Agronomic Characteristics and Forage Productivity of Italian Ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) Cutivar (국내개발 및 도입 이탈리안 라이그라스 품종의 생육특성 및 수량성)

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate agronomic characteristics and forage productivity of italian ryegrass cultivars at Seongju in the Kyeongbuk from 2010 to 2012. The experiment was arranged in randomized complete block design with three replications. Italian ryegrass cultivars were seeded on Oct. 12 in 2010 and Oct. 3 in 2011. The early-medium maturing cultivars were harvested on 29 Apr. and the medium late ones were harvested on 4 May in 2011. In 2012, the early-medium cultivars were harvested on 28 Apr. and medium late ones were harvested on 12 May. DM (dry matter) yield of the early-medium maturing cultivars 'Yeonbong3', 'Seongnong', 'Winter Hawk', 'Pride' and 'Kowinnearly' was 9,850, 9,778, 9,486, 9,363 and 9,267 kg/ha and DM yield of those were significantly higher (p<0.05) than other seven cultivars or ones. DM yield of the medium-late maturing cultivars 'Tetragold', 'Hwasan 101', 'Jumbo', 'Sungrazer', 'Master', 'SelectIV' and 'KB Royal' was 9,542, 9,492, 9,103, 8,981, 8,903, 8,870 and 8,681 kg/ha and DM yield of those were higher (p<0.05) than other three. Cold tolerance for 'Hwasan 101' was higher than others, in medium-late maturing cultivars. According to the results obtained from this study, it is suggested that early-medium maturing cultivars would be recommendable for DM production.

  • The purpose of this study is to confirm the possibility of obtaining high grade coal from 57.39% of fixed carbon fine coal. Also, the mineralogical, physical/chemical and liberation characteristics are to be identified to decrease in ash amount, during the pre-processing of clean coal technology. In this study, batch flotation and CPT column flotation proper for the processing of fine particles were used with the variation in kinds and quantity of frother, collector and depressant. Also air flow rate and feeding rates were examined. As a result of batch flotation using 20% of pulp density DMU 101 collector(100 mL/ton), AF65 frother(300 mL/ton), sodium metaphosphate depressant (1 kg/ton), 67.57% of ash rejection and 70.90% of combustible recovery were obtained. The result of CPT column flotation was 85.59% of ash rejection and 88.97% of combustible recovery under the conditions of 5% of pulp density, DMU-101 collector (100 mL/ton), AF65 frother(10 L/ton), SMP depressant(1 kg/ton), wash water(100 mL/min.) and air flow rate(1,200 mL/min.).

Comparison of Growth Characteristics and Forage Productivity Between Italian Ryegrass and Oats Sown in Early Spring (춘파재배시 이탈리안 라이그라스와 귀리의 생육특성 및 생산성 비교)

  • This experiment was carried out to compare the growth characteristics and forage productivity between Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) and Oats (Avena sativa L.) sown in early spring on trial field of Grassland and Forages Division, National Institute of Animal Science, RDA, Cheonan and Jeollanam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services, Naju in 2007 and 2008. Varieties used were Swan and Foothill in early- and late-maturing Oats, and Kospeed and Hwasan 101 in early- and late-maturing Italian ryegrass, respectively. In early-maturing variety, heading date of Swan was 14 May that was earlier one day than that of Kospeed. Plant length of Swan was 92cm that was longer 4cm than that of Kospeed. Average dry matter (DM) yield of 3 trial regions was not significantly different between Kospeed (6,809 kg/ha) and Swan (6,756 kg/ha) but DM yield of Italian ryegrass Hwasan 101 was less 35% than that of Swan. Average total digestible nutrient (TDN) yield of 3 trial regions was not significantly different between Kospeed (4,240 kg/ha) and Swan (4,162 kg/ha). In paddy cultivation of Naju, TDN yield of Kospeed was 4,154 kg/ha that was more 45% than that of Swan. Forage feed value was similar Kospeed to Swan in early maturing variety. Considering TDN yield and feed value of forage, early-maturing variety of Italian ryegrass was effective for spring-sown cultivation and suitable for forage production on paddy in southland of Korea.

Determination of Heavy Metal Contents in Medicinal Herb (유통 한약재의 중금속 함량 조사)

  • Comparative study was performed on heavy metal contents among domestic herbal medicines and imported one. The heavy metal contents in 89 samples of 65 types of herbal medicines were measured by inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and mercury analyzer. The mean values of heavy metal contents (mg/kg) for herbal medicines were as follows: Hg, 0.010 (domestic: 0.010, imported: 0.010); Pb, 0.380 (domestic: 0.311, imported: 0.449); Cd, 0.080 (domestic: 0.101, imported: 0.059); As, 2.085 (domestic: 1.845, imported: 2.324); Mn, 31.564 (domestic: 33.844, imported: 29.283); Zn, 15.436 (domestic: 18.703, imported: 12.168); Cu, 3.406 (domestic: 3.374, imported: 3.437); Fe, 134.944 (domestic: 108.327, imported: 161.561). The measured values of Hg, Pb and Cd of domestic and imported herbal medicines showed lower levels than the recommended levels of those in herbal medicines by WHO/PHARM (Pb : not more than 5 mg/kg, Cd : not more than 0.3 mg/kg). This results will he used as a basic data for the future legislation on the regulation and control of heavy metal contents of herbal medicines.

