This study investigated the effects of variations in the kinetic structure on science knowledge acquisition. According to the rationale of the kinetic structure theory, a communication having high structrue would facilitate greater knowledge acquisition than a presentation with low structure. To testify that hypothesis, a modified non-equivalent pretest posttest control group design was used. Four 10th grade classes (2 classes for each sex) were selected. On the topic of human digestive system, two tape recorded lessons differing in kinetic structure were developed. On n of two was high structure ($\bar{B}_{1}$=0.56), and the other was low structrue ($\bar{B}_{1}$=0.99) Results indicated that the high structure lesson did not show significantly higher score than the low structrue lesson(F=2.225, P<0.137). But when the data were analyzed by sex, only boy students showed the result that the high structure lesson had significantly higher score than the low structure lesson (F=4.785, P<0.009). The results of this study suggest that a high Structure communication will facilitate the science achievement in the case of boy students.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the kinetic energy of putter head and ball movements during the process of impact. Highly skilled 5 golfers(less than 1 handicap) participated in this study and the target distance was 3 m. Movements of ball and putter head were recorded with 2 VHS video cameras(60 Hz, 1/500 s shutter speed). Small control object($18.5{\times}18.5{\times}78.5\;cm$) was used in this sdtuldy. Analyzing the process of impact, putter was digitized before 0.0835 s and after 0.0835 s of impact. Ball was digitized 0.1336 s after impact. The results showed that the maximum speed was appeared at Impact and prolonged for a while. Contact point of the club head was within 0.7 cm to the z axis. After contacting the club head, the ball was moved above the ground level(slide) and returned to the ground with sliding and rolling. After contacting the ground, the speed of ball was relied on the surface of the ground. During impact, 70% of kinetic energy of club head has been transferred to the ball.
Purpose: This study compared the thigh circumference and Lysholm scale of a stable and unstable exercise group of patients who had undergone an anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACL reconstruction). Methods: The subjects were patients more than 4 weeks after their ACL reconstruction and could stand on one leg. The patients were divided into a control group with 9 patients performing closed kinetic chain exercises on a stable floor and an experimental group with 10 patients performing closed kinetic chain exercises en an unstable floor. The degree of muscle atrophy was compared by measuring the circumference of the injured thigh before the exercise program, and 3 weeks and 6 weeks after the exercise program. The Lysholm scale was used to assess the function of the knee joint. Results: There was no significant increase in thigh circumference according to the exercise periods in the two groups. However, there was a statistically significant increase before exercises and 6 weeks after the exercises (p<0.05). There were statistically significant differences in the Lysholm scores between the two groups (p<0.05). Conclusion: There were no statistically significant increase in the two groups, but there was a significant difference between before the exercise program and 6 weeks after the exercise program (p<0.05).

Wind is an abundant source of natural energy which can be utilized to generate power. Wind velocity does not remain constant, and as a result the output power of wind turbine generators (WTGs) fluctuates. To reduce the fluctuation, different approaches are already being proposed, such as energy storage devices, electric double layer capacitors, flywheels, and so on. These methods are effective but require a significant extra cost to installation and maintenance. This paper proposes to reduce output power fluctuation by controlling kinetic energy of a WTG system. A MW-class pitch-regulated permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) is introduced to apply a power fluctuation reducing method. The major advantage of this proposed method is that, an additional energy storage system is not required to control the power fluctuation. Additionally, the proposed method can mitigate shaft stress of a WTG system. Which is reflected in an enhanced reliability of the wind turbine. Moreover, the proposed method can be changed to the maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control method by adjusting an averaging time. The proposed power smoothing control is compared with the MPPT control method and verified by using the MATLAB SIMULINK environment.
In the present study, effects of $\beta$-alanine, a known taurine antagonist for its structural similarity, on the adaptive regulation and kinetic behavior of the taurine transporter were investigated in the HT-29, human colon carcinoma cell line. Pretreatment of the cell with $\beta$-alanine(10mM) for varying periods from 3 to 30 hrs significantly reduced the taurine uptake compared to the value for control cells. This decrease in the taurine transporter activity was dependent on the incubation time with $\beta$-alanine, and the maximal down-regulation of the transporter activity was observed in cells pretreated with $\beta$-alanine for 24 hrs (25% of the control value, p<0.01). The taurine transporter appears to bind exclusively with $\beta$-alanine in the HT-29 cells since the same concentration of $\alpha$-alanine added in the culture medium for 24 hrs did not influence the taurine uptake. Kinetic analyses of the taurine transporter activity was performed in the HT-29 cell line with varying taurine concentration (5~60$\mu$M) in the uptake medium. Active taurine uptake was significantly lower in $\beta$-alanine pretreated cells compared to the value for control cells in the range of taurine concentration used in the experiment (p<0.001). The cells pretreated with $\beta$-alanine showed a 50% lower maximal velocity (Vmax, 1.7$\pm$2.0 nmole.mg $protein^{-1}$.$30min^{-1}$), and a 99% higher Michaelis constant (Km, 40.3$\pm$7.6$\mu$M) than the control values (3.3$\pm$1.9 nmole.mg $protein^{-1}$.$30min^{-1}$, and 20.3$\pm$2.1$\mu$M, respectively). These results on kinetic data suggest that $\beta$-alanine induced down-regulation of the taurine transporter activity was associated with decreases in both maximal velocity and affinity of the transporter.
