  • In practical applications of HTS tapes for electric devices such as coils and power cables, the jointing of HTS tapes is needed. In magnet applications superconducting joints are needed to achieve very low resistance at the joint, but for power device applications, a slightly higher joint resistance may be acceptable. In this study, an economical joint with good mechanical and electrical integrity could be achieved for Bi-2223 tapes which can be applicable to electric power applications. A lap joint method has been used. The joint resistance and strength of the jointed Bi2223 tapes have been evaluated. Electro-mechanical properties of the joint sample under tension have been examined and compared with the case of the single tapes.

  • Microstructure and magnetization behaviors of $MnBi/Fe_3B/Nd2_Fe_{14}B$ nanocomposite alloy have been investigated. It was found that the coercivity increased firstly and then decreased, and saturation magnetization decreased with the additon of MnBi alloy. The addition of 40 wt.% MnBi powder enhanced the coercivity from 192.8 kA/m to 311.2 kA/m. The ${\delta}M$ and D(H)-H plots suggested the occurrence of a stronger exchange-coupling occurring between the hard and soft magnetic phase for this sample. The dependence of coercivity with temperature was discussed in 40 wt.% $Mn_{55}Bi_{45}$/ 60 wt.% $Nd_{4.5}Fe_{76.5}Nb_{0.5}B_{18.5}$ alloy powder, and a positive temperature coefficient was founded from 298 K to 350 K.

  • An analysis of 87 stroke Patients who were enrolled in 7 hospitals in cities of Pusan, Taegu, Kumi, and Andong from January 1 to May 31, 1998 was conducted using the modified Barthel Index(BI) and the adapted PULSES profile index(PS) to evaluate their function. Patients were examined at the following intervals : Initial assessment, one month after initial, at discharge, and ore month after discharge. The mean BI score of patients initial assessment was 26.32. and that of PS was 17.34. There were statistically significant between initial score and one month after initial (16.61 : p<0.001), at discharge(33.51 : p<0,001), one month after discharge(43,56 : p<0.001). • This study investigated the variation in the intonation of Seoul Korean interjection ani across different meanings ("no" and "really?") and speech levels (Intimate and Polite) using data from Korean Intonation Corpus (KICo). The investigation was conducted in two stages. First, IP-final tones in the dataset were categorized according to the K-ToBI convention (Jun, 2000). While significant relationships were observed between the meaning of ani and its IP-final tones, substantial overlap between groups was notable. Second, the F0 characteristics of the final syllable of ani were analyzed to elucidate the apparent many-to-many relationships between intonation and meaning/speech level. Results indicated that these seemingly overlapping relationships could be significantly distinguished. Overall, this study advocates for a deeper analysis of phonetic intonation beyond ToBI-based categorical labels. By examining the F0 characteristics of the IP-final syllable, previously unclear connections between meaning/speech level and intonation become more comprehensible. Although ToBI remains a valuable tool and framework for studying intonation, it is imperative to explore beyond these categories to grasp the "distinctiveness" of intonation, thereby enriching our understanding of prosody.

  • Gly-224 residue of yeast alcohol dehydrogenase was mutated by site-directed mufagenesis to isoleucine, which is the corresponding amino acid residue of horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase. The mutated gene on M13 vector was subcloned in YEp13 and used to transform Saccharomyces cerevisiae 302-21 #2 strain, and the expressed protein was purified. The tumover numbers of mutant enzyme for ethanol and acetaldehyde were decreased copared to wild-type enzyme. The results of product inhibition studies indicated that the reaction mechanism was changed to Iso Theorell-Chance from Ordered Bi Bi. We supposed that Gly-224 was related to the enzyme reaction mechanism.

  • The crystallographic characteristics of the $(Bi, La)_4$$Ti_3$$O_{12}$ thin film, which is considered as an applicable dielectrics in the ferroelectric RAM device due to a low crystallization temperature and a good fatigue property, were investigated at the atomic scale by high resolution transmission electron microscopy and the high resolution Z-contrast technique. The analysis showed that a (00c) preferred orientation and a crystallization of the film were enhanced with the diffraction intensity increase of the (006) and (008) plane as the annealing temperature increased. It indicated a change of the atomic arrangement in the (00c) plane. Stacking faults on the (00c) plane were also observed. Through the comparison of the high-resolution Z-contrast image and the $Bi_4$$Ti_3$$O_{12}$ atomic model, it was evaluated that the intensity of the Bi atom was different according to the atomic plane, and it was attributed to a substitution of La atom for Bi at the specific atom position.

  • $Bi_2Sr_2Ca_{n-1}Cu_nO_x$ superconducting thin films have been fabricated by atomic layer-by-layer deposition using IBS(Ion Beam Sputtering) method During the deposition, 90 mol% ozone gas of typical pressure of $1{\sim}9{\times}10^{-5}$ T orr are supplied with ultraviolet light irradiation for oxidation. XRD and RHEED investigations reveal out that a buffer layer with some different compositions is formed at the early deposition stage of less than 10 units cell and then Bi-2201 oriented along the c-axis is grown.

  • This paper proposes J and CTOD estimation schemes applied to fracture toughness testing, covering typical homogeneous and bi-material specimens. Recommendations are based on the plastic limit analysis (either slip line field or finite element limit analyses), assuming the rigid plastic material behavior. The main outcome of the present study is that the J and CTOD estimation schemes (both codified and non-codified), recommended for homogeneous specimens, can be equally used for bi-material specimens with interface cracks. The effect of yield strength mismatch in bi-material specimens on the J-integral CTOD is discussed.

  • Influences of bending strain on the critical current ($I_c$) in Ag-sheathed Bi-2223 superconducting tapes at 77K were investigated. The effect of bending mode on the bending strain characteristics was discussed in viewpoints of sample geometry, n-value and damage morphology. Especially, in this paper, we reported the $I_c$ behavior in Ag alloy sheathed Bi-2223 multifilamentary superconducting tapes under hard bending. As a result, $I_c$ degradation behavior of the hard bending appeared remarkably than the case of easy bending, but it did not influence greatly on the n-value.

  • In this study, the dyeing properties of double knit fabric composed of PET/PTT bi-component fiber and quick dry fiber were examined with disperse dyes. In addition, the shrinkage characteristics were investigated during the dyeing process. The K/S values and shrinkage rate of PET/PTT bi-component fiber were higher than those of PET/co-PET bi-component fiber and quick dry fiber. In the dye bath, dye migration of exhausted on PET/PTT bi-component fiber to quick dry fiber was found at high dyeing temperature. It was not found that there was a significant difference in K/S value on dyeing temperature between 115℃ and 130℃. But the slight color difference of two sides of a double knit fabric was found.
