  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the concept of familial scoliosis through eight cases. Methods : The family tree was constructed with eight cases which was diagnosed idiopathic scoliosis by physical examination and radiological study. Results : According to the family tree of this sibs, idiopathic scoliosis apparently behaves as an autosomal dominant inheritance. As to parents and grandparents, although they are not confirmed the appearance of idiopathic scoliosis, we know that they transmit trait to their descendants as a genotype. Conclusions : This study is shown that idiopathic scoliosis has a familial condition and provided useful information that can be used early diagnosis and treatment with screen tests based on the family tree.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate abdominal muscles in chronic low back pain patients by meridian-electromyograph. Methods : Sample group of 11 with from low back pain during three months and control group of 10 subjects without low back pain have been recruited. Outcomes were assessed using meridian-electromyograph, visual analogue scale, and oswestry disability index. Results : Contraction power of external oblique abdominalis in control group was significantly higher than sample group, but there was no significant difference in muscle fatigue. Conclusions : According to above results, there are correlations between abdominal muscles and low back pain.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between cervical spine curvature and thermography on neck pain patients. Methods : The cervical spine curvature was assessed on lateral view of plain radiograph by three measurements(Depth of cervical curve, Method of Jochumsen, Angle of cervical curve), then the neck pain patients were divided into straight curvature group(Straight group), normal curvature group(Control I), and no neck pain group(Control II) was selected by random sampling. I measured temperature of the both side Pungji(風池, G20), Kyonjong(肩井, G21), Chonjong(天宗, SI11) by thermography examination on Experimental group(Straight group) and control group(Control I, II), then analyzed the temperature statically with student's t-test, ANOVA. Results : The temperature of six point on Straigt group was lower than that of Control I, but had no significant difference(p>0.05). The temperature of six point on Straigt group was lower than that of Control II. The descent of temperature on Lt. Pungji(風池, G20), Lt. Kyonjong(肩井, G21), Rt. Chonjong(天宗, SI11) had significance(p<0.05). There is no corelation between onset period and mean temperature of six points. Conclusions : Thermography represnets the presence of neck pain, but has no correlation with straight of cervical curvature.

  • Objectives : The 5th lumbar - 1st sacrum facet joint is unstable area from an anatomical viewpoint, so that it is clinically major causes of low back pain. The purpose of this study is to assess the difference of the Van Akkerveeken measurement and intervertebral disc angle, Ferguson angle between the 5th lumbar - 1st sacrum facet syndrome patients and sample group patients. Methods : Van Akkerveeken measurement, intervertebral disc angle and Ferguson angle were measured in 30 patients who had 5th lumbar - 1st sacrum facet syndrome and 31 sample group patients. Results : 1. Van Akkerveeken measurement of 5th lumbar - 1st sacrum facet syndrome patients is statistically larger that of than sample group patients. 2. Intervertebral disc angle of the 5th lumbar - 1st sacrum facet syndrome patients is statistically larger that of than sample group patients. 3. Ferguson angle is the 5th lumbar - 1st sacrum facet syndrome patients is statistically larger than that of sample group patients. Conclusions : These results suggest that Van Akkerveeken measurement and intervertebral disc angle is able to be used for diagnosis of facet syndrome.

  • Objectives : This study was designed to evaluate clinical effects of Hua-Tuo-Jia-Ji-Xue acupuncture treatment to neuropathic pain of patients with spinal cord injury. Methods : The clinical study was carried out 5 cases with spinal cord injury, who had been treated from December, 2008 to November, 2009 in the department of oriental rehabilitation medicine, Dong-Guk university oriental medical hospital. Results : After treating Hua-Tuo-Jia-Ji-Xue acupuncture, we find out that the VAS(Visual Analog Scale) score was significantly improved after treatment. Conclusions : These result suggest that Hua-Tuo-Jia-Ji-Xue acupuncture were effective to neuropathic pain of spinal cord injury patients.

  • Objectives : This study is designed to find out the influence of acupuncture treatments on Iliopsoas muscles of disc herniated patients. Method : Control group took usual acupuncture therapies and sample group took acupuncture therapies on their Iliopsoas muscles and usual acupuncture therapies. To Conclude the results, we studied Numerical Rating Scale(NRS) score and changes of SLR-test angle statistically. Results : The improvement rate of the group who took Iliopsoas muscles and usual acupuncture therapies was higher than the group who only took usual acupuncture therapies. Conclusion : In this study, we found out that the treatment on Iliopsoas muscles is effective to low back pain patients.
