  • Several types of data are collected from buoy due to the development of hardware technology.. However, the collected data are difficult to use due to errors including missing values and outliers depending on mechanical faults and meteorological environment. Therefore, in this study, linear interpolation is performed by adding the missing time data to enable machine learning to the insufficient meteorological data. After the linear interpolation, XGBoost and KNN-regressor, are used to forecast error data and suggested model is evaluated by using real-world data of a buoy.

  • In this paper, we proposed the new fuzzy pattern classifier which combines several fuzzy models with simple consequent parts hierarchically. The basic component of the proposed fuzzy pattern classifier with hierarchical structure is a fuzzy model with simple consequent part so that the complexity of the proposed fuzzy pattern classifier is not high. In order to analyze and divide the input space, we use Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm. In addition, we exploit Conditional Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm to analyze the sub space which is divided by Fuzzy C-Means clustering algorithm. At each clustered region, we apply a fuzzy model with simple consequent part and build the fuzzy pattern classifier with hierarchical structure. Because of the hierarchical structure of the proposed pattern classifier, the data distribution of the input space can be analyzed in the macroscopic point of view and the microscopic point of view. Finally, in order to evaluate the classification ability of the proposed pattern classifier, the machine learning data sets are used.

  • Moving toward an aged society, traffic accidents involving elderly drivers have also attracted broader public attention. A rapid increase of senior involvement in crashes calls for developing appropriate crash-severity prediction models specific to senior drivers. In that regard, this study leverages machine learning (ML) algorithms so as to predict the severity of vehicle-pedestrian collisions induced by elderly drivers. Specifically, four ML algorithms (i.e., Logistic model, K-nearest Neighbor (KNN), Random Forest (RF), and Support Vector Machine (SVM)) have been developed and compared. Our results show that Logistic model and SVM have outperformed their rivals in terms of the overall prediction accuracy, while precision measure exhibits in favor of RF. We also clarify that driver education and technology development would be effective countermeasures against severity risks of senior driver-induced collisions. These allow us to support informed decision making for policymakers to enhance public safety.

  • In this study, ensemble machine learning (ML) models are employed to estimate the hardened properties of Self-Compacting Geopolymer Concrete (SCGC). The input variables affecting model development include the content of the SCGC such as the binder material, the age of the specimen, and the ratio of alkaline solution. On the other hand, the output parameters examined includes compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength. The ensemble machine learning models are trained and validated using a database comprising 396 records compiled from 132 unique mix trials performed in the laboratory. Diverse machine learning techniques, notably K-nearest neighbours (KNN), Random Forest, and Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), have been employed to construct the models coupled with Bayesian optimisation (BO) for the purpose of hyperparameter tuning. Furthermore, the application of nested cross-validation has been employed in order to mitigate the risk of overfitting. The findings of this study reveal that the BO-XGBoost hybrid model confirms better predictive accuracy in comparison to other models. The R2 values for compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength are 0.9974, 0.9978, and 0.9937, respectively. Additionally, the BO-XGBoost hybrid model exhibits the lowest RMSE values of 0.8712, 0.0773, and 0.0799 for compressive strength, flexural strength, and split tensile strength, respectively. Furthermore, a SHAP dependency analysis was conducted to ascertain the significance of each parameter. It is observed from this study that GGBS, Flyash, and the age of specimens exhibit a substantial level of influence when predicting the strengths of geopolymers.

  • Object recognition technologies using PCA(principal component analysis) recognize objects by deciding representative features of objects in the model image, extracting feature vectors from objects in a image and measuring the distance between them and object representation. Given frequent recognition problems associated with the use of point-to-point distance approach, this study adopted the k-nearest neighbor technique(class-to-class) in which a group of object models of the same class is used as recognition unit for the images in-putted on a continual input image. However, the robustness of recognition strategies using PCA depends on several factors, including illumination. When scene constancy is not secured due to varying illumination conditions, the learning performance the feature detector can be compromised, undermining the recognition quality. This paper proposes a new PCA recognition in which database of objects can be detected under different illuminations between input images and the model images.

  • Network anomaly detection system plays an essential role in detecting network anomaly and ensuring network security. Anomaly detection system based machine learning has become an increasingly popular solution. However, due to the unbalance and high-dimension characteristics of network traffic, the existing methods unable to achieve the excellent performance of high accuracy and low false alarm rate. To address this problem, a new network anomaly detection method based on data balancing and recursive feature addition is proposed. Firstly, data balancing algorithm based on improved KNN outlier detection is designed to select part respective data on each category. Combination optimization about parameters of improved KNN outlier detection is implemented by genetic algorithm. Next, recursive feature addition algorithm based on correlation analysis is proposed to select effective features, in which a cross contingency test is utilized to analyze correlation and obtain a features subset with a strong correlation. Then, random forests model is as the classification model to detection anomaly. Finally, the proposed algorithm is evaluated on benchmark datasets KDD Cup 1999 and UNSW_NB15. The result illustrates the proposed strategies enhance accuracy and recall, and decrease the false alarm rate. Compared with other algorithms, this algorithm still achieves significant effects, especially recall in the small category.

