  • While content word-based frequency analysis has obvious limitations to intentional deception or irony, KLIWC has evolved into functional word analysis and KrKwic has evolved as a way to visualize co-occurrence frequencies. However, after more than 10 years of development, several issues still need improvement. Therefore, we tried to develop a new psychological language analysis program by analyzing KLIWC and KrKwic. First, the two programs were analyzed. In particular, the morpheme classification of KLIWC and the Korean morpheme analyzer was compared to enhance the functional word analysis function, and the psychological dictionary were analyzed to strengthen the psychological analysis. As a result of the analysis, the Hannanum part-of-speech analyzer was the most subdivided, but KLIWC for personal pronouns and KKMA for endings and endings were more subdivided, suggesting the integrated use of multiple part-of-speech analyzers to strengthen functional word analysis. Second, the research trends of studies that analyzed texts with these programs were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, the two programs were used in various academic fields, including the field of Interdisciplinary Studies. In particular, KrKwic was used a lot for the analysis of papers and reports, and KLIWC was used a lot for the comparative study of the writer's thoughts, emotions, and personality. Based on these results, the necessity and direction of development of a new psychological language analysis program were suggested.

  • Individuals' language use has been hypothesized as a useful tool for the analysis of psychological aspects. This study examined relationships between language use and their subjective well-being, which consists of life satisfaction and feeling about life. For this, 126 college students wrote an essay and responded to the subjective well-being scale. Then we analyzed their writings through KLIWC (Korean Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count) and compared language use between the high and the low groups of subjective well-being. We also examined the relationships between KLIWC factors and the two sub-factors of subjective well being. The results shows that various individual factors of KLIWC reflect participants' subjective well-being and provids preliminary descriptive data on language use and subjective well-being.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore the possibility of measuring advertising effectiveness through the ad evaluation text. The 384 university students were asked to evaluate the positive and negative evaluation ads of high and low involvement products by self-report method and to write ad evaluation text online. The written ad evaluation text were analyzed by KLIWC and to examine the difference between the comment of positive and negative advertising. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, there were differences between positive and negative ads in 17 psychosocial variables. Second, there were differences between positive and negative ads in 9 linguistic variables. Third, there was a significant correlation between KLIWC variables(Positive & negative emotions, inhibition, conviction, physical condition & function and sleep/dreams) and advertising effect variables. This study suggests that the advertising evaluation comment reflects the consumer's psychological reaction to advertising and the possibility of measuring the advertising effectiveness using advertising evaluation text.

  • The purpose of this study is to collect the psychological responses that occur while watching TV home shopping ads in verbal form, and explore the possibility of measuring the effectiveness of TV home shopping ads using linguistic analysis. The psychological responses during watching positive and negative ads of participants(40 housewives and female college students) were collected in a linguistic form using a think aloud and self-report measurement. It was analyzed by KLIWC, a Korean language analysis program. As a result of the analysis, there was a difference in psychosocial variables as well as linguistic variables between positive and negative evaluation ads. Also, various variables of KLIWC were correlated with the variables of advertising effectiveness (purchase stimulus, ad attitude, product attitude, purchase intention) and advertising response variables. This suggests the possibility of constructing a psychological response profile and measurement of advertising effectiveness using language analysis.

This research was condoned to develope a Korean text analysis program(KLIWC) based on the English text analysis program, LIWC(Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count), and the program reflects the Korean linguistic characteristics and culture that is related with language. We made it possible to analyze agglutinative phrase of many morphemes by linguistic tagging, and basic form dictionary and inflection rule were built. In addition, the face-saving weeds and emotional words were included as the analysis variables.

Because writings reflect human mental state or trait, analyzing malicious comments, human mental states could be inferred when they write internet news comments. In this study, we analyzed malicious comments of English and Korean speaker using LIWC and KLIWC. As a result, in both English and Korean, malicious comments are commonly more used in sentence, word phrase, morpheme, word phrase per sentence, morpheme per sentence, positive emotion words, and cognitive process words than normal comments, and less used in the third person singular, adjective, anger words, and emotional process words than normal comments. This means people are state that they can not control their feeling such as anger and can not think well when they write news comments. Therefore, when internet comments were written, service provider should consider the way that commenters monitor own writings by themselves and that they prevent the other users from getting close to comments included many negative-emotion words. In other sides, it is discovered that English and Korean malicious comments was discriminated by authenticity. In order to be more objective, gathering data from various point of time is needed.

Unlike the previous studies, this study analyzed both the content word and the functional word related to the psychological phenomenon. In Study 1, six language style indicators such as clout, authenticity, presidentiality, cognitive complexity, femininity, and psychological health were developed. Also, as presidential speeches have been made recently, authenticity, presidentiality, psychological health tended to increase, but cognitive complexity tended to decrease. These tendencies were supported by linear trend analysis. The linguistic differences were distinct not only among individual presidents but also by groups based on the political orientation of the president. In the progressive presidential speech, more clout, cognitive complexity, femininity were observed. In contrast, more authenticity and presidentiality were observed in the conservative presidential speech.
