음곡(陰谷) 오수유(吳茱萸) 약침(藥鍼)이 난소적출(卵巢摘出)생쥐의 골다공증(骨多孔症)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Herbal-Acupuncture with Evodiae Fructus at KI10 on Osteoporosis in Ovariectomized Mice)

  • Objective : This study is aimed to evaluate the effects of Evodiae Fructus herbal-acupuncture (EF-HA) at KI10 on osteoporosis induced by ovariectomy in mice. Method : Mice underwent bilateral ovariectomy. After recovering, the ovariectomized (OVX) mice were treated by needle prick, saline injection, herbal acupuncture with Evodiae Fructus (EF-HA) at KI10 for 8 weeks. Result : 1. EF-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibia in ovariectomized mice. 2. NP at KI10 significantly restored the tibial BMD (bone mineral density) in ovariectomized mice. 3. EF-HA at KI10 significantly restored the phosphorus and creatinine levels in ovariectomized mice serum. 4. EF-HA at KI10 significantly restored the tibial Ca and P levels in ovariectomized mice. 5. EF-HA at KI10 significantly reduced the tibial osteoclast-like cells in ovariectomized mice. 6. EF-HA at KI10 significantly inhibited the overgrowth of tibial GPL (growth plate length) in ovariectomized mice. Conclusion : EF-HA at KI10 has protective and therapeutic effect for osteoporosis in ovariectomized mice. Thus, it is suggested that EF-HA can be an useful therapeutics in clinical field after further researches.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of Daedon($LR_1$) Supplementation and Eumgok($KI_{10}$) Draining on changes of cerebral blood flow in normal rats. Methods : Regional cerebral blood flow(rCBF) and mean arterial blood pressure(MABP) in normal rats are observed, and those mechanisms were also investigated with pre-treatment of indomethacin (IDM) and methylene blue(MTB) each. Results : In this study, $LR_1$ supplementation and $KI_{10}$ draining elevated level of rCBF after 30 min, but MABP level was lowered at 30 min, then recovered toward normal level. Pre-treatment with indomethacin (IDM), an inhibitor of cyclooxygenase, inhibited increase of rCBF effectively, and pre-treatment with methylene blue(MTB), an inhibitor of guanylate cyclase, also inhibited increase of rCBF levels. On the other hand pre-treatment with IDM or MTB did not affect MABP levels. Conclusions : In conclusion, these results suggest that $LR_1$ supplementation and $KI_{10}$ draining can increase rCBF, and the mechanisms are thought to be related to both of cyclooxygenase and Guanylate cyclase pathways.

Suitability/Unsuitability of Cell Proliferation as an Indicator of Malignant Potential in Oral Lichen Planus: an Immunohistochemical Study

  • Background: Oral lichen planus (OLP) is categorized as premalignant lesion although its malignant potential is a matter of controversy. The objective of this study was to investigate Ki67 expression in OLP, oral epithelial dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Materials and Methods: Expression of Ki67 was evaluated through immunohistochemistry (IHC) in groups of A (17 cases of epithelial hyperplasia), B (16 cases of OLP), C1 (10 cases of mild epithelial dysplasia), C2 (10 cases of severe epithelial dysplasia), D1 (10 cases of well-differentiated OSCC), and D2 (10 cases of poorly-differentiated OSCC). Results: There was a significant difference in Ki67 expression based on quantitative analysis among the six studied groups as well as group B compared bilaterally with groups C2, D1 and D2 (p< 0.0001). However, there was no significant difference between groups B and C1 or between groups D1 and D2 (p> 0.05). Conclusions: Based on the results of the present study it may not be possible to definitely consider malignant transformation potential for OLP. However, expression of Ki67 was significantly higher in OLP than that of epithelial hyperplasia with no significant difference from that of mild epithelial dysplasia. This should be considered by clinicians to carefully and regularly follow up OLP lesions to detect potential subtle changes at an early stage.

Iodine-131 체내오염 사고에 대한 항갑상선제의 효과 (Effects of Antithyroid Drugs on Accidentally Internal Contamination of Iodine-131)

  • In case of occuring the atomic energy accidents the proper medical treatments should be necessary. As the aim of the basic data for protective actions, the present studies were carried out to evaluate the decontamination of radioiodine by the administration of the antithyroid drugs (KI, NaI) and isotonic saline. Some recommended methods of decorporating radioiodine were investigated using 450, NIH-GP mice, each injected intraperitoneally with $1{\mu}Ci$ of $NaI^{131}$ as the internal contamination and treated with 2mg/0.2ml-saline of NaI and 2.6mg/0.2ml-saline of KI as the antithyroid drugs. Accordingly, effects of antithyroid drugs for internal contamination were: 1. Administration of NaI and KI caused to rapidly excrete internal radioiodine as the antithyroid drugs and decrease in whole body retention was reduced than in the saline group. 2. After internal contamination NaI and KI were to be administered for radioprotective effects as quickly as possible. 3. Decrease in body-retention made temporary shifts with enough fluids (water), however, as far as radioprotective effects is concerned, saline was not more significant than in the other group (NaI and KI). 4. Regarding to thyroid protective effects NaI, KI and saline were significant in effectively order.

