Bismuth layered structure, Cerium-substituted $Bi_4Ti_3O_{12}$ ($(Bi,Ce)_4Ti_3O_{12}$) thin films were prepared on the $Pt/TiO_2/SiO_2/Si$ substrates by the pulsed laser deposition method. We investigated the Ce-subsitituted effect on the grain orientation and ferroelectric properties. $Ce^{3+}$ ion substitution for $Bi^{3+}$ ion in perovskite layers of BTO decreased the deeree of c-axis orientation and increased the remanent polariation (2Pr). The structure and morphology of the films were characterized using X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy. The $(Bi,Ce)_4Ti_3O_{12}$ (BCT) thin films, which were annealed $700^{\circ}C\;and\;800^{\circ}C$ for 10min and 30min, showed a perovskite phase and dense microstructure. As the thickness of the BCT film was decresed that the ferroelectric properties of the BCT thin films were good.
Inorganic bovine bone mineral has been widely researched as bone substitution materials in orthopedic and oral and maxillofacial application. OCS-B(NIBEC, Korea) is newly-developed inorganic bovine bone mineral. The aim of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of bovine bone-derived bone graft material(OCS-B). Micro-structure of newly-developed inorganic bovine bone mineral(OCS-B) was analyzed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). Round cranial defects with eight mm diameter were made and filled with OCS-B in rabbits. OCS-B was inserted into femoral quadrant muscle in mouse. In scanning electron microscope, OCS-B was equal to natural hydroxyapatite. Rabbits were sacrificed at 2 weeks and 4 weeks after surgery and mice were sacrificed at 1 week and 2 weeks after surgery. Decalcified specimens were prepared and observed by microscope. In calvarial defects, osteoid and new bone were formed in the neighborhood of OCS-B at 2 weeks after surgery. And at 4 weeks after surgery osteoid and new bone bridge formed flourishingly. No inflammatory cells were seen on the surface of OCS-B at 1 week and 2 weeks in mouse experimental group. It is concluded that newly-developed inorganic bovine bone mineral(OCS-B) is a flourishing bone-forming material and biocompatible material.
This research was conducted to make suggestions for the promotion of research activities in the field of animal resources sciences, and we evaluated the research funding trend and the present status of research funding offered by KOSEF in this field. Comparative portion of the number of research projects and grants in this field to other fields has a tendency to be decreased year by year except recent few years. Researchers in this field have received more research funding from the group-based program than from the individual-based program. Also, they have received less money(per project) than did researchers in the fields of general agricultural sciences and other science and technology. Researchers in this field ranges from 43 to 51 years of age and showed 48 years of average age. It was found that researchers who has been funded in the field of animal resources sciences have showed tendency of publication of more articles to SCI journals in recent 5 years. The strong points of the animal resources of agricultural sciences field in South Korea include: lots of researchers, the establishment of research infra-structure, the excellence in research competitiveness and technology level. However, its weaknesses are: a lack of leadership in relevant societies and institutes, a predicted shortfall of researchers in the next generation and insufficient research productivity. The opportunities include: increasing the importance of the biotechnology industry, activating international cooperation researches and exploring the multitude of possible research areas to be studied. However, some concerns still exist, such as threats from developed countries for the government to open the agricultural market, the reduction of the number of full-time farms and intensification of needs for economic and social effects. The diverse actions and systems based upon the strongpoint, weakness, opportunity and threats above-mentioned are required to encourage research activities in the field of animal resources of agricultural sciences in Korea In addition, researchers in this fields would make an effort to keep pace with international society as well as domestic demands.

This research was conducted to make suggestions for the promotion of research activities in the Life Sciences field, and we evaluated the research funding trend and the present status of research funding offered by KOSEF in this field. Researchers in this field have received more research funding from the group-based programme than from the individual-based programme. Also, they have received less money (per project) than did researchers in other Science and Technology fields. The portion of research funds given to the Medical Sciences fields has markedly increased year by year, whereas the portion of funding given to the Agricultural Sciences and Biological Sciences fields has decreased annually. To encourage research activities in the Life Sciences field in Korea, the following actions and systems are required: 1) formulation of a mid-and a long-term research master plan, 2) development of a database on man power in related fields, 3) activation of top-down research topics, and associated increase of individual research grants, 4) development of special national programs for basic researches in Life Sciences, 5) organization of a committee for policy and planning within related societies, and 6) system development for fair evaluation of the results of research activities.

Research outputs of science and engineering fields including Earth Science were analyzed using KOSEF's Database. A total $312(1.5\%)$ Geoscientists participated in KOSEF's Database, and the number of articles they published in SCI (Science Citation Index) journals and Non-SCI journals during the last five years (1999 to 2003) was $1,026(0.2\%)\;and\;3,265(0.5\%)$, respectively. The average number of articles per capita published in SCI journals during the last five years was 3.3 in Geoscience, 4.0 in Mathematics, 57.6 in Physics, 60.4 in Chemistry, and 33.4 in Biology. The average number of articles per capita published in SCI journals within Geoscience was 9.6 in Environmental Geology, 4.6 in Stratigraphy and Sedimentology, 4.2 in Geochemistry, 3.6in Hydrology, 3.5 in Oceanography, and 3.2 in Mining Geology. The results of this survey will be used as a reference in comparing research outputs of Earth Science and other sciences, both in quality and quantity.
Changes in amino acids content and antioxidative activity in the leaves of buchu (Allium tuberosum R.) at different harvesting times were investigated. Contents of protein, lipids and ash were the highest at the first harvest time, but decreased thereafter, whereas water content showed the reverse pattern. Amino acid contents were the highest at 2nd harvest time, major compositions being aspartic acid, alanine, and glutamic acid, which decreased thereafter. Antioxidative activities according to harvesting times also revealed the same pattern showing by the major nutrients. Correlation coefficients between antioxidative detecting methods in TEAC vs FRAP assay, FRAP vs DPPH assay, and TEAC vs DPPH showed 0.996, 0.992, and 0.987, respectively (p<0.001). The earliest-harvested buchu had the highest content of carotenoids, vitamin C, and total phenol, whereas the lowest of chlorophyll. Antioxidative effects of buchu, with vitamin C and total phenol contents have high coefficient correlations of 0.991 and 0.989, respectively.
This paper considers development of noninformative priors for the familial data when the families have equal number of offspring. Several noninformative priors including the widely used Jeffreys' prior as well as the different reference priors are derived. Also, a simultaneously-marginally-probability-matching prior is considered and probability matching priors are derived when the parameter of interest is inter- or intra-class correlation coefficient. The simulation study implemented by Gibbs sampler shows that two-group reference prior is slightly edge over the others in terms of coverage probability.
