  • This is a dissertation about the state and cable television industry relationship during the early days of Kim Dae-Jung administration(1998.2-2000.1) in Korea. This study adopted historical approach and methodology of archival research. Offe's state theories of reproduction of late capitalism and the concept of Korean patriarchal state-led capitalism were suggested in this paper. Offe argued that the goal of the late capitalist state is successful capital accumulation and democratic legitimation with bureaucratic rationalization. For this purpose, the state intervenes market structuring by various plans and national policies. The Kim Dae-Jung administration reorganized cable television market with neo-liberalistic strategies and corporatist forms of policy-making. The government negotiated capitalists and civil society for managing capitalistic economy and cable television market in a horizontal relationship. Successful consequences of the market growth resulted in generating mass loyalty. The former administrations to the contrary, invisibly arranged state-led capitalism was an only alternative to the Kim Dae-Jung administration. The Korean state-led capitalism evolved gradually into different forms.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to report the case of a patient with recurring non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) taking Samchilchoongcho-Jung with Afatinib. Methods: An NSCLC patient diagnosed with multiple bone and pulmonary metastasis was taking Afatinib (20 mg/day) and suffering from stomatitis caused by the Afatinib. The patient was treated with Samchilchoongcho-Jung (1,500 mg/ day) for 3 months. The tumor size was measured with computed tomography, and laboratory findings, including tumor markers (CEA, Cyfra 21-1), were also followed up. Stomatitis was measured by a numeric rating scale, and adverse events were evaluated using the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (NCI-CTCAE), version 4.0. Results: After combined treatment, stable disease was shown on computed tomography. The tumor marker levels of CEA and Cyfra 21-1 were decreased, and the stomatitis significantly improved. NCI-CTCAE 4.0 showed no adverse events. Conclusion: This case study suggests that Samchilchoongcho-Jung may have a synergic effect, in conjunction with Afatinib, on the treatment of patients with recurring NSCLC.

Methods: The patient diagnosed as peroneal neuropathy was treated by Acupuncture, Bee Venom therapy, Herbal medicine. To evaluate the effects of Korean treatment, we used Range of Motion(ROM) of Ankle, Visual Analog Scale(VAS), Numeric Rating Scale(NRS), Ankle-Hind-foot Scale(AHS), Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(DITI). Results: After treatment, ROM of Ankle, VAS, NRS, AHS were improved. Temperature Difference(${\Delta}T$) was decreased on DITI. Conclusions: This study suggests that Korean medical treatment might be effective on sitting cross-legged patient diagnosed as Peroneal Neuropathy.

  • This study was designed to evaluate the effects of the oriental medicine(Sojeockjeongwonsan) on a Jeock-Jeung patient. The clinical data was analyzed on a patient with Jeock-Jeung, deemed due to Gangiulgyul(肝氣鬱結) and Junggiheoyak(正氣虛弱). The patient’s main symptoms were abdominal pain and abdominal mass. The patient was admitted to Dae-Gu Hanny University Dae-Gu Oriental Medicine Hospital. Clinical symptoms, including abdominal pain, abdominal mass and general condition, improved after treatment. This study suggests that Sojeockjeongwonsan is significantly effective in treatment of a Jeock-Jeung.
