  • This paper presents an approach of the Gustafson-Kessel (GK) clustering algorithm's performance in fault identification on power transmission lines. The clustering algorithm is incorporated in a scheme that uses hybrid intelligent technique to combine artificial neural network and a fuzzy inference system, known as adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS). The scheme is used to identify the type of fault that occurs on a power transmission line, either single line to ground, double line, double line to ground or three phase. The scheme is also capable an analyzing the fault location without information on line parameters. The range of error estimation is within 0.10 to 0.85 relative to five values of fault resistances. This paper also presents the performance of the GK clustering algorithm compared to fuzzy clustering means (FCM), which is particularly implemented in structuring a data. Results show that the GK algorithm may be implemented in fault identification on power system transmission and performs better than FCM.

  • Customer clustering method is used to make a TDLP (typical daily load profile) to estimate the quater hourly load profile of non-AMR (Automatic Meter Reading) customer. In this paper, repeated small-sized clustering method is supposed to improve the classifying ability of TDLP. K-means algorithm is well-known clustering technology of data mining. To reduce the local maxima of k-means algorithm, proposed method clusters average load profiles to small-sized clusters and selects the highest error rated cluster and clusters this to small-sized clusters repeatedly to minimize the local maxima.

  • The amount of information is increasing rapidly with the development of the internet and the computer. Since these enormous information is managed by the document forms, it is necessary to search and process them efficiently. The document clustering technique which clusters the related documents through the similarity between the documents help to classify, search, and process the large amount of documents automatically. This paper proposes a method to find the initial seed points through principal component analysis when the documents represented by vectors in the feature vector space are clustered by K-means algorithm in order to increase clustering performance. The experiment shows that our method has a better performance than the traditional K-means algorithm.

  • In this paper, we propose a clustered algorithm that possible more efficient user distinction within clustering using context-aware attribute information. In typically, the data provided to classify interrelationships within cluster information in the process of clustering data will be as a degrade factor if new or newly processing information is treated as contaminated information in comparative information. In this paper, we have developed a clustering algorithm that can extract user's recognition information to solve this problem in using K-means algorithm. The proposed algorithm analyzes the user's clustering attributed parameters from user clusters using accumulated information and clustering according to their attributes. The results of the simulation with the proposed algorithm showed that the user management system was more adaptable in terms of classifying and maintaining multiple users in clusters.

  • As an alternative to the k-means clustering the k-spatial medians clustering has many good points because of advantages of spatial median. However, it has not been used a lot since it needs heavy computation. If the number of objects and the number of variables are large the computation time problem is getting serious. In this study we propose fast algorithm for the k-spatial medians clustering. Practical applicability of the algorithm is shown with some numerical studies.

  • RHadoop is a collection of R packages that allow users to manage and analyze data with Hadoop. In this paper, we implement K-Means algorithm based on MapReduce framework with RHadoop to make the clustering method applicable to large scale data. The main idea introduces a combiner as a function of our map output to decrease the amount of data needed to be processed by reducers. We showed that our K-Means algorithm using RHadoop with combiner was faster than regular algorithm without combiner as the size of data set increases. We also implemented Elbow method with MapReduce for finding the optimum number of clusters for K-Means clustering on large dataset. Comparison with our MapReduce implementation of Elbow method and classical kmeans() in R with small data showed similar results.

  • The presence of local features within clusters incurred by multi-modal nature of data prohibits many conventional clustering techniques from working properly. Especially, the clustering of datasets with non-Gaussian distributions within a cluster can be problematic when the technique with implicit assumption of Gaussian distribution is used. Current study proposes a simple tandem clustering method composed of k-means type algorithm and hierarchical method to solve such problems. The multi-modal dataset is first divided into many small pre-clusters by k-means or fuzzy k-means algorithm. The pre-clusters found from the first step are to be clustered again using agglomerative hierarchical clustering method with Kullback- Leibler divergence as the measure of dissimilarity. This method is not only effective at extracting the multi-modal clusters but also fast and easy in terms of computation complexity and relatively robust at the presence of outliers. The performance of the proposed method was evaluated on three generated datasets and six sets of publicly known real world data.

  • Data clustering is often one of the first steps in data mining analysis. It Identifies groups of related objects that can be used as a starling point for exploring further relationships. This technique supports the development of population segmentation models, such as demographic-based customer segmentation. This paper Purpose to present the development of two phase hierarchical clustering algorithm for group formation. Applications of the algorithm for product-customer group formation in customer relationahip management are also discussed. As a result of computer simulations, suggested algorithm outperforms single link method and k-means clustering.

  • In this study. the author proposes a nonhierarchical clustering method. called the "Double K-Means Clustering", which performs clustering of multivariate observations with the following algorithm: Step I: Carry out the ordinary K-means clmitering and obtain k temporary clusters with sizes $n_1$,... , $n_k$, centroids $c_$1,..., $c_k$ and pooled covariance matrix S. $\bullet$ Step II-I: Allocate the observation x, to the cluster F if it satisfies ..... where N is the total number of observations, for -i = 1, . ,N. $\bullet$ Step II-2: Update cluster sizes $n_1$,... , $n_k$, centroids $c_$1,..., $c_k$ and pooled covariance matrix S. $\bullet$ Step II-3: Repeat Steps II-I and II-2 until the change becomes negligible. The double K-means clustering is nearly "optimal" under the mixture of k multivariate normal distributions with the common covariance matrix. Also, it is nearly affine invariant, with the data-analytic implication that variable standardizations are not that required. The method is numerically demonstrated on Fisher's iris data.

  • An efficient algorithm for clustering of GPDFs(Gaussian Probability Density Functions) in a speech recognition model is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm is based on CNN with the divergence as its distance measure and is applied to a speech recognition. The algorithm is compared with conventional Dk-means(Divergence-based k-means) algorithm in CDHMM(Continuous Density Hidden Markov Model). The results show that it can reduce about 31.3% of GPDFs over Dk-means algorithm without suffering any recognition performance. When compared with the case that no clustering is employed and full GPDFs are used, the proposed algorithm can save about 61.8% of GPDFs while preserving the recognition performance.