When rock burst occurs, the damaged coal, rock and other fragments can be ejected to the roadway at a speed of up to 10 m/s. It is extremely harmful to personnel and mining equipment, and seriously affects the mining activities. In order to study the energy evolution characteristics, especially kinetic energy, in the process of rock mass failure, this paper first analyzes the energy changes of the rock in different stages under uniaxial compression. The formula of the kinetic energy of rock sample considering the energy from the indenter of the testing machine is obtained. Then, the uniaxial compression tests with different stiffness ratios of the indenter and rock sample are simulated by numerical simulation. The kinetic energy Ud, elastic strain energy Ue, friction energy Uf, total input energy U and surface energy Uθ of crack cracking are analyzed. The results show that: The stiffness ratio has influence on the peak strength, peak strain, Ud, Ue, Uθ, Uf and U of rock samples. The variation trends of strength, strain and energy with stiffness are different. And when the stiffness ratio increases to a certain value, if the stiffness of the indenter continues to increase, it will have no longer effect on the rock sample.
ABS(Anti-skid Brake System) had been developed on purpose of most effect at breaking in limited runway. An aircraft has a large amount of kinetic energy on landing. When the brakes are applied, the kinetic energy of the aircraft is dissipated as heat energy in the brake disks between the tire and the ground. The optimum value of the slip during braking is the value at the maximum coefficient of friction. An anti-skid system should maintain the brake torque at a level corresponding to this optimum value of slip. This system is electric control system for brake control valve at effective control to prevent slip and wheel speed or speed ratio. In this study we measured the thickness of the carbon disk before and after to find its wear and it shows that carbon disk brake has higher stiffness and strength than metal disk at high temperature. In addition, thermal structural stability and appropriate frictional coefficient of the carbon disk brake prove its possible substitution of metal disk brake.
Purpose: The objective of this study was to identify the effects of a telephone follow-up program on patient compliance, urea kinetic modeling and incidence of infection in patients with continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). Method: A pretest-posttest design with a nonequivalent control group was used to examine the effects of a telephone follow-up program for 12 weeks in a group of 39 CAPD patients. The telephone follow-up group of 17 patients received telephone follow-up 10 min once a week for 1 month and 10 min twice a month for 2 months during 12 weeks compared to control group of 22 who patients received usual care. Results: The telephone follow-up group showed no significant changes in patient compliance and urea kinetic modeling, although patients with CAPD receiving a telephone follow-up showed reduced incidence of exit site infection during the intervention compared with the control group. Conclusion: Telephone follow-up program for CAPD patients may decrease the incidence of exit site infection. Future studies with a larger sample be done utilizing diet and exercise reinforcement program combined with telephone follow-up as a nursing intervention for patients with CAPD.
High voltage impulse (HVI) has been gained attention as an alternative technique that could control the CaCO3 scale problems encountered in water main, pipe, cooling tower and heat exchanger vessels. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of electric field (E) and contact time (t) of HVI on reduction of Ca2+ concentration at two different temperatures of 25℃ and 60℃. A kinetic model on the effect of E and t was investigated too. As the E and t increased, the Ca2+ concentration decreased more than that of the control (= no HVI). The Ca2+ concentration decreased up to 81% at 15 kV/cm at 60℃, which was nearly 2 times greater than the control. With these experimental data-set of reduction of Ca2+ concentration under different E and t, the kinetic model was developed. The relationship between E and t required to reduce the concentration of Ca2+ by 30% was modeled at each temperature. The empirical model equations were; E0.83· t = 60.3 at 25℃ and E0.08· t = 1.1 at 60℃. These equations state the products of En and t is always constant, which means that the required contact time can be reduced in accordance with the increment of E and vice versa.
Objective: This study aimed to compare the frictional force (FR) in self-ligating brackets among different bracket-archwire angles, bracket materials, and archwire types. Methods: Passive and active metal self-ligating brackets and active ceramic self-ligating brackets were included as experimental groups, while conventional twin metal brackets served as a control group. All brackets were maxillary premolar brackets with 0.022 inch [in] slots and a $-7^{\circ}$ torque. The orthodontic wires used included 0.018 round and $0.019{\times}0.025$ in rectangular stainless steel wires. The FR was measured at $0^{\circ}$, $5^{\circ}$, and $10^{\circ}$ angulations as the wire was drawn through the bracket slots after attaching brackets from each group to the universal testing machine. Static and kinetic FRs were also measured. Results: The passive self-ligating brackets generated a lower FR than all the other brackets. Static and kinetic FRs generally increased with an increase in the bracket-archwire angulation, and the rectangular wire caused significantly higher static and kinetic FRs than the round wire (p < 0.001). The metal passive self-ligating brackets exhibited the lowest static FR at the $0^{\circ}$ angulation and a lower increase in static and kinetic FRs with an increase in bracket-archwire angulation than the other brackets, while the conventional twin brackets showed a greater increase than all three experimental brackets. Conclusions: The passive self-ligating brackets showed the lowest FR in this study. Self-ligating brackets can generate varying FRs in vitro according to the wire size, surface characteristics, and bracket-archwire angulation.
