Growth and Development of the Academic Societies and Animal Production in Korea, China and Asia over the Last 50 Years

  • The Korean Society of Animal Science (KSAS) was officially born on October 8, 1956 under the leadership of Professor Sang W. Yun of Seoul National University, Seoul, Korea a few years after the end of the Korean War. At that time, there were 0.9 million Korean native cattle, 1.3 million pigs and 8.9 million chickens in Korea. Per capita income for Korea (US$ 66) or China (US$ 59) was about 10% of Asian's average income (US$ 513) in 1956. Korea produced less than 0.2 million M/T of formula feed and consumed 6.1 kg/person/year of animal products. One could say that Korea was an example of an under-developed country in the world. Although the first issue of the Proceedings of the KSAS was published on October 28, 1958, regular quarterly journals of the KSAS were not published until March 1, 1969. Major activities other than publishing its journal were: holding an annual meeting and/or scientific forum at national or international level. The Asian-Australasian Association of Animal Production Societies (AAAP) was founded on September 1, 1980 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia with founding members from Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, NZ, Philippines and Thailand. Thirteen AAAP Animal Science Congresses have been held in its 28 year history. Hosting countries were Malaysia (1980), Philippines (1982), Korea (1985), NZ (1987), Taiwan (1990), Thailand (1992), Indonesia (1994), Japan (1996), Australia (2000), India (2002), Malaysia (2004), Korea (2006) and Vietnam(2008). In 1988, significant progress of the AAAP was made by creating an official English journal of the AAAP entitled "Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences (AJAS)" under the initiative of the KSAS. This journal is now published monthly and distributed to more than 50 countries in the AAAP region and the world. It should be mentioned that the KSAS was able to successfully host the $3^{rd}$ AAAP Animal Science Congress in 1985 and the 12th in 2006, as well as the $8^{th}$ WCAP in 1998. During the last 50 years of KSAS history, per capita income of Korea increased to US$ 17,690 (268 fold), formula feed production increased to 15 million M/T (97 fold) and consumption of animal products increased to 105 kg/person/year (17 fold). Cattle, pig and chicken numbers also increased to 2.5 million (2.8 fold), 9 million (7.4 fold) and 119 million (13 fold). This trend was also found for China and Asia, even if the rate of growth was slightly lower than that of Korea. It is expected that a similar rate of growth in economics, animal numbers, formula feed production and animal protein intake will likely be achieved by other Asian countries in the $21^{st}$ century with somewhat lower rate of development than that of Korea.

초등학교 방과후 과학관련 특기적성 운영 실태 조사 - 경기지역 초등학교 학부모 인식을 중심으로 (Survey on Status of Operation of After-School Science Activities in Elementary School - Focus on Elementary School Parents' Perception in Gyeonggi Province)

  • 본 연구는 초등학교 방과후 과학관련 특기적성 교육활동 운영 실태를 파악하고 특기적성 과학실험에 공개수업에 참여한 학부모를 대상으로 프로그램에 대한 인식을 조사하여 초등학교 방과후 과학관련 특기적성 교육활동이 성공적으로 운영될 수 있는 활성화 방안을 제시하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 이를 위해 경기도 관내 809개 초등학교 방과후 과학관련 특기적성 교육활동 안내장을 수합해 강좌명, 수강료, 재료비, 수업시수의 운영 실태를 조사하였고, 공개수업에 참여한 학부모 36명을 대상으로 프로그램에 대한 인식을 설문지 결과로 분석했다. 인식조사는 설문지를 사용하였는데, 이는 2013년도 한국과학창의재단 생활과학교실 고객만족도 설문지를 수정 보완하여 초안을 개발하였고, 과학교육 관련 교수 1인과 과학교육 관련 석사 과정 12인에게 자문을 구하여 설문 내용의 타당성 및 용어 등에 대한 의견을 얻어 최종 설문지를 완성한 것이다. 본 연구에서 수집된 자료는 통계 프로그램을 이용하여 분석했다. 연구 결과를 종합해 보면, 초등학교 방과후 과학관련 특기적성 교육활동이 활성화되기 위한 방안을 다음과 같이 제시할 수 있다. 첫째, 초등학교 방과후 과학관련 특기적성 교육활동이 활성화될 수 있도록 하기 위해서는 교육 수요자(학부모)의 요구를 꾸준히 파악하고 반영해야 한다. 둘째, 초등학교 방과후 과학관련 특기적성 교육활동이 지속적으로 활성화되기 위해서는 교육 수요자(학부모)의 요구와 선택을 반영한 과학프로그램이 개발되어야 한다.

