  • The surveillance system has been developed to be intelligent which can judge and cope by itself using human recognition technique. The existing face recognition is excellent at a short distance but recognition rate is reduced at a long distance. In this paper, we analyze the performance of face recognition according to interpolation and face recognition algorithm in face recognition using the multiple distance face images to training. we use the nearest neighbor, bilinear, bicubic, Lanczos3 interpolations to interpolate face image and PCA and LDA to face recognition. The experimental results show that LDA-based face recognition with bilinear interpolation provides performance in face recognition.

  • The government is making great efforts to prevent crimes such as missing children by using public CCTVs. However, there is a shortage of operating manpower, weakening of concentration due to long-term concentration, and difficulty in tracking. In addition, applying real-time object search, re-identification, and tracking through a deep learning algorithm showed a phenomenon of increased parameters and insufficient memory for speed reduction due to complex network analysis. In this paper, we designed the network to improve speed and save memory through the application of Yolo v4, which can recognize real-time objects, and the application of Batch and TensorRT technology. In this thesis, based on the research on these advanced algorithms, OSNet re-ranking and K-reciprocal nearest neighbor for re-identification, Jaccard distance dissimilarity measurement algorithm for correlation, etc. are developed and used in the solution of CCTV national safety identification and tracking system. As a result, we propose a solution that can track objects by recognizing and re-identification objects in real-time within situation of a Korean public multi-CCTV environment through a set of algorithm combinations.

  • The presence of excavations or cavities beneath the foundations of a building can have a significant impact on their stability and cause extensive damage. Traditional methods for calculating the bearing capacity and subsidence of foundations over cavities can be complex and time-consuming, particularly when dealing with conditions that vary. In such situations, machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) techniques provide effective alternatives. This study concentrates on constructing a prediction model based on the performance of ML and DL algorithms that can be applied in real-world settings. The efficacy of eight algorithms, including Regression Analysis, k-Nearest Neighbor, Decision Tree, Random Forest, Multivariate Regression Spline, Artificial Neural Network, and Deep Neural Network, was evaluated. Using a Python-assisted automation technique integrated with the PLAXIS 2D platform, a dataset containing 272 cases with eight input parameters and one target variable was generated. In general, the DL model performed better than the ML models, and all models, except the regression models, attained outstanding results with an R2 greater than 0.90. These models can also be used as surrogate models in reliability analysis to evaluate failure risks and probabilities.

  • In weighted k-nearest neighbor (WkNN)-based Fingerprinting positioning step, a process of comparing the requested positioning signal with signal information for each reference point stored in the fingerprint DB is performed. At this time, the higher the number of matched base station identifiers, the higher the possibility that the terminal exists in the corresponding location, and in fact, an additional weight is added to the location in proportion to the number of matching base stations. On the other hand, if the matching number of base stations is small, the selected candidate reference point has high dependence on the similarity value of the signal. But one problem arises here. The positioning signal can be compared with the repeater signal in the signal information stored on the DB, and the corresponding reference point can be selected as a candidate location. The selected reference point is likely to be an outlier, and if a certain weight is applied to the corresponding location, the error of the estimated location information increases. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a WkNN technique including an outlier removal function. To this end, it is first determined whether the repeater signal is included in the DB information of the matched base station. If the reference point for the repeater signal is selected as the candidate position, the reference position corresponding to the outlier is removed based on the clustering technique. The performance of the proposed technique is verified through data acquired in Seocho 1 and 2 dongs in Seoul.

  • This study suggests the assessment technique for climate change effect on drought in Korea based on the AR4 SRES A2 scenario reported in IPCC fourth assessment report in 2007. IPCC provides monthly outputs of 24 climate models through the DDC. One of the models is BCM2 model which was developed at BCCR in Norway and NCEP data is used for downscaling. The K-NN(K-Nearest Neighbor) and ANN(Artificial Neural Network) are selected as downscaling technique to downscale the temperature and precipitation at Seoul station in Korea. K-NN could downscale both temperature and precipitation well. ANN made a good result for temperature, but it gave a divergence result in precipitation. Finally, SPI of Seoul station is computed to evaluate the effect of climate change on drought. BCM2 predicted that temperature will increase and drought severity will increase because of the increased drought spell at Seoul station.

