Methods : The 52 patients were divided into 2 groups: a group was treated except Chuna treatment and B group was treated with Chuna treatment. Both groups were treated with acupuncture treatment. Patients were evaluated by visual analogue scale(VAS) and facial pain score scale(FPSC). Results : 1. Both groups were significantly decreased in VAS and FPSC after 4 weeks of treatment. 2. B group compared with A group was not significantly decreased in VAS and FPSC after 4 weeks of treatment. Conclusions : We found out that Chuna treatment and acupuncture is considered to be effective and useful on temporomandibular disorder.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to investigate the characteristic of ryodoraku in the chronic low back pain patients who visited department of oriental rehabilitation medicine. Methods : Subjects were 32 patients who visited department of oriental rehabilitation medicine(<60 years old). The low back pain patients were measured points of twelve meridians by ryodoraku diagnosis and checked the duration of low back pain. We compared the mean ryodoraku and the percentage of each points beyond the physiological range. Results : The score of H1(LU9), H2(PC7), H3(HT7), H5(TE4) and F5(GB40) had statistical differences compared with mean ryodoraku. And the correlation between duration of pain and mean ryodoraku showed statistically significant negative correlation(r=-0.353). Conclusions : These results suggest that ryodoraku maybe used to evaluate chronic low back pain patients.

  • Objective : The aim of this was to investigate the effect of warming acupuncture therapy on patients who had suffered from low back pain. Methods : The 42 person who had hospitalized in Jaseng hospital were rendomized into two groups. We treated 22 persons by warming acupuncture on every other day. The others were treated by only traditional acupuncture therapy alone. VAS(Visual Analogue Scale), ODI(Oswestry Disability Index) and the angle of SLR(Straight Leg Raising test) were measured on each week from admission for four weeks. Results : 1. Sample group showed significantly more improvement than control group at 3 weeks in ODI score. 2. Sample group showed significantly more improvement than control group at 2 weeks in VAS score. 3. The angle of SLR test was not significantly different between two groups, but there was a tendency of increasing on sample group. Conclusions : According to above results, warming acupuncture therapy was more effective on the treatment of low back pain than general oriental medical therapy without it.

  • Objectives : Herniated lumbar intervertebral disc is common reason causing back pain. Lumbar stabilization exercise prevent back pain recurrence by strengthening lumbar muscles. Sling Exercise Therapy(SET) is a system for spinal muscle stabilization and strengthening using fixed string and mobile band. The purpose of this study is to investigate and measure the effectiveness of SET and oriental medicine for Herniated lumbar intervertebral disc. Methods : The subjects for this study are 40 patients suffering from Herniated lumbar intervertebral disc in our clinic. They were measured and compared by Visual Analogue Scale(VAS), 4 grades of recovery degree and sex, age, period of disease, disc herniation type, times of exercise. Results : In the above index, the score(VAS, 4 grades of recovery degree) improved after treatments. But they make no difference between sex, age, period of disease, disc herniation type and times of exercise. Conclusions : These results suggest that SET may be used for Herniated lumbar intervertebral disc for pain management and muscle strengthening as an essential treatment regardless of sex, age, period of disease and disc herniation type.

  • Objectives The aim of this study is to analyse research trends about oriental obesity pattern identification in Korea. Methods We searched the papers with key words of 'obesity' and 'Pattern identification', 'Syndrom differentiation' in Korean database (Korean traditional knowledge portal, KISS, NDSL, DBPIA, KMBASE, Journal of Korean Medicine Rehabilitation, Journal of Korean Medicine for Obesity Research). We classified the papers by year and content. Results We reviewed 28 searched papers. Papers were published between 1992 and 2012. More than half of the total papers were published since 2008. There are 5 studies that focus on development and improvement of oriental obesity pattern identification questionnaire. 9 studies are research about using oriental obesity pattern identification questionnaire. 7 studies are research about Type of oriental obesity pattern identification. 4 studies are literature review of oriental obesity pattern identification. Other studies related to oriental obesity pattern identification are three. Conclusions To improve application and objectification about oriental obesity pattern identification, more clinical and oriental obesity pattern identification questionnaire studies are needed.

Results : Between smokers and non-smokers, statically significant differences were found in clinical symptoms on the time of 6 months later, effective scores of treatments, value of ODI and value of VAS on the time of 6 months later. And in these values of measurements, non-smokers were higher than those of smokers. Conclusion : These results suggest that possibility of the association between cigarette smoking and clinical outcomes of conservative treatment for lumbar herniated disc.
