  • A large NaX type zeolite crystal of a uniform particle size of 20${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ are grown with various H2O content by hydrothermal reaction and added seed crystal (2~3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) to reactant solution as a function of different adding seed levels from 3 to 15 %. The result that increased purity of NaX zeolite above 95% and homogeneity of crystal size by increasing adding seed levels, also decreased crystallization time. It was explained that adding seed to synthesis solution leaded out increase of surface area of physical contact reaction and directed growth of seed crystal, so more rapid consumption of reaction gel as increase seeding levels.

  • Force measuring devices should be calibrated to guarantee their test results. In order to establish the force standards in Korea, deadweight machines of 5 kN, 20 kN, 100 kN and 500 kN capacity and a hydraulic force standard machine of 2 MN capacity were installed at the Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science(KRISS). As heavy industries in Korea have been developed, we should measure large forces over 2 MN capacity precisely in industries. We developed a 10 MN force standard machine with built-in force transducers which is more compact and cheaper than hydraulic force standard machines which have been widely used as large force standards in most national metrology laboratories. Test results reveal that the relative expanded uncertainty of the force machine is less than 4.1 $\times$ 10-4 in the range of 1 MN-4.5 MN.

  • Based on the anthropometric data of Korea male adults, a head and torso simulator(HATS) is constructed to measure its head related transfer functions (HRTFs) which can be used for three dimensional (3-D) sound localization. The HRTFs binaural impulse responses, are measured in an anechoic chamber using a burst maximum length sequence (MLS) signal of 65,535 samples and 32,768 samples acquisition at the sampling rate of 75.47kHz. Also measured are the impulse responses of a driving loudspeaker and some headphones for sound reproduction to get the exact HRTF of the HATS-alone. Through a post-processing procedure, the impulse-version HRTFs at the sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz, which have filter lengths of 512 points, are finally obtained. As an application of the measured HRTFs, a 3-D sound processor for headphone reproduction has been developed. The signal intervals to be processed can be selected and each interval is manipulated to have its diretionality and distance information by using corresponding HRTF and energy control.

  • We theoretically investigated the far-field radiation pattern of epi-signal from a polystyrene sphere in coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy with an objective lens of high numerical aperture. We calculated the field distribution of the incident laser beams under the tight-focusing condition and the far-field radiation pattern through coherent addition of radiation from the nonlinear polarizations (Hertzian dipoles) as the origin of CARS signal generation. The epi-radiation patterns for polystyrene spheres of different diameters are calculated, and the pattern of a sphere is also compared with that of a shell fer a diameter of 1100 nm. We finally show how the radiation pattern of the polystyrene sphere changes as the center of the sphere shifts from the focus of the beam.

  • We report on the tunneling spectroscopy of tunnel junctions using d-wave superconductor in relation to Andreev reflection. The zero bias conductance peak (ZBCP) which has maximum on [110] direction of ab-plane is observed on metal $Au/YBa_2Cu_3O_y$ tunnel junctions while it is suppressed on the ferromagnetic $Co/Au/YBa_2Cu_3O_y$ tunnel junctions. The effects of Andreev reflection on the differential conductance of each junction are dependent on the tunnel direction. For the $Co/Au/YBa_2Cu_3O_y$ junction, the suppression of Andreev reflection takes place by spin-polarized quasiparticles tunneling from a ferromagnetic material to a d-wave superconductor. By comparing these experimental results with recent theoretical works on Andreev reflection, the existence of Andreev bound state due to the d-wave symmetry of the pair potential is verified in high-$T_c$ superconductor.

  • Present study shows three different methods finding the eigenfrequencies of an infinite circular cylinder under free-vibration; Elasticity theory that can be applied to general case, thin-shell theory that can be effectively applied to the cylinders with small thickness, and numerical study using Finite Element Method (FEM). The results obtained from those methods were verified through the cross check among the calculations. Changing the thickness of the cylinder for a fixed outer radius, all the eigenfrequencies below 1 kHz were found and their dependences on the modal index and the thickness were observed.

  • The precise time, which is an essential element of the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), such as US GPS, GLONASS in Russia, Galileo in Europe, and Beidou in China, is an important foundation for various economic activities around the world. Communication systems, power grids, IoT, Cloud computing and financial networks operate based on the precise time not only for the operating principles, but also for the synchronization and operational efficiency between tasks. In this paper, we introduce the Atomium software for the first time in South Korea. Atomium was developed by ORB in Belgium to calculate the clock error(clock solution) with GNSS signal observation data based on PPP method. The observation data is provided by Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science(KRISS). The results of MJD57106 with Atomium software are presented.

  • To calibrate precision autocollimators, the Korean Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) has built a small angle generator using a laser interferometer. The system is based on a sine bar mechanism in which the angle is determined from the ratio of two lengths. The rotational angle is measured by the angle interferometer and the heterodyne laser interferometer detects the relative displacement of two retro-reflectors attached to the rotating arm. The distance between the two retro-reflectors of the laser angle interferometer is self-calibrated by an index table positioned on the rotating arm. The resolution of the system is 0.002 seconds, and the accuracy is better than 0.04 seconds within a measuring range of $\pm$1 degree. The small angle generator can also be used with an index table that can divide one circle into 1440 angles. The combined system can generate any angle over 360 degrees to an accuracy of 0.11 seconds.

  • A new medium vacuum primary standard using the static expansion method was developed in KRISS. In order to evaluate the performance of the equipment, we compared the medium vacuum standard with an ultrasonic interferometer manometer using two capacitance diaphragm gauges, the measuring ranges of which were 133 Pa and 1,333 Pa respectively. The result, Error normalized values, showed that the two standards are coincident each other within the range of combined uncertainty at calibrated pressure of $3pa\;\sim\;100pa$.