A Systematic Approach Of Construction Management Based On Last Planner System And Its Implementation In The Construction Industry

  • The Last PlannerSystem (LPS) has been implemented on construction projects to increase work flow reliability, a precondition for project performance againstproductivity and progress targets. The LPS encompasses four tiers of planning processes:master scheduling, phase scheduling, lookahead planning, and commitment / weeklywork planning. This research highlights deficiencies in the current implementation of LPS including poor lookahead planning which results in poor linkage between weeklywork plans and the master schedule. This poor linkage undetermines the ability of theweekly work planning process to select for execution tasks that are critical to projectsuccess. As a result, percent plan complete (PPC) becomes a weak indicator of project progress. The purpose of this research is to improve lookahead planning (the bridgebetween weekly work planning and master scheduling), improve PPC, and improve theselection of tasks that are critical to project success by increasing the link betweenShould, Can, Will, and Did (components of the LPS), thereby rendering PPC a betterindicator of project progress. The research employs the case study research method to describe deficiencies inthe current implementation of the LPS and suggest guidelines for a better application ofLPS in general and lookahead planning in particular. It then introduces an analyticalsimulation model to analyze the lookahead planning process. This is done by examining the impact on PPC of increasing two lookahead planning performance metrics: tasksanticipated (TA) and tasks made ready (TMR). Finally, the research investigates theimportance of the lookahead planning functions: identification and removal ofconstraints, task breakdown, and operations design.The research findings confirm the positive impact of improving lookaheadplanning (i.e., TA and TMR) on PPC. It also recognizes the need to perform lookaheadplanning differently for three types of work involving different levels of uncertainty:stable work, medium uncertainty work, and highly emergent work.The research confirms the LPS rules for practice and specifically the need to planin greater detail as time gets closer to performing the work. It highlights the role of LPSas a production system that incorporates deliberate planning (predetermined andoptimized) and situated planning (flexible and adaptive). Finally, the research presents recommendations for production planningimprovements in three areas: process related, (suggesting guidelines for practice),technical, (highlighting issues with current software programs and advocating theinclusion of collaborative planning capability), and organizational improvements(suggesting transitional steps when applying the LPS).

의료 서비스에 대한 만족도 측정 도구의 개발 (The Development of Satisfaction Tool to Health Care Services - focused on Patients and their families -)

  • Background : In these days, the health care organizations have concerned about customer-centered care in order to empower the competitiveness on the health care markets. The departments working for quality management of the hospitals have used health care quality indicators in terms of medical areas as well as service areas of the hospitals. However, there were insufficient efforts to develop the credible measurement to seek the customers' needs, their expectations and their satisfaction levels related to health care services because various kinds of challenges were in the process of scale development to measure customers' satisfaction in health care. The purpose of this study was to develop the satisfaction scale to health care services in a Korea health care organization and to test its tool with validity and reliability. Method : The concept of this tool was acceptability that one of the components of health care quality defined by Donabedian. Acceptability has the five dimensions of concept: Accessibility; Patient-Practitioner Relations; Amenities; Patient Preferences as to the effects of care; and Patient Preferences as to the costs of care. The Satisfaction Tool to Health Care Services was reviewed by expert panel with five researchers, including hospital managers and a professor related to quality management of the hospitals. As a result, the content validity index was .84 in the outpatient satisfaction tool. The inpatient satisfaction tool had .87 of the content validity index. The Satisfaction Tools to Health Care Services finally consisted of 44 items for outpatients/their families and of 60 items for inpatients/their families. Study subjects of the construct validity test were 479 outpatients/their families and 561 inpatients/their families who visited or admitted at a University hospital from July 1, 1996 through August 10, 1996. The data were examined by Factor Analysis with SPSS. Result : The items of Satisfaction tools for outpatients/their families were categorized by eleven factors with eigenvalue greater than 1.0 accounting for 64.2 percent of the variation in item scores. Also, the items of inpatient tool had eleven factors with eigenvalue greater than 1.0 accounting for 60.3 percent of the variation in item scores. The reliability of overall scale were .95 and .96 for the outpatients/their families satisfaction scores and inpatient/their families satisfaction scores. The internal consistency reliability with eleven factors was ranged from .30 to .94 for inpatients/their families. The Satisfaction Tool with eleven factors for inpatients/their families had internal consistency reliability ranged from .53 to .89. Conclusion : The Satisfaction Tools to Health Care Services focused on outpatients/their families and inpatients/their families developed in this study had a high reliability and the strong evidence of content validity and construct validity based on quality concept. Therefore, this tool would be utilized as a credible quality indicator of health care services to assess the quality problems and to monitor the quality improvement activities in Korean Health Care Organizations.

