  • To obtain a design data for box beams used as headers in light-frame timber construction, $2{\times}6\;(38{\times}140mm),\;2{\times}8\;(38{\times}184mm),\;2{\times}10\;(38{\times}235mm)\;and\;2{\times}12\;(38{\times}286mm)$ members were built as box beam specimens for bending tests. The allowable bending stresses for box beams were obtained through bending tests of these specimens, and span tables were calculated for various loading conditions based on the allowable bending stresses obtained. The allowable bending stresses were determined as the bending stresses at 10mm deflection of specimens from the results of bending tests of box beam specimens. Span tables for box beams were obtained assuming five loading conditions for headers used in exterior walls and two loading conditions for headers used in interior walls. Among these 7 loading conditions, 5 loading conditions applied to headers in exterior walls included the dead loads, the live loads and the snow loads and 2 loading conditions applied to headers in interior walls included the dead loads and the live loads.

  • This paper presents a new strength method of underground box structures under additional surface load. An L-bracing using pre-flexed steel member threads called the "Pre-flex strength method" is used to improve capacity of the RC box structure under earth pressure due to additional surface load. The pre-flexed steel member is fixed the top and bottom of the structure after chemical anchor was installed by drilling hole on the box structure. The structural performance was evaluated analytically. 3 types of underground RC box structure were used; $2.0m{\times}2.0m$, $3.0m{\times}3.0m$ and $4.0m{\times}4.0m$. For the performance evaluation, structure analysis were performed on moment and shear resisting structures with and without pre-flex strength method. Numerical results confirmed that the proposed strength member system installed on underground RC box structures enhanced the strength capacity. The feasible region of the proposed pre-flex strength method in accordance with the earth pressure due to additional surface depth was evaluated.

  • Weight loss of cucumber packed with corrugated paperboard box after 7 days storage at 20oC was 4.9%, and those of 20LD, 40LD film and EPS box were 0.8, 0.7, and 0.8%. Total ascorbic acid content of EPS was 15% higher than that of control. Hardness of EPS was also similar trend. Chlorophil content of cucumber packed with EPS box was 21% higher than that of control. Decay of control was 1-2 pieces per box, but the others was not found. Overall appearence of LD, EPS was better than that of control.

  • This study examined the muscle fatigue of the erector spinae according to box size during lifting activity. Ten healthy adult man participated in the experiment for lifting the boxes 10 times with 0.2 lift/s frequency. Bilateral surface EMG (Electomyogtamphy) recordings were made regarding M. (Muscle) Longissimus, M. Iliocostal and M, Multifidus activity throughout lifting working. The median frequency in back muscle fatigue was investigated using power spectral analysis of surface EMG. When the box larger than shoulder width was lifted, the muscle fatigue of M, Multifidus was shown larger than one of the other muscles. Accordingly, the result far M. Multifidus can be applied in optimizing design parameter of box. Also, the standard of box width for box makers have to be below about 420 mm, being average shoulder width of adult male.

  • This study investigates the impact of tweets on box office revenue. Specifically, the study focuses on the times when tweets were written by examining the impact of pre- and post-consumption tweets on box office revenue; an examination that is based on Expectation Confirmation Theory. The study also investigates the impact of intention tweets versus subjective tweets and the impact of negative tweets on box office revenue. Targeting 120 movies released in the US between February and August 2012, this study collected tweet information on a daily basis from two weeks before the opening until the closing and box office revenue information. The results indicate that the disconfirmation that occurs in relation to the total number of pre-consumption tweets for a movie has a negative impact on box office revenue. This premise suggests that the formation of higher expectations of a movie does not always result in positive results in situations where tweets on perceived movie quality after watching spread rapidly. This study also reveals that intention tweets have stronger effects on box office revenue than subjective tweets.

  • In this study, the effect of blast furnace slag on precast concrete culvert was assessed by measuring the flexural strength using to full scaled box culvert. As a result, the initial cracking load and yield load of reinforced concrete box converts are increased in comparison with those of the normal concrete box culvert, but the ultimate load is decreased slightly. It can be concluded that use of blast furnace slag induce to flexural strength in precast concrete box culvert greatly improved the serviceability.

  • The molecular structure and dynamics of inclusion compounds (ICs) consisting of n-perfluoroalkane (PFA) guests and ${\Box}-cyclodextrin$ (${\Box}-CD$) host were investigated using $^{19}F$ magic angle spinning (MAS) and $^{1}H{\to}^{19}F$ cross polarization (CP) / MAS NMR spectroscopy with the aid of thermal analyses, FT-IR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, and $^{1}H{\to}^{19}F$ CP/MAS technique revealed that $C_{9}F_{20}$ molecules included in ${\Box}-CD$ undergo vigorous molecular motion and partly come out of the ${\Box}-CD$ channel above $80^{\circ}C$. In case of $C_{20}F_{42}/{\Box}-CD$, an exothermic peak is observed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) at ca. $40^{\circ}C$ which suggests that ${\Box}-CD$ molecules become mobile and commence rearrangements that form more ordered structures at higher temperatures.

  • In this study, spur and helical box models of an existing machine tool are investigated using structural and fatigue analyses. As the helical box model is shown to have less stress and deformation than those characteristics of the spur box model, the helical box has more strength and more transmission efficiency on the structure. In terms of fatigue analysis, the helical box model has more repeated fatigue strength than that of the spur box model. These study results can be effectively utilized in the design of real gear boxes of machine tools by anticipating and investigating prevention and durability against damage.

  • In this paper, we propose a bounding box prediction algorithm using multiple probability maps to improve object detection result of object detector. Although the performance of object detectors has been significantly improved, it is still not perfect due to technical problems and lack of learning data. Therefore, we use the result correction method to obtain more accurate object detection results. In the proposed algorithm, the preprocessed bounding box created as a result of object detection by the object detector is clustered in various form, and a conditional probability is given to each cluster to make multiple probability map. Finally, multiple probability map create new bounding box of object using morphological elements. Experiment results show that the newly predicted bounding box reduces the error in ground truth more than 45% on average compared to the previous bounding box.

  • This paper presents a comparison of the black-box and the physics based derived gray-box models for subspace identification for structures subjected to support-excitation. The study compares the damage detection capabilities of both these methods for linear time invariant (LTI) systems as well as linear time-varying (LTV) systems by extending the gray-box model for time-varying systems using short-time windows. The numerically simulated IASC-ASCE Phase-I benchmark building has been used to compare the two methods for different damage scenarios. The efficacy of the two methods for the identification of stiffness parameters has been studied in the presence of different levels of sensor noise to simulate on-field conditions. The proposed extension of the gray-box model for LTV systems has been shown to outperform the black-box model in capturing the variation in stiffness parameters for the benchmark building.
