This study investigated the removal characteristics, Microcystin decomposition and generation of by-products when aqueous Microcystis sp. is oxidized by ozone. The concentration of Microcystin (MC) in aqueous solution has been found by HPLC analysis to decrease continuously by ozonation after the initial, abrupt increase. The kinetic constant of the decomposition of MC-RR and -LR were 0.0596 and 0.0243, respectively. This means that removal efficiency of MC-RR by its oxidative decomposition is preferable compared with that of MC-LR. On the other hand, it has been found that the decomposition product, TOC, exhibits the continuous decrease in the concentration by further ozonation, while DOC and UV-254 increase temporarily until 10 minutes before the decrease. Furthermore, the GC/MSD analysis has revealed that the ozonation of Microcystis sp. for 100minutes affords five kinds of aldehydes, six kinds of alcohols, and trans-1, 2-dimethyl-cyclopropane.
In this study, the physico-chemical properties and pyrolysis kinetics of livestock mature solid fuel were investigated to know its feasibility as a fuel. Ultimate and proximate analysis results showed that livestock mature solid fuel has high contents of volatile matter (64.94%), carbon (44.35%), and hydrogen (5.54%). The low heating value of livestock mature solid fuel (3880 kcal/kg) was also higher than the standard requirement of solid fuel (3000 kcal/kg). Thermogravimetic analysis results indicated that livestock mature solid fuel has three decomposition temperature regions. The first temperature zone (130~330 ℃) was consisted with the vaporization of extracts and the decomposition of hemicellulose and cellulose. The second (330~480 ℃) and third (550~800 ℃) temperature regions were derived from the decomposition of lignin and additional decomposition of carbonaceous materials, respectively. The activation energy derived from model free kinetic analysis results including Friedman, Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO), and Kissinger-Akahira-Sunose (KAS) methods for the pyrolysis of livestock mature solid fuel was in the range of 173.98 to 525.79 kJ/mol with a conversion rate of 0.1 to 0.9. In particular, the activation energy increased largely at the higher conversion than 0.6. The kinetic analysis using a curve-fitting method suggested that livestock mature solid fuel was decomposed via a multi-step reaction which can be divided into five decomposition steps.
This study investigated methane productions and a degradation rate of organic matters by German standard method, VDI4630 test. In this study, 4 livestock byproducts from livestock farm were selected for the investigation. The objective of this study was to estimate a distribution of organic matters by using the double first-order kinetics model in order to calculate the rate of biodegradable organic matters which degrade rapidly in the initial stage and the persistently biodegradable organic matters which degrade slowly later. As a result, all the byproducts applied in this study showed rapid decomposition in the initial stage. Then the decomposition rate began to slow down for a certain period and the rate became 5 times slower than the initial decomposition rate. This trend of decomposition rate changes is typical conditions of organic matter decompositions. The easily degradable factors ($k_1$) ranged between $0.145{\sim}0.257day^{-1}$ and persistent degradable factors ($k_2$) were $0.027{\sim}0.080day^{-1}$. Among these results, greater organic matter decomposition rates from VDI4630 had greater $k_1$ values (0.257, $0.211day^{-1}$) and smaller $k_2$ values (0.027, $0.030day^{-1}$) for dairy wastewater and forage byproduct, respectively.
This study was carried out to determine the reaction kinetic constant of the dehydration - thermal decomposition of $Na_2B_4O_7{\cdot}10H_2O/Na_2B_4O_7{\cdot}5H_2O$ and to investigate the durability during the repeated use of a chemical heat-storage material and the reproducibility of reaction system. The order of the dehydration reaction was 1st-order. The reaction rate was directly proportional to a partial pressure difference of water steam. The kinetic constant was 0.27 and the reproducibility of dehydration reaction for a kinetic constant and a reaction order was excellent. The activity variation in the durability test of a chemical heat-storage material was within range of ${\pm}5%$ during the repeatedly use in several times.

The thermal decomposition of phase stabilized ammonium nitrate(PSAN) was studied by means of thermogravimetric analysis(TGA). In this study, potassium nitrate and zinc oxide were used as the phase stabilizers in the range of contents from 0 wt.% to 8 wt.%. The kinetics and mechanism for the decomposition were evaluated using integral methods. It was found that the thermal kinetic parameters such as activation energy(I) and frequency factor(A) increase with the increase of the stabilizer contents, and the mechanism of decomposition also changes.
