  • Purpose: The use of two adjacent radiation beams to treat a lesion that is larger than the maximum field of a machine may lead to higher or lower dose distribution at the junction than expected. Therefore, evaluation of the junction dose is crucial for radiotherapy. Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) can effectively protect surrounding normal tissues by implementing a complex dose distribution; therefore, two adjacent VMAT fields can effectively treat large lesions. However, VMAT can lead to significant errors in the junction dose between fields if setup errors occur due to its highly complex dose distributions. Methods: In this study, setup errors of ±1, ±3, and ±5 mm were assumed during radiotherapy for treating large lesions in the lower abdomen, and their effects on the treatment dose distribution and target coverage were analyzed using gamma pass rate (GP) and homogeneity index (HI). All studies were performed using a computational simulation method based on our radiation treatment planning software. Results: Consequently, when the setup error was more than ±3 mm, most GP values using a 3%/3-mm criterion decreased by <90%. GP was independent of the direction of the field gap (FG), whereas HI values were relatively more affected by negative values for FG. Conclusions: Therefore, the size and direction of setup errors should be carefully managed when performing dual-isocentric VMATs for large targets.

  • Fine structure of the neuromuscular junction in the venomous organ of the spider, Agelena li'mbutq, was studied using high magnification electron microscope. The motor nerve endings at neuromuscular contact area composed of neurons and neuroslial cells were located between musculature and extracellular sheath of the venom gBand. At the synaptic contact between a motor axon and a muscle fiber in the musculature, spherical synaptic vesicles were prominent in the nerve terminal. The sarcoplasm beneath the neuromuscular synapse has a granular appearance and lacks mvofilaments. And the main axon gives off a branch between the muscle fibers. The synaptic regions of this organ are located close to the myofilaments unlike to other chelicerate classes. Moreover the postsvnaptic complex of vesicles and membrane invasinations present in other synaptic legions are absent from these legions in this venomous organ.

  • The Si-SiO$_2$interface trap and nitride bulk trap distribution of SONOSFET(polysilicon-oxide-nitride-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistor) NVSM (nonvolatile semiconductor memory) cell is investigated by single junction charge pumping method. The device was fabricated by 0.35㎛ standard logic fabrication process including the ONO stack dielectrics. The thickness of ONO dielectricis are 24$\AA$ for tunnel oxide, 74 $\AA$ for nitride and 25 $\AA$ for blocking oxide, respectively. By the use of single junction charge pumping method, the lateral profiles of both interface and memory traps can be calculated directly from experimental charge pumping results without complex numerical simulation. The interface traps were almost uniformly distributed over the whole channel region and its maximum value was 7.97$\times$10$\^$10/㎠. The memory traps were uniformly distributed in the nitride layer and its maximum value was 1.04$\times$10$\^$19/㎤. The degradation characteristics of SONOSFET with write/erase cycling also were investigated.

  • The variation of channel bed which shows the complex hydraulic characteristics at channel junction was investigated by variation of discharge ratio and location of pier. As discharge ratio increase, the depth and width of erosion region become bigger to point of 63% of channel width in case of 1:0.5 discharge ratio. It was observed that the maximum scour depth at the point of 0.5 times of the channel width in the channel junction as 2.5 times bigger than straight channel. It means that the maximum scour depth at the channel junction is 2 times greater than by experimental formulas which are widely used in practical engineering, location of pier should be determined when it is installed in channel junction.

  • The QRS complex of ECG signal represents the depolarization and repolarization activities in the cells of ventricle. Accurate informations of $QRS_{onset}$ and $QRS_{offset}$ are needed for automatic analysis of ECG waves. In this study, using the amount of change in the QRS complex voltage values and the distance from the $R_{peak}$, we determined the junction point from Q-wave to R-wave and the junction point from R-wave to S-wave. In the next step, using the integral calculation based on the connection point, we detected $QRS_{onset}$ and $QRS_{offset}$. We use the PhysioNet QT database to evaluate the performances of the algorithm, and calculate the mean and standard deviation of the differences between onsets or offsets manually marked by cardiologists and those detected by the proposed algorithm. The experiment results show that standard deviations are under the tolerances accepted by expert physicians, and outperform the results obtained by the other algorithms.

  • Electromagnetic topology simplifies a complex analysis area in accordance with electromagnetic coupling. And then electromagnetic topology divides the simplified continuous area into sub-areas and analyzes electromagnetic problems at the sub-areas. Therefore electromagnetic topology has a merit to analyze the electromagnetic coupling in large and complex systems, however simplified modeling technique can generate large errors. In this paper, power balance method is used to estimate errors and subdivide junctions in the electromagnetic topology. The method is applied to analyze conducted and radiated electromagnetic coupling in two kinds of cavity models. Improvement of accuracy was accomplished in accordance with junction subdivision. Moreover we could save computation time and memory comparing with FDTD results.

  • Congestion of the city with the rapid industrial development was accelerated to build complex social infrastructure. And numerous structures have been designed and constructed in accordance with these requirements. Recently, to solve complex urban traffic, many researches of large-diameter tunnel under construction downtown are in progress. The large-diameter tunnel has been developed with a versatile double-deck of deep depth tunnel. For the safe tunnel construction, ground reinforcement methods have been developed in the weakened pillar section like as junction of tunnel. This paper focuses on evaluation of the effects of new developed ground reinforcement methods in double-deck junction. The values of reinforcement determined from the existing and developed methods were compared to each other by numerical simulation.

  • Fractures of lumbo-sacral junction involving bilateral sacral wings are rare. Posterior lumbo-sacral fixation does not always provide with sufficient stability in such cases. Various augmentation techniques including divergent sacral ala screws, S2 pedicle screws and Galveston rods have been reported to improve lumbo-sacral stabilization. Galveston technique using iliac bones would be the best surgical approach especially in patients with bilateral comminuted sacral fractures. However, original Galveston surgery is technically demanding and bending rods into the appropriate alignment is time consuming. We present a patient with unstable lumbo-sacral junction fractures and comminuted U-shaped sacral fractures treated by lumbo-sacro-pelvic fixation using iliac screws and discuss about the advantages of the iliac screws over the rod system of Galveston technique.

  • A complex single flux quantum(SFQ) circuit could be made up of various elementary cells such as JTL(Josephson transmission line), Splitter, XOR, DC/SFQ, SFQ/DC, T flip-flop, ‥‥, etc. In this work, we have designed and simulated a SFQ circuit, which consists of DC/SFQ, JTL and SFQ/DC, based on Nb/AlO$_{x}$Nb Josephson junction technology From the simulation, we could obtain the margins for various circuit parameters. And also we have successfully operated the circuit, which was fabricated with the same design, up to the input signal frequency of about 20 GHz.z.

  • Statistical energy method is widely used for the prediction of vibrational and acoustical behavior of complex structures, such as ship building and automobile in mid-, high frequency ranges. However. in order to convince this SEA result, it is important to verify estimated SEA parameters, e. g. modal density, energy in each subsystem, damping loss factor, coupling loss factor. with possible other method. For modal density parameter, the experimental estimations via Experimental Modal Analysis are checked with those from finite element method for both beam- plate and plate-plate cans. Loss factors are calculated by Lyon's simple method for the two subsystem. finally. modal experiments are carried out by varying the mass added on the junction of two subsystem for the purpose of investigating the influence on the coupling loss factor's behavior.
