  • Unsupervised spectral angle classification (USAC) is the algorithm that can extract ground object information with the minimum 'Spectral Angle' operation on behalf of 'Spectral Euclidian Distance' in the clustering process. In this study, our algorithm uses the unit vector instead of the spectral distance to compute the mean of cluster in the unsupervised classification. The proposed algorithm (MUSAC) is applied to the Hyperion and ETM+ data and the results are compared with K-Meails and former USAC algorithm (FUSAC). USAC is capable of clearly classifying water and dark forest area and produces more accurate results than K-Means. Atmospheric correction for more accurate results was adapted on the Hyperion data (Hyperion-FLAASH) but the results did not have any effect on the accuracy. Thus we anticipate that the 'Spectral Angle' can be one of the most accurate classifiers of not only multispectral images but also hyperspectral images. Furthermore the cluster unit vector can be an efficient technique for determination of each cluster mean in the USAC.

  • Biomedical image is often complex. An applied image analysis system should deal with the images which are of quite low quality and are challenging to segment. This paper presents a framework for color cell image segmentation by learning and classification online. It is a robust two-stage scheme using kernel method and watershed transform. In first stage, a two-class SVM is employed to discriminate the pixels of object from background; where the SVM is trained on the data which has been analyzed using the mean shift procedure. A real-time training strategy is also developed for SVM. In second stage, as the post-processing, local watershed transform is used to separate clustering cells. Comparison with the SSF (Scale space filter) and classical watershed-based algorithm (those are often employed for cell image segmentation) is given. Experimental results demonstrate that the new method is more accurate and robust than compared methods.

  • This paper investigated the influence on partial discharge distribution of various defects at the model power cable joints interface using K-means clustering. As the result of analyzing discharge number distribution of ${\Phi}-n$ cluster, clusters shifted to $0^{\circ}\;and\;180^{\circ}$ with increasing applying voltage. It was confirmed that discharge quantity and euclidean distance between centroids were increased with applying voltage from the analyzing centroid distribution of ${\Phi}-q$ cluster. The degree of dispersion was increased with calculating standard deviation of ${\Phi}-q$ cluster centroid. The tendency both number of discharge and mean value of ${\Phi}-q$ cluster centroid were some different with defect types.

  • Two hundred and sixty Korean soybean landrace accessions were analyzed for polymorphism at 92 simple sequence repeat(SSR) loci. The 995 identified alleles served as raw data for estimating genetic diversity and population structure. The number of alleles at a locus ranged from three to 27 with a mean of 10.4 alleles per locus. $F_{ST}$ values estimated by analysis of molecular variance(AMOVA) using SSR data set were 0.018, 0.027, and 0.016 for usage, collection site and maturity groups, respectively, indicating little genetic differentiation. The model-based clustering analysis placed the accessions into three clusters(K=3) with 0.0503 of $F_{ST}$, indicating moderate genetic differentiation. Duncan's Multiple Range Test at K = 3 on the basis of 18 quantitative traits revealed that one cluster was mainly differentiated from the other two clusters by seed related traits and the other two clusters were differentiated from each other by biochemical traits. Genetic structure of Korean soybean landraces was differentiated by model-based clustering and supported by their phenotypic traits in part. This preliminary study could be the first step towards more efficient germplasm management and utilization of soybean landraces and helpful in association studies between genotypic and phenotypic traits in Korean soybean landraces.

  • This study defined the genetic diversity of five breeds of cattle in Asia by analyzing 6 microsatellite markers in 270 animals. Based on expected mean heterozygosity, the lowest genetic diversity was exhibited in Japanese black cattle (HE=0.5849), and the highest in Chinese yellow cattle (HE=0.8073). Average proportion of genetic variation due to interpopulation subdivision among these five cattle breeds varied between 11.7 and 12.5%. The genetic distances were roughly divided into three groups: Japanese black cattle, Holstein, and the three remaining breeds. This clustering agrees with the origin and geographical distributions of these five cattle breeds.