경남지역 벼 도열병균 Race의 분포추이 (Monitoring of Physiological races of Pyricularia oryzae in Gyeongnam Province)

  • 경남지방에서 벼도열병균 race의 분포상황을 알기 위하여 1990∼1994년 5개년간 경남지역의 재배품종 잎동열병 병반에서단포자 분리하여 얻은 균주 509 균주를 사용하여 연도별 race 분포상황을 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 도내에 분포한 race의 종류는 총 33종류였다. 이 중 KI 100군 race가 16종류로 연차간 분포변동이 심하였고, KI 400군 race가 6종류, KJ 100군 race가 4종류, KI 300군 race가 3종류, KJ 200군 race 2종류, race KJ-301 및 race KJ-401이 각각 1종류씩이었다. KI 및 KJ race의 분포 비율은 각각 11.5∼29.9%와 70.1∼88.5%로 KJ race의 분포밀도가 높았고 분포밀도가 높은 race는 KJ-401 및 KJ-301로 전 race의 26.7∼57.3%를 차지하였다. 지대별 race 구성 특징은 산간 지대에서는 KI race의 분포밀도가 27.3%로 해안지대 6.8%에 비해 훨씬 높았고 KJ 100군 race도 27.7%로 해안지대 11.7%보다 분포비율이 높았다. 반대로 KJ 200군 race는 해안지대가 22.0%로 산간지대 9.7%보다 아주 높았다. 조사기간중 재배된 벼품종과 race의 분포변동을 미루어 보아 race의 분포는 재배된 벼의 도열병균 race에 대한 반응형과 관련이 있을 것으로 사료된다.

Reductive effect of body weight in rats fed a high-fat diet by Sense-line

  • Sense-line (SL), a dietary functional food, is our invention for weight loss. To evaluate such an effect of SL, we analyzed the plasma levels of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, and weight changes after rats were fed on high fat diet with SL for 20 days. Plasma total cholesterol level and LDL-cholesterol level was decreased by 52% and 91.89% in 5% SL treated group and by 13% and 51.45% in 10% SL treated group, respectively. But HDL-cholesterol was not changed. In addition, the weight was significantly lower in SL group than in high-fat diet group (P<0.05). Our findings indicate that SL may contain compounds with actions, which can treat blood circulatory trouble as well as overweight.

  • 1. The cause of Pehuh is deficiency of Peki(肺氣). Symptoms are tachypnea, thirst and deafness of hemoptysis. In treatment, control it's Ki(氣). 2. The cause of Peson is in addition to Pehuh Pimo(皮毛) is demaged by heat and cold. Symptoms are alopecia, cough, sputum, fever and chill. In treatment, supply it's Ki. 3. The cause of Pero is it's Ki which is demaged by lie down for a long time or because of anxiety Sang Ryum Hueng Kum(上炎刑金). Symptoms are tachypnea, chest and back pain, cough and sputum. In treatment, supply Sinki(腎氣). 4. In correlation of Pehuh, Peson and Pero, Pehuh is progressed from Kihuh(氣虛), Peson is progressed from Pehuh and Pero is progressed from Peson. 5. The treatment of Lung disease showed by chapter Huhro(虛勞). In early stage, control it's Ki. In middle stage, supply it's Ki. The last stage, supply Sinki(腎氣).

변비(便秘)에 관(關)한 동서의학적(東西醫學的) 고찰(考察) (A Study on Constipation)

  • Objectives : To satisfy the demand of good treatment of constipation Methods : we investigated the literatures of Oriental Medicine about Constipation. Results: 1. There are three categories of etimological factors of constipation, that is, endogenous, exogenous and non-exo-endogenous factor. The endogenous factor is caused by seven emotions, called depression of Ki and stagnation of Ki. The exogenous factor is six excessive atmospheric influences, for example, wind, cold, dampness, heat and dryness. And the non-exo-endogenous factors are overfatigue, improper diet, stagnated blood and deficiency of Ki and blood that comes from old age, long disease and after delivery. 2. Classification: According to cause of disease it is classified by constipation due to cold, heat, wind, dryness, retention of undigested and phlegm. According to Internal Organs there are constipation due to deficiency syndrome of the stomach, excess syndrome of the stomach, deficiency syndrome of kidney and splenic constipation. And Differentiation of syndromes according to Ki and blood, there are constipation of deficiency type and excess type. There are constipation due to stagnation and deficiency of Ki, deficiency of blood and stagnated blood. 3. Principles and Methods of treatment 1) Herbal Medicine (1) Excess type [1] Constipation due to heat : Seunggitang(承氣湯) and Majainwhan(麻子仁丸) [2] Constipation due to stagnation of Ki : Samatang(四磨湯) and Yukmatang(六磨湯) (2) Deficiency type [1] Constipation due to deficiency of Ki : Whanggitang(黃?湯) [2] Constipation due to deficiency of blood: Yunjangwhan(潤腸丸) [3] Constipation due to cold : Jechunjun(濟川煎) and Banyuwhan(半硫丸) 2) Enema therapy: It is a method to induce defecation by honey or pig's bile juice for weak people. 3) Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Acupoints used to treat constipation are BL25, ST25 and TE6. Moxibustion at CV8, CV6 is good for constipation due to cold. (4) Diet therapy: It is very important that we eat meals regularly and defecate on the same time even if you don't. And we have to eat food like fruits, vegetables and beans. (5) finger pressure: Finger pressing around these points like ST25, SP25, BL25, BL31, BL32, BL33 and BL34 is good for it. (6) Kigong therapy: Abdominal breathing (7) Old man' s constipation: Hip bath or diet therapy is commended. Laxation with lubricant like Supungyunjangwhan(搜風潤腸丸) is used. (8) Women' s constipation: After delivery, we have to administer tonifying prescription Sipjundaebotang(十全大補湯) and enema can be used. Conclusion : We have to examine the cause of disease and bowl movement carefully. After comprehensive analysis of the data gained by the four methods of diagnosis, we diagnose and treat patients on the base of overall of symptoms and signs.

