  • Previous studies have shown that Aloe QDM complex, which is consisted of chromium (Cr), aloesin (ALS) and processed Aloe vera gel (PAG), exert antidiabetic activity in a high fat diet-induced mouse model of type 2 diabetes. In this study we examined the mechanism of the antidiabetic activity of the Aloe QDM complex. Rat myoblast cell line L6 cells were cultured in the presence of Cr, ALS, and PAG alone and in combinations, and then the capability of the cells to uptake glucose was examined using radiolabeled glucose. All of the 3 agents, Cr, ALS and PAG, exerted glucose uptake-enhancing activity in L6 cells. The most potent capability to uptake glucose was observed when L6 cells were cultured with the Aloe QDM complex. The activity of the Aloe QDM complex to enhance glucose uptake was prominent in conditions where existing insulin concentrations are low. We also examined the effects of the Aloe QDM complex on the plasma membrane expression of GLUT4 in L6 cells. The Aloe QDM complex increased the content of GLUT4 in the plasma membrane, while decreasing the content of GLUT4 in the light microsome. Taken together, these results show that the antidiabetic activity of the Aloe QDM complex is at least in part due to the stimulation of glucose uptake into the muscle cells, and this activity of the Aloe QDM complex is mediated through the enhancement of the translocation of GLUT4 into the plasma membrane.

  • This paper analyzes complex vector current control for the enhanced cross-coupling compensation in accordance with parameter variation in grid-connected inverter system, and verifies through simulation and experiment. Complex vector current control is performed in the synchronous reference frame through d-q transformation. It generates cross-coupling components with rotating nominal angular frequency. In general, cross-coupling elements are compensated by decoupling terms added to output of conventional decoupling PI controller. But, it is impossible to compensate them perfectly which transient response is especially deteriorated such as large overshoot and slow tracking, when variation of grid impedance or measurement error occurs. However, complex vector current control can improve stability and response characteristic of current control regardless of the situation as before. Decoupling controller and complex vector controller are represented through complex forms, and these controllers are analyzed by using frequency response in s-domain, respectively. It is verified that complex vector controller has more superior response characteristic than decoupling controller through MATALB, PSIM and experimental in 5kW grid-connected inverter when L filter parameter is varied from 1.1mH to increase double, 2.2mH.

  • 2-D complex Gabor filtering has found numerous applications in the fields of computer vision and image processing. Especially, in some applications, it is often needed to compute 2-D complex Gabor filter bank consisting of the 2-D complex Gabor filtering outputs at multiple orientations and frequencies. Although several approaches for fast 2-D complex Gabor filtering have been proposed, they primarily focus on reducing the runtime of performing the 2-D complex Gabor filtering once at specific orientation and frequency. To obtain the 2-D complex Gabor filter bank output, existing methods are repeatedly applied with respect to multiple orientations and frequencies. In this paper, we propose a novel approach that efficiently computes the 2-D complex Gabor filter bank by reducing the computational redundancy that arises when performing the Gabor filtering at multiple orientations and frequencies. The proposed method first decomposes the Gabor basis kernels to allow a fast convolution with the Gaussian kernel in a separable manner. This enables reducing the runtime of the 2-D complex Gabor filter bank by reusing intermediate results of the 2-D complex Gabor filtering computed at a specific orientation. Experimental results demonstrate that our method runs faster than state-of-the-arts methods for fast 2-D complex Gabor filtering, while maintaining similar filtering quality.

  • To enhance the solubility and stability of lansoprazole (LAN), new proton pump inhibitor, we were prepared various molar ratio of inclusion complex with $2-hydroxypropyl-{\beta}-cyclodextrin$ (HPCD) and organic alkali agent, meglumine (MEG). Inclusion complex formation of LAN with HPCD was investigated by Differential Scanning Calorimetry and X-ray diffractometry. The aqueous solubilities of inclusion complexes, and the stabilities of 1:4 and 1:5 inclusion complexes in aqueous solutions containing different concentrations of MEG were examined. The stability of 1:5 LAN-HPCD inclusion complex containing MEG, which was equaled to amount of LAN, was performed in 0.9% NaCl and 5% dextrose solution. The formation of inclusion complex of LAN with HPCD was $A_L$ type and the molar ratio of complex was 1:1. The stability constant was $41.557\;M^{-1}$. As molar ratio of LAN to HPCD was increased, solubility of inclusion complex was increased. 1:5 LAN-HPCD inclusion complex was more stable than 1:4 LAN-HPCD inclusion complex. And as contained MEG amount in LAN solution was increased, stability of 1:4 and 1:5 LAN-HPCD inclusion complexes was improved. Also stability of 1:5 LAN-HPCD-MEG inclusion complex in 0.9% NaCl solution and 5% dextrose solution was similar to it in water at room temperature, but it was unstable at $40^{\circ}C$.

  • A spectrally arbitrary complex sign pattern A is a complex sign pattern of order n such that for every monic nth degree polynomial f(x) with coefficients from $\mathbb{C}$, there is a matrix in the qualitative class of A having the characteristic polynomial f(x). In this paper, we show a necessary condition for a spectrally arbitrary complex sign pattern and introduce a minimal spectrally arbitrary complex sign pattern $A_n$ all of whose superpatterns are also spectrally arbitrary for $n\;{\geq}\;2$. Furthermore, we study the minimum number of nonzero parts in a spectrally arbitrary complex sign pattern.

  • A Thermodynamic study on the interaction of bovine calf thymus DNA with new designed Pd(II) complex (Ethylendiamine- 8-hydroxyquinolinato Palladium(II) chloride) was studied by using isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) at 27 ${^{\circ}C}$ in Tris buffer solution at pH = 7.5. The enthalpies of Pd(II) complex + DNA interaction are reported and analysed in terms of the new solvation theory. It was indicated that there are three identical and non-cooperative sites for Pd(II) complex. The binding of a Pd(II) complex is endothermic with association equilibrium constants of 428.03 m$M^{-1}$ at 27 ${^{\circ}C}$. The binding of Pd(II) complex can cause some changes in the stability of the DNA at low and high Pd(II) complex concentrations. Our results suggested that this complex might interact with DNA as an intercalator, thus interfering with DNA replication and cell proliferation.

  • To elucidate the effect of antioxidant complex containing $\beta-carotene$, vitamin E, vitamin C, Ginkgo Biloba leaf extract and selenium on oxygen :tree radical production and detoxification system, rats were fed normal diet and normal diet with antioxidant complex 0.1%, 0.3% and 0.5% for 3 weeks. Feed efficiency ratio, changes in body weight, weight gain and amounts of feces of rat are similar in four groups. Liver weight per body weight and hepatic lipid peroxide weight increased in 0.5% group. However, hepatic glutathione contents in all antioxidant complex added groups were significantly increased compare with normal control group. On the other hand, the activity of xanthine oxidase was a little increased due to the amounts of antioxidant complex. Superoxide dismutase and gutathione peroxidase activity of 0.1% antioxidant complex added group were increased about $10{\sim}20%$ in comparison to normal control group. These results suggest that the supplementation of antioxidant complex 0.1% to basal diet may reduce the hepatic damage caused by free radicals.