  • For the future prosperity of any society, the sound growth of children is essential. Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurobehavioral disorder which has an impact on social interaction of autistic child and has an undesirable effect on his learning, speaking, and responding skills. These children have over or under sensitivity issues of touching, smelling, and hearing. Its symptoms usually appear in the child of 4- to 11-year-old but parents did not pay attention to it and could not detect it at early stages. The process to diagnose in recent time is clinical sessions that are very time consuming and expensive. To complement the conventional method, machine learning techniques are being used. In this way, it improves the required time and precision for diagnosis. We have applied TFLite model on image based dataset to predict the autism based on facial features of child. Afterwards, various machine learning techniques were trained that includes Logistic Regression, KNN, Gaussian Naïve Bayes, Random Forest and Multi-Layer Perceptron using Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) dataset to improve the accuracy of the ASD detection. On image based dataset, TFLite model shows 80% accuracy and based on AQ dataset, we have achieved 100% accuracy from Logistic Regression and MLP models.

  • In this paper, we implement a system that detects abnormalities in the charging data transmitted from the charger during the charging process of electric vehicles and controls them remotely. Using classification algorithms such as logistic regression, KNN, SVM, and decision trees, to do this, an analysis model is created that judges the data received from the charger as normal and abnormal. In addition, a model is created to determine the cause of the abnormality using the existing charging data based on the analysis of the type of charger abnormality. Finally, it is solved using unsupervised learning method to find new patterns of abnormal data.

  • The chloride diffusion coefficient is a critical indicator for assessing the durability of concrete marine substructures. This study develops a prediction model for the chloride diffusion coefficient using data from concrete bridges located in marine exposure zones (atmospheric, splash, tidal), an aspect that has not been considered in previous studies. Chloride profile data obtained from these bridge substructures were utilized. After data preprocessing, machine learning models, including Random Forest (RF), Gradient Boosting Machine (GBM), and K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), were optimized through hyperparameter tuning. The performance of these models was developed and compared under three different variable sets. The first model uses six variables: water-to-binder (W/B) ratio, cement type, coarse aggregate volume ratio, service life, strength, and exposure environment. The second model excludes the exposure environment, using only the remaining five variables. The third model relies on just three variables: service life, strength, and exposure environment factors that can be obtained from precision safety diagnostics. The results indicate that including the exposure environment significantly enhances model performance for predicting the chloride diffusion coefficient in concrete bridges in marine environments. Additionally, the three variable model demonstrates that effective predictions can be made using only data from precision safety diagnostics.

  • Studies have tried to apply remote sensing technology, a non-destructive survey method, instead of the existing destructive survey, which requires relatively large labor input and a long time to estimate chlorophyll content, which is an important indicator for evaluating the growth of fruit trees. This study was conducted to non-destructively evaluate the chlorophyll content of pear tree leaves using unmanned aerial vehicle-based hyperspectral imagery for two years(2021, 2022). The reflectance of the single bands of the pear tree canopy extracted through image processing was band rationed to minimize unstable radiation effects depending on time changes. The estimation (calibration and validation) models were developed using machine learning algorithms of elastic-net, k-nearest neighbors(KNN), and support vector machine with band ratios as input variables. By comparing the performance of estimation models based on full band ratios, key band ratios that are advantageous for reducing computational costs and improving reproducibility were selected. As a result, for all machine learning models, when calibration of coefficient of determination (R2)≥0.67, root mean squared error (RMSE)≤1.22 ㎍/cm2, relative error (RE)≤17.9% and validation of R2≥0.56, RMSE≤1.41 ㎍/cm2, RE≤20.7% using full band ratios were compared, four key band ratios were selected. There was relatively no significant difference in validation performance between machine learning models. Therefore, the KNN model with the highest calibration performance was used as the standard, and its key band ratios were 710/714, 718/722, 754/758, and 758/762 nm. The performance of calibration showed R2=0.80, RMSE=0.94 ㎍/cm2, RE=13.9%, and validation showed R2=0.57, RMSE=1.40 ㎍/cm2, RE=20.5%. Although the performance results based on validation were not sufficient to estimate the chlorophyll content of pear tree leaves, it is meaningful that key band ratios were selected as a standard for future research. To improve estimation performance, it is necessary to continuously secure additional datasets and improve the estimation model by reproducing it in actual orchards. In future research, it is necessary to continuously secure additional datasets to improve estimation performance, verify the reliability of the selected key band ratios, and upgrade the estimation model to be reproducible in actual orchards.
