  • High junction temperature directly or indirectly affects the optical performance and reliability of high power LEDs in many ways. This paper is focused on junction temperature characterization of LEDs. High power LEDs (3W) were tested in temperature steps to reach a thermal equilibrium condition between the chamber and the LEDs. The LEDs were generated by pulsed currents with duty ratios (0.091% and 0.061%) in multiple steps from 0mA and 700mA. The diode forward voltages corresponding to the short pulsed currents were monitored to correlate junction temperatures with the forward voltage responses for calibration measurement. In junction temperature measurement, forward voltage responses at different current levels were used to estimate junction temperatures. Finally junction temperatures in multiple steps of currents were estimated in effectively controlled conditions for designing the reliability of LEDs.

  • Purpose: Exact knowledge of the location and dimension of the pulp chamber help to maintain the pulp healthy during operative procedure and also reduces the risk of perforation of pulp chamber during root canal treatment. This in-vivo study was carried out to measure critical morphology of pulp chamber of mandibular molar using intra-oral periapical radiograph. Materials and Methods: Mandibular molar teeth of 56 patients were evaluated. The mandibular molar teeth whose pulp chamber was not violated by caries, restoration, fracture crown and those having closed apex were included in the study. The intraoral periapical radiographs were taken with paralleling angle technique using radio-opaque grid with 1 mm space. This grid was placed directly on the film. Results: In 94% of the mandibular first molars specimens the pulp chamber ceiling was at the level of the cemento-enamel junction. The measurements showing the lowest percentage variance were buccal cusp to furcation (approximately 11%) and buccal cusp to pulp chamber ceiling (approximately 15%). The distance from the cusp tip to pulp chamber ceiling height was approximately 6.0 mm, the distance from the pulpal floor to the furcation was approximately 3.0 mm, and the average height of a pulp chamber was 1.5 to 2.0 mm. Conclusion: The exact knowledge of distances of pulp chamber from various anatomical landmarks helps in proper assessment of root canals and ultimately avoids the failure of root canal treatment.

  • In this study, copper vapor chambers with built-in cooling fins, which eliminated the soldered or brazed joints in the conventional vapor chamber, were fabricated using the metal injection molding process. The results show that with optimized molding parameters, fins with an aspect ratio up to 18 could be produced. After sintering, the densities of the fin and chamber reached 96%. With only 32 cooling fins and a small fan installed, the thermal resistance of the heat sink was $1.156^{\circ}C/W$, and the power dissipation was 40W when the junction temperature was $70^{\circ}C$. When copper powder was sintered onto the chamber to make a vapor chamber, the thermal resistance decreased to $1.046^{\circ}C/W$.

• This paper presents the simulation of the multi-cylinder 4-stroke cycle spark-ignition engine using a commercial simulation tool, AVL BOOST. Various models were examined to select the appropriate models that would best serve to analyze the main components of the intake and exhaust systems-the plenum chamber, the muffler and the exhaust manifold branch junction. For the plenum chamber and the muffler, the tank model and the pipe model were tested. In order to analyze the exhaust manifold branch junction, a complicated model which reflects the actual shape and involves pressure drops was compared to a simplified one. The results show that both the tank model and the pipe model are applicable with satisfying accuracies for the plenum chamber and the muffler. However, the tank model is more desirable in regards to convenience in modeling and efficiency in calculation. Though both the complicated model and the simplified model show satisfying accuracies for the exhaust manifold branch junction, the simplified model is recommended in regards to convenience in modeling and efficiency in calculation.

  • Plasma source ion implantation is a new doping technique for the formation of shallow junction with the merits of high dose rate, low-cost and minimal wafer charging damage. In plasma source ion implantation process, the wafer is placed directly in the plasma of the appropriate dopant ions. Negative pulse bias is applied to the wafer, causing the dopant ions to be accelerated toward the wafer and implanted below the surface. In this work, inductively couples plasma was generated by anodized Al antenna that was located inside the vacuum chamber. The outside wall of Al chamber was surrounded by Nd-Fe-B permanent magnets to confine the plasma and to enhance the uniformity. Before implantation, the wafer was pre-sputtered using DC bias of 300B in Ar plasma in order to eliminate the native oxide. After cleaning, B2H6 (5%)/H2 plasma and negative pulse bias of -1kV to 5 kV were used to form shallow p+/n junction at the boron dose of 1$\times$1015 to 5$\times$1016 #/cm2. The as-implanted samples were annealed at 90$0^{\circ}C$, 95$0^{\circ}C$ and 100$0^{\circ}C$during various annealing time with rapid thermal process. After annealing, the sheet resistance and the junction depth were measured with four point probe and secondary ion mass spectroscopy, respectively. The doping uniformity was also investigated. In addition, the electrical characteristics were measured for Schottky diode with a current-voltage meter.

  • Underwater vehicles play a very important role in underwater engineering. Water-tight junction box (WJB) is one of the key components in underwater vehicle. This paper puts forward a pressure self-adaptive water-tight junction box (PSAWJB) which improves the reliability of the WJB significantly by solving the sealing and pressure problems in conventional WJB design. By redundancy design method, the pressure self-adaptive equalizer (PSAE) is designed in such a way that it consists of a piston pressure-adaptive compensator (PPAC) and a titanium film pressure-adaptive compensator (TFPAC). According to hydro-mechanical simulations, the operating volume of the PSAE is more than or equal to 11.6 % of the volume of WJB liquid system. Furthermore, the required operating volume of the PSAE also increases as the gas content of oil, hydrostatic pressure or temperature difference increases. The reliability of the PSAWJB is proved by hyperbaric chamber tests.

  • Flow characteristics at secondary recirculation zone in a liquid fuel ramjet combustor were investigated using CFD and Stereoscopic PIV method. The combustors have two rectangular inlets that form 90 degree each other. Three guide vanes were installed in each rectangular inlet to improve the flow stability. The tested angle of the air intakes was 60 degree. The experiments were performed in the water tunnel test with the same Reynolds number in the case of Mach 0.3 at inlet. The computational and experimental results showed that the secondary recirculation flow occurred at the front junction of inlet main stream and combustor chamber. The size of secondary recirculation regions are increased with approaching closer to the center of the combustor. Since the performance of combustor is closely dependent not only on the main recirculation in the dome region but also on the secondary recirculation flow in a junction region, the optimal angle of the air intakes should be considered the recirculation size as frame holder.

  • The material used in this study is dielectric and ferrite. Because of the unique characteristics of the material, it is easily exposed to external shocks and pressure, which cause damage to the product. However, after being processed under high-temperature environment repeatedly, the mechanical strength of the product is greatly increased due to the change of the electrical properties. In this paper, dielectric and bonded ferrite material was tested for the material properties. The equipment for this experiment was produced and tested to allow Cylindrical and Three-dimensional geometry of the product for the vacuum deposition. For Cylindrical shape of the product, in order to obtain the equivalent film thickness, the device is constructed in a vacuum chamber which gives arbitrary revolving and rotating capability. The electrical performance of the product is obtained through this process as well. However, as mentioned above, with repeating processes under high temperature and exposure to external environment, the product is easy to be broken. This experiment has enabled us to find out a stable condition to apply the communication of the RF high frequency to each of the core elements, such as Ferrite and Dielectric which is then used for the mechanical strength of the Raw material, hetero-junction material, Hetero-junction Ag Coating material and hetero-junction Ag Coating SiO2 Coating material respectively.
