  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the floor temperature on the human body and to estimate thermal comfort zone in a heated room. In order to evaluate the effects of floor heating, a series of experiments were carried out using Korean subjects. The following experiments were conducted: 1) to obtain the effective radiation area and configuration factors of the person in the sitting posture on a floor to get the mean radiant temperature, 2) to measure contacted area of the person to the floor to calculate conduction heat rate, 3) to measure convective heat transfer coefficient of the body and 4) to know the thermal comfort zone of indoor environment heated by ON-DOL. Subjects were exposed to the following conditions: combinations of air temperature $20^{\circ}C$, $22.5^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, and floor temperature $20^{\circ}C$, $22.5^{\circ}C$, $25^{\circ}C$, $27.5^{\circ}C$, $30^{\circ}C$, $32.5^{\circ}C$, $35^{\circ}C$, $37.5^{\circ}C$, $40^{\circ}C$ under still air and 50% relative humidity in the controllable artificial climate chamber. To evaluate the effect of heat conduction between the body and a floor modified mean skin temperature was defined. Weighting coefficient to calculate mean skin temperature were modified with the contacted area. The experiments revealed a positive correlation between the modified operative temperature and the modified mean skin temperature. The modified mean skin temperature can indicate the effect of heat conduction between body and a floor surface.

  • Soaking of soybeans is usually considered necessary as a part of further processing. However the soaking process causes the loss of soluble solids from soybean. The temperature effect on the leaching rate of soluble solids during soaking of soybeans were determined at temperatures ranging from $10^{\circ}-50^{\circ}C$. Soaking temperature and time were found to greatly influence the content of soluble solids. Solid leaching rate constant was increased with temperature ranging from 10 - 33 mg/min. Overall mass transfer coefficient of $66.7\;mg/m^2{\cdot}h$ at $20^{\circ}C$ for Saeal variety was higher as compared with other variety (Kwanggyo, Tanyob), and activation energy was found to be 4026 cal/mole. Z-values to reach different degree of leaching showed the descending tendency with increase of solid leaching.

  • ABSTRACT: The cell fusants were constructed from complementary auxotrophic mutants of Phffia rhodozyma. The nuclear fusion of the fusants was demonstrated by several techniques including comparision of cell volume, estimation of DNA content and nuclear staining. The cell fusants were very stable for succeeding transfer culture on complex medium for more than one year. Malt extract (1%, w/v) and abscisic acid(1 mM) increased the carotenoid formation whereas gibberellic acid(5mM) and riboflavin(0.1 mM) decreased the corresponding content.

  • Electrochemical characteristics and kinetic parameters of copper ion reduction were investigated with a platinum rotating disk electrode (RDE) in a diffusion controlled region. Reduction of Cu(II) in sulfate had one-step two-xelectron process, while the reduction of Cu(II) in chloride solution was involved two one-electron processes. The transfer coefficient of Cu(II) in sulfate solution was lowest, and the transfer coefficient of Cu(I) in halide solutions had the value of nearly one. In chloride solutions, electrodeposition rate of Cu(II) was about one hundred times faster than Cu(I). Diffusion coefficient increased in the order of Cu(II) in chloride solution, Cu(I) in the iodide, bromide, chloride solution, Cu(II) in sulfate solution. The calculated ionic radii and activation energy for diffusion decreased in the same order as above. Morphological study on the copper electrodeposition indicated that the electrode surface became rougher as both concentration and reduction potential increases, and the roughness of the surface was analyzed with UV/VIS spectrophotometer.

  • In the ozone evolution using $PbO_2$, which was electrodeposited on Ti plate at various conditions in electrolyte, the effects of lead dioxide structure on the current efficiency and surface structure changes of lead dioxide were investigated. Also the effects of oxygen transfer reaction on the ozone evolution were investigated by means of a $PbO_2$ electrodeposited on the platinum rotating disk electrode. In order to develope an electrode for ozone evolution, durability of lead dioxide and optimum current density were investigated. At the electrodeposited lead dioxide with the larger grain size and higher crystallinity, the efficiency for ozone evolution was higher. Optimum current density to electrodeposite lead dioxide with large grain size and high crystalinity was $50mA/cm^2$. Lead dioxide deposited in the presence of glycerin showed the best advantage of ozone evolution. Also lead dioxide electrodeposited at less than $10mA/cm^2$ or at more than $100mA/cm^2$ has poor performance of ozone evolution and poor adhesive strength to substrate. In the beginning of ozone evolution, surface structure of lead dioxide was changed and this change resulted in good effects on ozone evolution. Lead dioxide doped with other elements was favorable not to ozone evolution but to oxygen evolution, so it is speculated that ozone evolution has not intermediate stage of oxygen evolution and occurs competitively with oxygen evolution. When ozone was evolved at $0.7{\sim}0.8A/cm^2$, the current efficiency was highest.

