  • The effects of clarified mapping strategy and placement of analog on middle school students' conceptual understanding were investigated. According to the usage of clarified mapping strategy and the sequence in presenting analogy, four types of learning materials were developed and pilot tested. Prior to the treatment, the field dependence-independence test was administered and a previous achievement test scores were obtained. The scores were used as blocking variables. The learning materials were read by randomly assigned middle school students (N=111), and the conceptions test was administered immediately and four weeks later. In the recall problems of immediate and retention test, there were no significant differences. In the application problems of immediate and retention test, however, the students learned with clarified mapping strategy scored significantly higher than those with analog-only. Field-independent students learned with clarified mapping strategy scored significantly higher in the immediate application than those with analog-only, and higher-level students learned with clarified mapping strategy scored significantly higher in the retention application than those with analog-only. In the immediate application, higher-level students learned analog first with clarified mapping strategy scored significantly higher in the immediate application than those learned target concept first with clarified mapping strategy. However, lower-level students learned target concept first with clarified mapping strategy scored significantly higher than those learned analog first with clarified mapping strategy.

  • This paper proposes a robust 3D mapping system for a UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that carries a LRF (Laser Range Finder) using the sinusoidal trajectory algorithm. In the case of previous 3D mapping research, the UAV usually takes off vertically and flights up and down while the LRF is measuring horizontally. In such cases, the measuring range is limited and it takes a long time to do mapping. By using the sinusoidal trajectory algorithm proposed in this research, the 3D mapping can be time-efficient and the measuring range can be widened. The 3D mapping experiments have been done to evaluate the performance of the sinusoidal trajectory algorithm by scanning indoor walls.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop the effective customized elderly fashion marketing process based on the web site, where older customer will be able to choose various fabrics and to try them out. This aims to establish new prototype of internet shopping mall for customized elderly fashion clothing. In this study, new method of product presentation on the online shopping mall is proposed to offer product information through 3D virtual reality. With the online shopping mall(SATC Mall) as a showcase, we presented virtual mapping system so that it enable the customers to select the fabrics and to see exactly how chosen fabric will look when applied to image of clothing. As an initial test of the application of simulation to measure 3D visualization of product, mapping software Vision Easy Map Pro Version 6.0(NedGraphics) Vision Easy Map Viewer Version 5.0(NedGraphics) were chosen and applied. By using this mapping system, the fabric change of the apparel product could be made on the internet shopping web site. However, this approach has been successful applied for presenting and customizing garment products. Future research will focus on the integration of mapping coordination into SATC Mall.

  • Spatial resolution of land covers from remotely sensed images can be increased using super-resolution mapping techniques for soft-classified land cover proportions. A further development of super-resolution mapping technique is downscaling the original remotely sensed image using super-resolution mapping techniques with a forward model. In this paper, the model for increasing spatial resolution of remote sensing multispectral image is tested with real SPOT 5 imagery at 10m spatial resolution for an area in Bac Giang Province, Vietnam in order to evaluate the feasibility of application of this model to the real imagery. The soft-classified land cover proportions obtained using a fuzzy c-means classification are then used as input data for a Hopfield neural network (HNN) to predict the multispectral images at sub-pixel spatial resolution. The 10m SPOT multispectral image was improved to 5m, 3,3m and 2.5m and compared with SPOT Panchromatic image at 2.5m resolution for assessment.Visually, the resulted image is compared with a SPOT 5 panchromatic image acquired at the same time with the multispectral data. The predicted image is apparently sharper than the original coarse spatial resolution image.

  • The links between super-massive black hole masses and their host galaxy properties are observed, indicating that black hole growth and host galaxy evolution are closely related. Reverberation mapping, which uses the time delay from the central black hole to broad line regions, is one of the best methods to estimate masses of black holes of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). However, only masses of about 50 black holes have been determined in reverberation mapping studies so far, and most of them are limited to optical luminosities below 10^45 erg/s due to the challenges of long-term time domain observations in both photometry and spectroscopy. In this project, we expand reverberation mapping samples to higher luminosities of > 10^44.5 erg/s at 0.1 < z < 0.35, that have expected time lags of 40 - 250 light days. Photometric (using LOAO 1-m and MDM 1.3-m) and spectroscopic (using MDM 2.4-m and Lick 3-m) monitoring campaigns are being conducted for a 3 year duration and 20 day cadence. Precedent photometric observations in 2015B show some targets with variability and follow-up spectroscopic observations are on-going. In this presentation, we introduce our project, present reverberation mapping simulation results, and preliminary results on photometry. These reverberation mapping masses of relatively high luminous AGNs will provide a strong constraint on black hole mass calibration, e.g., the single-epoch mass estimation.

  • The needs of 3-D data have been increasing for various applications like visualization, 3-D modeling, planning and management as well as entertainment. Mobile mapping has become a quick and practical means for acquiring necessary 3-D data for above-mentioned applications. A mobile mapping system mainly consists of two main components, viz. data acquisition devices and positioning devices. The data acquisition devices consist of CCD cameras or/and laser scanners. The positioning devices consist of GPS, INS, Odometer (shaft encoder) and some other referencing devices. The overall accuracy of mobile mapping system depends on the accuracy of positioning devices and their integrated output. Though, GPS is the main input device for the position information, the signal is not available for the computation of position all the times in urban area. The GPS satellites are normally obstructed by high-rise buildings. Thus it is very important to understand the accuracy of such a system in different environments and means to solve such problems. We have developed a mobile mapping system called VLMS (Vehicle-borne Laser Mapping System), which consists of CCD Cameras, Laser scanners, GPS, INS and Odometer. In this paper, we will present and discuss the accuracy of this system with data acquired in different environments (open area, urban area, tunnel, express way etc) by analyzing the data with respect to other existing digital data.

  • In the current paper, the intuitionistic fuzzy normed space version of Hyers-Ulam stability for multi-additive, multi-cubic and multi-additive-cubic mappings by using a fixed point method are studied. Moreover, a few corollaries corresponding to some known stability and hyperstability outcomes in intuitionistic fuzzy normed space are presented.

  • In this paper, a composite iterative process is introduced for a generalized equilibrium problem and a pair of nonexpansive mappings. It is proved that the sequence generated in the purposed composite iterative process converges strongly to a common element of the solution set of a generalized equilibrium problem and of the common xed point of a pair of nonexpansive mappings.
