Corner cut, corner chamfered or a building shape change are adopted in the design of tall buildings to achieve aerodynamic superiority as well as response reduction. Kikuchi et.al pointed out that large negative peak external pressures can appear near the inside corner of set-back low rise buildings. It is therefore necessary to pay attention to facade design around steps in building surfaces. Peak wind pressures for corner cut or corner chamfered configurations are given in the AIJ code. However, they cannot be applied where there are many variations of vertical and horizontal steps. There has been no previous systematic research on peak wind pressures around steps in building surfaces. In this study, detailed phenomenon of peak wind pressures around steps in buildings are investigated focusing on vertical and horizontal distances from the building's corner.
Inconel 600 alloy, Ni base alloy, is widely used for steam generator tubings where sensitization occurs at grain boundaries and sensitization will induce tubing failures. This alloy has usually paramagnetic property, however, it transforms into ferromagnetic property along grain boundaries when sensitization occurs: this means NDE using magnetism for sensitization is possible. Therefore, in this study, Inconel 600 alloys were heat treated at 873 K from 0 to 400 hours so as to generate sensitization and their magnetic properties were investigated in detail. The saturation and the residual magnetization increase with increasing heat treatment time and take a maximum. On the other hand, the coercive force decreases with the increase in time of heat treatment. We confirmed that characteristics at only grain boundaries change into ferromagnetic phase by a MFM observation. As a trial for industrial application, heat treated Inconel 600 alloy was scanned by a magnetic field sensor, and the variations in magnetization were obtained nondestructively. The results indicate a feasibility of magnetic NDE for sensitization of Inconel 600 alloy.

We have successfully demonstrated a high-pin-count and thin embedded-LSI package to realize next generation's mobile terminals. The following three design key points were applied: (i) Using Cu posts, (ii) Using the coreless structure, (iii) Using a Cu plate as the ground plane. In order to quantitatively determine the contribution of the three points, the five-stage process for reducing the number of metal layers is described by means of the electrical simulation. The point-(i) and (ii) are effective from the viewpoint of the power integrity (PI); that is, these points play important roles in reducing the number of metal layers, and especially the point-(ii) contributes at least twice as the point-(i). The point-(iii) is not effective in the PI, but has a few effects on the signal integrity (SI). For reducing the number of metal layers, we should, at first, pay attention whether the PI characteristics fulfill the specification, and then we should confirm the SI characteristics.

TH~04 showed antifungal activity to several fungi including Moniliniafructicola, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Magnaponhe grisea, Rhizoctonia solani, Phytophthora capsici, Altemaria kikuchiana, Fusarium solani, and Fusarium O),ysporum. The optimum cultural conditions for the production of antifungal substances were $20^{\circ}C$pH 7, and 7 days.
Fomitopsis palustris, a brown-rot basidiomycete, causes the most destructive type of decay in wooden structures. In spite of its great economic importance, very little information is available at the molecular level regarding its complex decay process. To address this, we generated over 3,000 expressed sequence tags (ESTs) from a cDNA library constructed from F. palustris. Clustering of 3,095 high-quality ESTs resulted in a set of 1,403 putative unigenes comprising 485 contigs and 918 singlets. Homology searches based on BlastX analysis revealed that 78% of the F. palustris unigenes had a significant match to proteins deposited in the nonredundant databases. A subset of F. palustris unigenes showed similarity to the carbohydrateactive enzymes (CAZymes), including a range of glycosyl hydrolase (GH) family proteins. Some of these CAZyme-encoded genes were previously undescribed for F. palustris but predicted to have potential roles in biodegradation of wood. Among them, we identified and characterized a gene (FpCel45A) encoding the GH family 45 endoglucanase. Moreover, we also provided functional classification of 473 (34%) of F. palustris unigenes using the Gene Ontology hierarchy. The annotated EST data sets and related analysis may be useful in providing an initial insight into the genetic background of F. palustris.
This paper presents the materials analysis for combination of working modes of Magnetorheological (MR) damper. The materials were selected based on the optimum magnetic field strength at the effective areas in order to obtain a better design of MR damper. The design of electromagnetic circuit is one of the critical criteria in designing MR dampers besides the working mechanism and the types of MR damper. The increase in the magnetic field strength is an indication of the improvement in the damping performance of the MR damper. Eventually, the experimental test was performed under quasi-static loading to observe the performances of MR damper in shear mode, squeeze mode and mixed mode. The results showed that the increment of forces was obtained with the increased current due to higher magnetic flux density generated by electromagnetic coils. In general, it can be summarized that the combination of modes generates higher forces than single mode for the same experimental parameters throughout the study.
Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) was suspected in a corrosion failure of cooling system of stainless piping welded joint, carrying marine water. Marine water which is used for cooling water in a plant was transferred to the laboratory and used for experiment. In the first experiment, weld metal samples were exposed to the test solution for 56 days (marine water and sterilized marine water (control)). Surface condition of experimental coupons was observed using a Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). In another experiment, free corrosion potential of these material was monitored for 56 days. Pitting corrosion was found in the coupons exposed to marine water. Free corrosion potential ennoblement was found to be significant compared to control. It was suspected that this corrosion case was MIC. In the second experiment, coupons were exposed to diluted nutrient medium containing single culture of microbes isolated from the MIC causing marine water sample used for the first experiment. After exposure test, surface condition of experimental coupon was observed using SEM. Pitting corrosion was found in coupons exposed to some of the isolates. The results indicate that they contribute to the corrosive effect of the SUS316L welds.
HAZ(Heat Affected Zone of weldm ents) properties were investigated for a high nitrogen austenitic stainless steel with a chemical composition of Fe-0.02C-0.15Si-6.00Mn-10.0Ni-23.0Cr-2.00Mo-0.48N-0.14V. Thermal cycle of HAZ was simulated by the thermal cycle simulator (Gleeble 1500). The heat treatment was applied to the Charpy test size sample without notch under various peak temperatures and/or the holding times condition. V-notch Charpy test was performed at the temperature range of 273~77 K. Metallographic examination also was carried out by using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The simulated specimens revealed a slight embrittlement compared with the base materials. The impact toughness of the specimens deteriorated with the decreasing test temperature. The results from Charpy V-notch test, however, showed that significant degradation of absorbed energy caused by brittle fracture was not observed for the specimen tested in the test temperature range.
We developed novel molecular dynamics and quantum chemical molecular dynamics simulators for the design of MgO protecting layer in plasma display panel. These simulators were applied to the investigations on the destruction processes of the MgO protecting layer as well as the evaluation of its second electron emission ability. From the simulation results, we successfully proposed new guidelines for MgO protecting layer with high durability and high second electron emission ability.

In order to investigate the effect of the height of application point of lateral loads and reinforcing steel bars in walls and columns in improving the seismic behavior of confined concrete block masonry walls, an experimental research program is conducted. A total of twelve one-half scale specimens are tested under repeated lateral loads. Specimens are tested to failure with increasing maximum lateral drifts while a vertical axial load was applied and maintained constant. The specimens adopted are two-dimensional (2D) hollow concrete block masonry walls with different parameters such as shear span ratio, inflection point and percent of reinforcement in confining columns and walls. Test results obtained for each specimen include cracking patterns, load-deflection curve, and strains in reinforcement and walls in critical locations. Analysis of test data showed that above parameters generate a considerable effect on the seismic performance of confined concrete block masonry walls.