In this paper, the Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) method, which is a statistical analysis technique to find the modal characteristics of a structure, is adapted to identify the modal parameters of a tall chimney structure. A wind force time history, which is applied to the structure, is obtained by a wind tunnel test of a scale down model. The POD method is applied on the wind force induced responses of the structure, and the true normal modes of the structure can be obtained. The modal parameters including, natural frequency, mode shape, damping ratio and kinetic energy of the structure can be estimated accurately. With these results, it may be concluded that the POD method can be applied to obtain accurate modal parameters from the wind-induced building responses.
We have used FT-IR spectra to explain the effects of hydrogen bonding between chitosan and polycaprolactam (PA6). A dynamic mechanical analysis study suggested that the optimum chitosan and PA6 miscibility under the conditions of this experiment were obtained at a blending ratio of 40:60. We studied the thermal degradation of chitosan blended with PA6 (chitosan/PA6) by thermogravimetric analysis and kinetic analysis (by the Ozawa method). Dry chitosan and PA6 exhibited a single stage of thermal degradation and chitosan/PA6 blends having> 20 wt% PA6 exhibited at least two stages of degradation. In chitosan/PA6 blends, chitosan underwent the first stage of thermal degradation; the second stage proceeded at a temperature lower than that of PA6, because the decomposition product of chitosan accelerated the degradation of PA6. The activation energies of the blends were between 130 and 165 kJ/mol, which are also lower than that of PA6.
In the present study, a tentative mechanism for the decomposition of the hydroperoxide formed during the thermal oxidation of an edible soybean oil was proposed. The soybean oil was thermally oxidized at $120^{\circ}C$ for 7 hrs with air injection at a rate of 120 ml/min. Through kinetic studies of the decomposition process based on the tentative mechanism and the actual experimental data obtained from the hydroperoxide decomposition at 100, 120, 150 and $180^{\circ}C$, it was found that the reaction order of the hydroperoxide decomposition in these conditions was of first order. It was also estimated that the dissociation energy for the hydroperoxide in the same conditions was 15.876 kcal/g. mol.

This study investigated methane productions and a degradation rate of organic matters by German standard method, VDI4630 test. In this study, 11 waste biomasses from agricultural fields were selected for the investigation. The objective of this study was to estimate a distribution of organic matters by using the Double first-order kinetics model in order to calculate the rate of biodegradable organic matters which degrade rapidly in the initial stage and the persistently biodegradable organic matters which degrade slowly later. As a result, all the biomasses applied in this study showed rapid decomposition in the initial stage. Then the decomposition rate began to slow down for a certain period and the rate became 10 times slower than the initial decomposition rate. This trend of decomposition rate changes is typical conditions of biomass decompositions. The easily degradable factors (k1) were raged between 0.097~0.152 day-1 from vegetable crops and persistent degradable factor (k2) were 0.002~0.024 day-1. Among these results, greater organic matter decomposition rates from VDI4630 had greater k1 values (0.152, 0.144day-1) and smaller k1 values (0.002, 0.005day-1) from cucumbers and paprika. In a meanwhile, radishes and tangerine rinds which had low decomposition rates showed 0.097 and 0.094 day-1 of k1 values and decomposition rates seems to affect k1 values.
The prediction of hydrate pellet decomposition characteristics is required to design the regasification process of GTS (gas to solid) technology, which is considered as an economic alternative for LNG technology to transport natural gas produced from small and stranded gas wells. Mathematical model based on the conservation principles, the phase equilibrium relation, equation of gas state and phase change kinetics was set up and numerical solution procedure employing volume averaged fixed grid formulation and extended enthalpy method are implemented. Initially, porous methane hydrate pellet is at uniform temperature and pressure within hydrate stable region. The pressure starts to decrease with a fixed rate down to the final pressure and is kept constant afterwards while the bounding surface of pellet is heated by convection. The predicted convective heat and mass transfer accompanied by the decomposed gas flow through hydrate/ice solid matrix is reported focused on the comparison of spherical and cylindrical pellets having the same effective radius.
