  • The research topics of more than 1,900 wind energy papers registered in the Korean Journal Citation Index (KCI) were modeled into 25 topics using latent directory allocation (LDA), and their consistency was cross-validated through principal component analysis (PCA) of the document word matrix. Key research topics in the wind energy field were identified as "offshore, wind farm," "blade, design," "generator, voltage, control," 'dynamic, load, noise," and "performance test." As a new method to determine the similarity between research topics in journals, a systematic evaluation method was proposed to analyze the correlation between topics by constructing a journal-topic matrix (JTM) and clustering them based on topic similarity between journals. By evaluating 24 journals that published more than 20 wind energy papers, it was confirmed that they were classified into meaningful clusters of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, marine engineering, and renewable energy. It is expected that the proposed systematic method can be applied to the evaluation of the specificity of subsequent journals.

  • In the past decade, East Asian Research has received attention from researchers as well as in South Korea society-at-large. The broad category of East Asian Research includes various disciplinary fields, such as "history, economics, and politics; however, few studies have used quantitative analysis to explore its development. In this paper, we used network analysis to identify the disciplines and active research areas, focusing on productivity, collaboration patterns, and citation networks of East Asian Research in South Korea. For this study, 6,646 journal publications related with East Asian Research and indexed by KCI (Korean Citation Index) during the 10-year period of 2004-2013 were considered. Results show that East Asian Research was led during this period by sole-researchers, rather than interdisciplinary studies. Moreover, a co-institution network represents active institutions with a high degree and collaborative centrality. In terms of journal-journal citation networks, journals belonging to both "history" and "Korean literature" disciplines were dominant.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the meaning and lexical morpheme of author keywords of humanities, social sciences, and art and sport in the Korea Ciation Index (KCI) and to propose a conceptual taxonomy of the author keywords. Four top-level concept categories such as 'Substance, Abstraction, General/Common, and Object' are replaced by seven more concrete categories such as 'object, action/function, property, theory/method, format/framework, general/common, and Instance'. In the middle and lower-level concept categories, the hierarchical structure is simplified and the unbalance of term distribution is reduced by creating, subdivision, integration, elimination, and movement of the categories. The result of the test based on the STNet shows that the replaced taxonomy of concept categories has the effects of making the term allocation more balanced and properties of terms more detailed.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the characteristics of research collaborations in the field of LIS. While there are several studies under the unit of analysis of country, there are only a few studies under the unit of analysis of institution in LIS field. For this analysis, we selected eight journals in the KCI (Korea Citation Index) web site, which correspond to the field of LIS through subject classification. The collaborative indices, Collaborative Coefficient, Co-Authorship Index, Local Collaborative Index (LCI), Domestic Collaborative Index (DCI) allowed us to comparatively analyze institutional collaboration patterns in LIS field. In the case of Chung-Ang University, Yonsei University, and Ewha Womans University, collaborative research among professors, graduate students, and professors reflected the fact that collaborations among universities are often performed with professors. In the case of KISTI, which showed a very high index value, the characteristics of project-based research are reflected in the research collaboration pattern.

  • Citation frequency is an important factor in evaluating journal quality and is used as a measure of journal impact. The citation index of a paper plays an important role in linking papers with groups of other academic papers, forming a huge and complex network. This study examines the intellectual structure of apparel research through the bibliometric citation analysis of The Research Journal of the Costume Culture (RJCC). In order to analyze the changes in the intellectual structure of the RJCC, we used the Korea Citation Index's (KCI) data (highly citing journals and highly cited journals). The NodeXL, a social network analysis tool, was used to examine the connection structure between journals. In order to identify the academic influence of the RJCC, we used the KCI journal citation index. Our findings indicate that the RJCC has a high centrality index among the clothing-oriented journals in the same life sciences field. A look at the journals citing the RJCC and the journals cited within the RJCC also showed that more journals of diverse fields have been recently linked through their citations. This suggests that a convergence of interdisciplinary research is underway in the field of clothing. As a result of examining international journals cited in the RJCC, it was confirmed that they were cited in prominent international journals in various fields.

  • This study aims to develope a scholarly metadata information system based on conceptual elements of text structure of Korean studies research articles and to identify the applicability of text structure based metadata as compared with the existing similar system. For the study, we constructed a database(Korean Studies Metadata Database, KMD) with text structure based on metadata of Korean Studies journal articles selected from the Korea Citation Index(KCI). Then we verified differences between KCI system and KMD system through search results using same keywords. As a result, KMD system shows the search results which meet the users' intention of searching more efficiently in comparison with the KCI system. In other words, even if keyword combinations and conditional expressions of searching execution are same, KMD system can directly present the content of research purposes, research data, and spatial-temporal contexts of research et cetera as search results through the search procedure.

  • A new technique for revealing the research fronts of a interdisciplinary discipline has been developed. Citation image makers profiling (CIMP) determines the relationships between research papers with the title words of the citing documents. We adapted this new technique to analyze the research fronts and hot topics in women's studies of Korea. By Korean Citation Index (KCI) data in 2015, we selected 148 papers cited more than 9 times as the core documents of women's studies. Analysis of intellectual structure using citation image makers profiling was performed with the 148 core documents and those citing papers. Document co-citation analysis was hindered by citation data sparsity, while CIMP method successfully revealed the structure of research fronts of Korean women's studies including 2 divisions and 6 subdivisions. The CIMP method suggested in this study has good potential to discover the characteristics of research fronts of interdisciplinary research domains.