마이크로파이넨스 성공요인 연구 : 그라민 은행 사례 (Evaluating the Success Factors of Microfinance : A Case Study of Grameen Bank)

  • 마이크로파이넨스 지원정책은 경제성장 및 빈곤완화를 위한 정책적 도구로 활용되고 있다. 이러한 중요성에 따라 그간 학계에서도 마이크로 파이넨스에 대한 이론적, 사례적 연구를 수행하여 왔다. 그러나, 그간의 연구들은 마이크로파이넨스에 대한 개념적 접근과 개별적 특성에 초점을 맞추어 온 관계로 이론과 프랙티스의 종합적 논의가 부족했고, 특히 마이크로파이넨스 시스템의 한계에 대해서는 관심이 미흡하였다. 이러한 문제의식에 따라 본 연구에서는 마이크로파이넨스의 대표적 사례인 방글라데시 그라민 은행의 성공 및 내재적 한계를 그간의 학술문헌과 최신 데이터를 이용하여 종합적으로 분석하였다. 주요 내용을 요약하면 다음과 같다. 그라민 은행의 대출제도는 일반 상업은행과는 반대의 형태로 운영되어 대출자의 자산이 많을수록 대출받는 금액이 큰 일반 상업은행과 달리, 그라민 은행은 대출자의 자산이나 소득이 적을수록 더 많은 대출이 가능하도록 설계되어 있다. 둘째, 그라민 은행의 성공은 혁신, 엄격한 감시통제 구조, 적응 및 학습, 인센티브 시스템 등의 복합적 요소의 결합에 의해서 가능하였다. 반면 그라민 은행 역시 금융시스템의 한 형태인 관계로 신용리크스는 내재적 리스크로 작용하고 있으며 빈곤 문제 해결에 대해 과대포장되었다는 비판도 제기된다. 그러나 분명한 것은 마이크로파이넨스 제도가 제도권 금융기관에서 자금을 융통하기 어려운 빈곤층의 금융수단으로서 작동해 왔으며, 지역사회의 빈곤문제는 물론 경제적 가치창출의 도구로서 기여한 것도 분명해 보인다. 향후 마이크로파이넨스의 건전성을 높이고, 대출자의 자립을 지원하기 위해서는 단순 대출에 머물지 않고 대출자에 대한 자문과 사업중계 등의 부가적 서비스를 제공하는 것도 고려할 사항이다.

수업에 대한 교수의 자기평가와 학생평가의 비교를 통한 공과대학 수업개선 방안 연구 (A Study on Suggesting Directions for Course Improvement at College of Engineering Based on Comparison of Instructors' Self Evaluation and Students' Evaluation of Courses)

  • The purpose of this study is to explore directions for improvement of teaching at college of engineering based on analysis of differences from course evaluation of students and instructors. Data was collected from 86 instructors' ratings on courses and their 3004 students' ratings on courses at college of engineering in a two-year, a three-year college and a University from 2010 to 2013. The results of the survey indicate significant differences in the statistics from the several questions between the instructors and the students as well as between the course in a two-year, a three-year college and in a University. First, instructors' self evaluation of the course is higher than students' satisfaction ratings of the course on the average. Instructors' self evaluation are high on the questions 'The subject was proper for the course', 'The course provided the latest theory and trend of the field', and 'Fairness and objectivity about the exams and the assignments'. Also, the difference between Instructors and students on the questions is significant in the statistics. The professor must make sure that students know well how to organize the course content and the method for feedback to test result and homework. Second, instructors have higher satisfaction ratings on the six questions and students have higher satisfaction ratings on the one question('Make students participate in the class effectively') at a two-year and a three-year college. However, students have higher satisfaction ratings on the three questions('Make students participate in the class effectively', 'Concern about students' learning process', and 'Use of E-learning and media equipments') and instructors have higher satisfaction ratings on the one question. It means instructors at a University feel pressure on a teaching and they are unsatisfied with their teaching skills. Third, the result of comparing six parts of the questions shows that students' satisfaction ratings are higher on 'Students participation' and 'Application of media equipments' parts whereas instructors' self evaluation are higher on 'Exams and assignments' part. Fourth, the question 'Make students participate in the class effectively' is significant in statistic based on comparison of instructors and students, and comparison of in a college and a University. Students' satisfaction ratings are higher than instructors' self evaluation.