  • Successful cryopreservation of bovine immature oocytes can increase availably of oocytes for the in vitro fertilization or nuclear transfer. However, it was not reported successful development to the blastocyst stage following in vitro fertilization of cryopreserved bovine immature oocytes. The objective of this study was to determine the incidence of survival, meiotic maturation, fertilization and in vitro development of cryopreserved bovine immature by ultra rapid cooling methods. The oocytes were adversely affected by brief exposure to EFS40 solution in electron microscope grids and plunged directly into liquid nitrogen. After such ultra-rapid cooled immature oocytes were warmed, 78% of oocytes were matured to the metaphase II stage, 50% of oocytes were fertilized after insemination, and 5% of oocytes were developed to the blastocyst stage. Different sodium concentration of sodium ion in the freezing medium did not affect survival, maturation, fertilization and in vitro development of cryopreserved oocytes. These results suggested that immature bovine oocytes can be cryopreserved by ultra-rapid cooling methods.

By personal income per year, below 30 million won represented 11.0%, 30-40 84.8%, above 40 4.1%; by sleeping hours, below 6 hours represented 26.7%, 7-8 hours 69.9%, above 9 hours 3.4%. Complaint rates of musculoskeletal symptoms and work-related musculoskeletal disorder rates were 63.9% and 54.9% with shoulder area occupying most of both them. By pain degree of musculoskeletal symptoms, shoulder area represented $2.73{\pm}0.84$, lumbar area $2.66{\pm}0.86$, wrist and hand area $2.59{\pm}0.86$, neck area $2.55{\pm}0.74$, and arm and elbow area $2.48{\pm}0.71$. By cares about musculoskeletal symptoms, taking medication or care represented 34.4%-46.7%, absence or leave 15.4%-28.7%, and job transfer 6.3%-11.5%. So experienced cases more than one thing among cares about musculoskeletal symptoms represented 39.6%-54%. In the diagnosis using moire topography, pain control necessity of cervicobrachial area was shown below; A(no symptoms) 20.7%, B1(need management/light symptoms) 64.6%, B2(need management/heavy symptoms) 11.5%, C1(need treatment/light symptoms) 3.0%, C2(need treatment/heavy symptoms) 0.2%. By lumbar area, A(no symptoms) 8.7%, B1(need management/light symptoms) 52.2%, B2(need management/heavy symptoms) 30.3%, C1(need treatment/light symptoms) 8.7%, C2(need treatment/heavy symptoms) was none. In the relation between pain control necessity and general characteristics, age(P=0.013), education(P=0.000), and job tenure(P=0.012) with pain control necessity showed differences with significance. The relation between pain control necessity and complaint of musculoskeletal symptoms of cervicobrachial and lumbar area showed no difference with significance; in cervicobrachial area represented P=0.708, lumbar area P=0.318 Conclusions: This study for musculoskeletal symptoms on workers at automobile manufacturing plant showed that complaint rates of musculoskeletal symptoms for cervicobrachial and lumbar area were so high, 63.9%. But Pearson's chi-square test analysis was utilized to study the relation between musculoskeletal symptoms and the diagnosis using moire topography, showed no differences with significance. They have no differences with significance, but the prevalence rates of diagnosis using moire topography for cervicobrachial and lumbar area were more higher than complaint rates of musculoskeletal symptoms; complaint rates of musculoskeletal symptoms were 52.4%, 34.5% and the diagnosis using moire topography were 79.3%, 91.3% for cervicobrachial and lumbar area. The results of this study indicate that the diagnosis using moire topography can find weak musculoskeletal disorders that an individual can not feel, not be judged work-related musculoskeletal disease. Therefore, this study has an important meaning that diagnosis using moire topography can predict and control own physical condition complete musculoskeletal disorders beforehand, since oriental medicine theory considers that prevention is important.