사구체신염에서 MIB-1을 이용한 Ki-67 항원의 발현 (Expression of the Ki-67 antigen Using Monoclonal Antibody MIB-1 in Children with Glomerulonephritis)

  • 목 적 : 증식성 핵 항원인 Ki-67의 발현은 조직 표본에서 세포증식의 활성도를 나타내어 주는 매우 유용한 표식자로 이용되고 있다. MIB-1은 포르말린에 고정되고 파라핀 포매된 조직에서 Ki-67항원을 인식해 낼 수 있는데, 단클론성 항체 MIB-1을 이용하여 각종 사구체신염에서 사구체 및 신세뇨관의 MIB-1발현 정도를 알아보고, 특히 메산지움의 증식을 가지는 사구체신염의 진단에 도움이 될 수 있는지를 조사하기 위하여 본 연구를 실시하였다. 대상 및 방법 : 1994년 1월부터 1996년 12월 사이에 인제의대 부산백병원 소아과에 입원하여 신질환이 의심되어 신생검을 시행한 환자 중 사구체신염으로 진단된 15세 이하의 환자 41례를 대상으로 하였다. 면역조직화학적 염색은 Ki-67에 대한 MIB-1(Immunotech, 505)항체를 이용하였으며, 판정은 모든 사구체의 세포수에 대해서 세포의 핵에 적갈색의 과립이 보이는 세포수를 백분율로 구하여 MIB-1 표지지수로 난타내었다. 결과 : 1. 미세변화 신염과 막성 신염에서는 전례에서 사구체 및 신 세뇨관에서 MIB-1의 발현은 관찰되지 않았다. 2. IgA 신증의 경우에는 18례에서 단지 2례 ($11.1\%$)에서만 사구체의 메산지움 세포와 신 세뇨관 세포에서 MIB-1이 발현되었으며, 7례에서는 신 세뇨관 세포에서만 MIB-1이 발현되었다. 3. 막증식성 사구체신염에서는 4례중 2례에서 사구체내에 MIB-1이 발현되었다. 4. 연쇄상 구균 감염 후 사구체신염의 경우에서는 5례중 4례에서 사구체 와 신 세뇨관 세포에서 MIB-1항원이 발현되었다. 결 론 :각종 신질환에서 사구체내 MIB-1의 발현은 사구체 및 신 세뇨관 세포의 증식상태를 어느 정도 반영한다고 생각된다. 그러나 IgA 신증의 경우에서 나타난 바와 같이 메산지움 세포에서의 발현율은 낮아서, 메산지움의 증식을 보이는 사구체신염의 진단에 도움을 줄 수 있는 지표로서의 의미는 제한적인 것으로 사료된다.

Evaluation of Drought Tolerance using Anthesis-silking Interval in Maize

  • We screened the drought tolerant maize using seventeen maize genotypes from different sources, nine inbred genotypes from United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) (B73, CML103, CML228, CML277, CML322, CML69, Ki3, Ki11, and NC350), three Southeast Asian genotypes (DK9955, LVN-4, and 333), and five Korean hybrids (Cheongdaok, Gangdaok, Ilmichal, Kwangpyeongok, and Pyeonganok). We evaluated anthesis-silking interval (ASI), leaf senescence (LS), ears per plant (EPP), tassel length (TL), and fresh weight (FW) at silking date. According to ASI and LS examination, CML103 and Kill were drought tolerant genotypes, wheareas Ki3 and 333 were drought susceptible. EPP, TL, and FW differed according to drought resistance. Grain yield was correlated strongly with ASI, but moderately with LS. Difference in ASI between drought-stressed (DS) and well-watered (WW) conditions was less than three days in CML228, CML103, Cheongdaok, NC350, B73, Ki11, CML322, and Kwangpyeongok, whereas that of Ki3, Pyeonganok, and Gangdaok was more than 6.5 days. We concluded that CML228, CML103, Cheongdaok, NC350, B73, Ki11, CML322, and Kwangpyeongok are drought tolerant genotypes, whereas Ki3, Pyeonganok, and Gangdaok are drought susceptible.