DEA분석을 통한 국내 수도권 주요 대학병원의 효율성 분석 (An Analysis of Efficiency in Major University Hospitals in Domestically Capital Area Through DEA Analysis)

  • This study analyzed efficiency by utilizing DEA analytical technique centering on materials for 2009 of 20 major university hospitals in capital area. Input variables were utilized professor & full-time doctor, resident, nurse & number of bed hospitals. Output variables were analyzed by dividing number of annual outpatients & number of annual inpatients, and annually total outpatient profit & inpatient profit into a model of the standard for number of patients and the standard for medical profit. DEA analysis was elicited efficiency score by applying CCR, BCC, BFG, scale profit, and SE model. Through t-test after eliciting efficiency score, the implications were suggested by comparing efficiency between DMU in Seoul and DMU in capital area, by comparing between high-class general hospitals and general hospitals, and by comparing between high-class general hospitals in Seoul and 5 big hospitals. As a result of analysis, the major university hospitals in capital area showed high efficiency as a whole close to "1," but indicated low efficiency relatively in CCR field. Thus, the expansion in scale within capital area was indicated to reach the limit. Second, in a model of analyzing the standard for number of patients, the medical institutions, which are being operated efficiently, were indicated to be 10 DMUs. In the standard for medical profit, 12 DMUs were analyzed to be operated efficiently. Third, the efficiency in general hospital was higher than high-class general hospital. Thus, the efficiency of operation was indicated to be more important than scale. Also, large high-class hospitals(big 5) where are located in downtown Seoul showed the higher efficiency than other general high-class general hospitals, but were indicating very low efficiency in some DMUs. Fourth, as a result of generalizing and evaluating the number of patients and the medical profit, the efficient DMU was indicated to be more when analyzing on the basis of medical profit than the standard for number of patients. Thus, major university hospitals in capital area were indicated to make more effort for section in medical profit. Based on the analytical results of efficiency, a strategy for reinforcing efficiency in inefficient DMU was indicated to be needed a strategy of creating customers for promoting number of patients and a strategy for making operation efficient for increasing profitability.

교육서비스수출 촉진을 위한 한국 대학교육 평가요인에 관한 연구: 중국인 유학생 관점에서 (A Study on the Evaluation Factors on Korean University Education for Promoting Educational Service Export from the Perspective of Chinese Student in Korea)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 한국의 교육서비스 수출활성화를 위해 대학교육 서비스품질의 평가요인과 속성을 도출하고 중국인 유학생들을 대상으로 각 요인들의 중요도와 만족도에 대해 어떻게 인식하는지를 실증 조사하였다. 본 연구에서는 다음과 4가지 연구문제를 제시하였다. 첫째, 대학교육 서비스품질 요인의 중요도 평가에 국립대 재학 유학생과 사립대 유학생간에 차이가 존재하는가? 둘째, 대학교육 서비스 품질 만족도에서 국립대 재학 유학생과 사립대 유학생간에 차이가 존재하는가? 셋째, 대학교육서비스 품질요인의 중요도 평가와 만족도 평가 간에 차이가 존재하는가? 넷째, 한국 대학교육 서비스품질 평가요인의 전반적 한국 대학교육서비스품질 만족에 미치는 상대적 영향력은 어떻게 다른가? 검증결과, 첫째, 국립대와 사립대 중국인 유학생들의 대학교육 서비스품질 중요도평가에 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 품질만족도에서 관계복지요인에서만 국립대와 사립대 간의 만족도 차이가 나타났다. 셋째, 국립대와 사립대 모두 서비스품질요인 중요도에 비해 실제 만족하는 정도와는 1% 유의 수준에서 매우 유의적인 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 강의요인과 교육시설요인만이 대학의 전반적 교육서비스 품질 평가요인 만족에 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 전반적 만족도에 대한 영향력은 강의요인이 교육시설보다 더 컸다. 본 연구의 결과는 대학당국이 외국학생 유치전략 수립 시교육서비스와 관련된 품질차원들을 중심으로 외국인 유학생을 위해서 적절한 시스템과 적절한 방안을 세워야 한다는 점을 시사한다.