  • The increased use of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUV) has led to the development of alternative navigational methods that do not employ acoustic beacons and dead reckoning sensors. This paper describes a simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) scheme that uses range sonars mounted on a small UUV. A SLAM scheme is an alternative navigation method for measuring the environment through which the vehicle is passing and providing the relative position of the UUV. A technique for a SLAM algorithm that uses several ranging sonars is presented. This technique utilizes an unscented Kalman filter to estimate the locations of the UUV and surrounding objects. In order to work efficiently, the nearest neighbor standard filter is introduced as the data association algorithm in the SLAM for associating the stored targets returned by the sonar at each time step. The proposed SLAM algorithm was tested by experiments under various three degrees of freedom motion conditions. The results of these experiments showed that the proposed SLAM algorithm was capable of estimating the position of the UUV and the surrounding objects and demonstrated that the algorithm will perform well in various environments.

  • Carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) cable has good mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. However, the anchorage of CFRP cable is a big issue due to the anisotropic property of CFRP material. In this article, a high-efficient bonding anchorage with novel configuration is developed for CFRP cables. The acoustic emission (AE) technique is employed to evaluate the performance of anchorage in the fatigue test and post-fatigue ultimate bearing capacity test. The obtained AE signals are analyzed by using a combination of unsupervised K-means clustering and supervised K-nearest neighbor classification (K-NN) for quantifying the performance of the anchorage and damage evolutions. An AE feature vector (including both frequency and energy characteristics of AE signal) for clustering analysis is proposed and the under-sampling approaches are employed to regress the influence of the imbalanced classes distribution in AE dataset for improving clustering quality. The results indicate that four classes exist in AE dataset, which correspond to the shear deformation of potting compound, matrix cracking, fiber-matrix debonding and fiber fracture in CFRP bars. The AE intensity released by the deformation of potting compound is very slight during the whole loading process and no obvious premature damage observed in CFRP bars aroused by anchorage effect at relative low stress level, indicating the anchorage configuration in this study is reliable.

  • Augmented Reality (AR) overlays virtual information on real world data, such as displaying useful information on videos/images of a scene. This paper presents an Enhanced AR (EAR) system that displays useful statistical players' information on captured images of a sports game. We focus on the situation where the input image is degraded by strong sunlight. Proposed EAR system consists of an image enhancement technique to improve the accuracy of subsequent player and face detection. The image enhancement is followed by player and face detection, face recognition, and players' statistics display. First, an algorithm based on multi-scale retinex is proposed for image enhancement. Then, to detect players' and faces', we use adaptive boosting and Haar features for feature extraction and classification. The player face recognition algorithm uses boosted linear discriminant analysis to select features and nearest neighbor classifier for classification. The system can be adjusted to work in different types of sports where the input is an image and the desired output is display of information nearby the recognized players. Simulations are carried out on 2096 different images that contain players in diverse conditions. Proposed EAR system demonstrates the great potential of computer vision based approaches to develop AR applications.

  • Text categorization is one of important features in information searching system which classifies documents according to some criteria. The general method of categorization performs the classification of the target documents by eliciting important index words and providing the weight on them. Therefore, the effectiveness of algorithm is so important since performance and correctness of text categorization totally depends on such algorithm. In this paper, an enhanced method for text categorization by improving word weighting technique is introduced. A method called Okapi BM25 has been proved its effectiveness from some information retrieval engines. We applied Okapi BM25 and showed its good performance in the categorization. Various other words weights methods are compared: TF-IDF, TF-ICF and TF-ISF. The target documents used for this experiment is Reuter-21578, and SVM and KNN algorithms are used. Finally, modified Okapi BM25 shows the most excellent performance.

  • In Electronic Commerce, the latest most of the personalized recommender systems have applied to the collaborative filtering technique. This method calculates the weight of similarity among users who have a similar preference degree in order to predict and recommend the item which hits to propensity of users. In this case, we commonly use Pearson Correlation Coefficient. However, this method is feasible to calculate a correlation if only there are the items that two users evaluated a preference degree in common. Accordingly, the accuracy of prediction falls. The weight of similarity can affect not only the case which predicts the item which hits to propensity of users, but also the performance of the personalized recommender system. In this study, we verify the improvement of the prediction accuracy through an experiment after observing the rule of the weight of similarity applying Vector similarity, Entropy, Inverse user frequency, and Default voting of Information Retrieval field. The result shows that the method combining the weight of similarity using the Entropy with Default voting got the most efficient performance.
