 건강 설문모델 및 Framework 과 Expert 판정 모델 및 Framework을 키오스크 시스템으로 구현하여 사용자에게 건강관련 맞춤 정보를 제공하는 기능을 포함한다.