Dielectric Properties of $Ta_2O_{5-X}$ Thin Films with Buffer Layers

  • The present study describe the electrical performance of amorphous T $a_2$ $O_{5-X}$ fabricated on the buffer layers Ti and Ti $O_2$. T $a_2$ $O_{5-X}$ thin films were grown on the Ti and Ti $O_2$ layers as a capacitor layer using reactive sputtering method. The X-ray pattern analysis indicated that the two as-deposited films were amorphous and the amorphous state was kept stable on the RTA(rapid thermal annealing) at even $700^{\circ}C$. Measurements of dielectric properties of the reactive sputtered T $a_2$ $O_{5-X}$ thin films fabricated in two simple MIS(metal insulator semiconductor), structures, (Cu/T $a_2$ $O_{5}$ Ti/Si and CuT $a_2$ $O_{5}$ Ti $O_2$Si) show that the amorphous T $a_2$ $O_{5}$ grown on Ti showed high dielectric constant (23~39) and high leakage current density(10$^{-3}$ ~10$^{-4}$ (A/$\textrm{cm}^2$)), whereas relatively low dielectric constant (~15) and tow leakage current density(10$^{-9}$ ~10$^{-10}$ (A/$\textrm{cm}^2$)) were observed in the amorphous T $a_2$ $O_{5}$ deposited on the Ti $O_2$ layer. The electrical behaviors of the T $a_2$ $O^{5}$ thin films were attributed to the contribution of Ti- $O_2$ and the compositionally gradient Ta-Ti-0, being the low dielectric layer and high leakage current barrier. In additional, The T $a_2$ $O_{5}$ Ti $O_2$ thin films exhibited dominant conduction mechanism contributed by the Poole-Frenkel emission at high electric field. In the case of T $a_2$ $O_{5}$ Ti $O_2$ thin films were related to the diffusion of Ta, Ti and O, followed by the creation of vacancies, in the rapid thermal treated thin films.films.

논문의 주저자 결정에 미치는 영향 (Effect of The First Authors Determine to Paper)

  • 본 연구는 2010년 9월부터 2010년 12월까지 치위생학 교육자 171명을 대상으로 연구윤리의 내용 중 저자순서 및 저자범위 결정에 대한 인식과 경험을 조사하고 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 본인연구의 저자 결정자가 누구냐는 질문에 55.6%의 과반수 이상이 '지도교수'라고 응답했으며, 저자결정의 경험도에서 내 연구에 참여하지 않았음에도 다른 사람을 공저자로 등재시킨 경험이 있느냐는 질문에 68.4%가 '그렇다'라고 가장 높게 응답했다. 2. 저자의 범위 및 순서결정 인식의 4점 척도 조사결과, '결과해석이나 중요한 정보를 기여한 사람이 제 1저자가 되는 것은 아니다' $2.81{\pm}.485$로 가장 높게 나타났으며, '초벌 번역을 한 사람에게는 공동저자의 자격이 있다'에 대해서는 $2.60{\pm}.538$로 가장 낮게 조사 되었다. 3. 인구사회학적 특성과 저자자격 인식의 연관성 중 통계적으로 가장 유의하게 나온 항목은 주저자로서의 논문편수였으며, 이 중 주저자로서의 9-14편의 논문을 갖고 있는 응답자에서 '데이터를 모으고 기록하며 문헌을 살피는 일을 도운 학생은 저자자격이 있다'와 '초벌 번역을 한 사람에게는 공동저자의 자격이 있다' 에서 각각 $2.89{\pm}.315$, $2.79{\pm}.419$로 가장 높게 조사돼 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다(p<0.05). 4. 저자자격 인식간의 관련 변인간의 상관관계를 분석한 결과, 모두 정의 상관관계로 나타났으며, 이 중 '데이터를 모으고 기록하며 문헌을 살피는 일을 도운 학생도 저자자격이 있다'와 '초벌번역을 한 사람에게는 공동저자의 자격이 있다'가 가장 높은 상관관계(r=.433)로 조사돼 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다(p<0.01). 결론적으로 연구자간의 갈등을 줄이기 위해서는 저자결정에 대한 기준을 설정하고 이를 교육하는 것이 시급할 것으로 사료된다. 또한 그 과정에서 당사자들의 논의가 중요하고 이러한 논의와 합의 과정을 통해 연구자간의 갈등이 생기지 않도록 하는 것이 최선의 방법이라고 판단된다.