Analysis of PCBs in Food by Dual Column-HRGC/ECD (Dual Column-HRGC/ECD를 이용한 식품 중 PCBs 오염 실태조사)

  • To determine levels of PCBs in food, beef, pork, chicken, egg, mackerel, yellow croaker, anchovy, common squid and little neck clam were chosen and collected at markets in Seoul, Busan and Kwangju. Among 209 PCB congeners, 7 congeners (#28, #52, #101, #118, #138, #153 and #180) were selected as target compounds that were known as indicator congeners. Samples were homogenized, treated in alkali solution for 1 hour, and extracted with organic solvents. After extraction, extracts were cleaned up by sulfuric acid, purified on silica gel column chromatography, analyzed by dual column-HRGC/ECD and then confirmed by HRGC/MSD. As results, PCBs were detected in fish samples ranged from 0.0002 to 0.001 mg/kg. Both PCB #101 and PCB #118 were the major contributors among 7 congeners.

Elutriation and Production of Fines in a Fluidized Bed Coal Combustor (석탄유동층연소로에서 분진 발생 및 배출 특성)

  • The effects of coal type and mixing fraction of coal on attrition and elutriation were studied in a 15. 5cm diameter fluidized bed coal combustor. The domestic low-grade anthracite coal with heating value 2010kcal/kg and the imported bituminous coal from Australia with heating value of 6520kcal/kg were used as coal sample. It was found from the experimental that the elutriation rate inclosed with an increseing anthracite mixing fraction. The size of elutriated particle had a very wide distribution was found in this experiment. The mean size of elutriated particle increased with decreaseing anthracite mixing fraction.

Analysis of Benzene in Beverages by Headspace-GC/MS (Headspace-GC/MS를 이용한 음료 중 벤젠 분석)

  • A selective analytical method of headspace-GC/MS has been applied to determine levels of benzene in beverages. Food samples were 85 including 2 fruit juices, 6 fruit beverages, 11 carbonated beverages, 55 mixed beverages, and 4 beverage concentrations, and 7 extracted beverages. For phase equilibration of headspace, sample was stirred at $40^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. The oven temperature was $60^{\circ}C$ and elevated to $180^{\circ}C$ at $15^{\circ}C/min$. The internal standard was benzene-d6. The identification was done by the selected target ions such as m/z 51, 77, and 78 and the confirmation was done by the response ratio of m/z 77 to m/z 78 between sample and standard. The overall recoveries were ranged from 91% to 101% and the limit of quantification was $1{\mu}g/kg$. The average level of benzene were $5{\mu}g/kg$ for fruit beverages, $2{\mu}g/kg$ for carbonated beverages, $7{\mu}g/kg$ for mixed beverages and $7{\mu}g/kg$ for extracted beverages.

A Study on bivalves in Yeongil Bay of Gyeongsangbuk-Do Province, Korea (경상북도 영일만에 분포하는 이매패류의 자원조사)

  • Bivalves collected by a dredge in Yeongil Bay of Gyeongsangbuk-Do Province, Korea in May, 2010 and August, 2010 were 2 species including Dostinorbis japonicus and Scapharca broughtonii. The total abundance of bivalves were 1,703 inds. and 140.9 kg. Among them, the abundance of D. japonicus were 1,198 inds. and 76.1 kg. And the abundance of S. broughtonii were 505 inds. and 64.8 kg. The shell length by bivalves species were 25.76-67.88 mm (mean, 58.08 mm) in D. japonicus and 46.82-113.74 mm (mean, 76.86 mm) in S. broughtonii consisting mainly of recruitment group. By regional abundance comparison, the bivalves abundance collected in the outside harbor was 1,332 inds. and 105.4 kg, which was much more than that of the inside harbor indicating 371 inds. and 35.5 kg. In terms of size, the bivalves collected in the outside harbor were 49.49-67.88 mm (mean, 58.47 mm) in D. japonicus and 48.21-113.74 mm (mean, 77.48 mm) in S. broughtonii, which were larger than those of the inside harbor. The yearly biomass of the main commercial target species, S. broughtonii by swept area method (SAM) was estimated up to 242.1 tons. However, considering the regional differences of bivalves between the inside harbor and the outside harbor by abundance and size comparison, it might have been overfished to bivalves in the inside harbor.

Experimental Study on the Antidepressant Effect of Sam-Jeong-Hwan (삼정환(三精九)의 항우울 효과에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the protective effects of Sam-Jeong-Hwan(SJH) on the animal model of depression induced immobilization stress. Method: The subject were divided into 4 groups(l. normal 2. saline solution administered during immobilization stress treatment 3. SJH of 100mg/kg administered 4. BKJ of 400mg/kg administered). Immobilization stress was treated for 1 hours on day. During 2 days of immobilization stress treatment, they were executed forced swimming test, passive avoidance test, elevated plus maze test. Corticosterone and ACTH in blood were measured. Results: In forced swimming test, SJH of 400mg/kg group showed decreased immobilization. In passive avoidance test, SJH of 400mg/kg group showed increased learning execution. In EPM test, SJH of 400mg/kg group showed decreased anxiety. In locomotor activity test, SJH groups showed significantly increased locomotor activity. Stress group showed significantly increase in serum level of corticosterone, SJH of 400mg/kg group showed decreased serum level of corticosterone. Stress group showed significantly increase in serum level of ACTH, SJH of 400mg/kg group showed decreased serum level of ACTH. Conclusion: These results suggest that Sam-Jeong-Hwan(SJH) is effective in the treatment of depression.
