Delirium is a acute syndrome of disorientation caused by disfunction of brain tissue and has a variety of symptomes. It is characterized by disturbance of consciousness and attention, cognition, and perception for a brief period of time and tends to fluctuate during the course of the day. We experienced a 56 year-old woman who had a hypertension as well as Delirium caused by cranial contusion and whose condition was improved by Oriental medical treatment. this case study illustrates what the manifestation of Delirium caused by cranial contusion. This study shows more objective mecical pregress by grading Korean version of Delirium Rating Scale(K-DRS) and Korean version of Mini-Mental State Examination(K-MMSE). After our treatments, Delirium and some other symptoms were improved.

Objectives : This case report presents a 68-year-old female patient. Her chief complaint was fatigue and depressed mood. During the therapeutic period, she experienced a sudden onset of unconsciousness. After two days, she became alert. We diagnosed her with conversion disorder. Methods : We treated her with Korean traditional herbal medicine (Chungsimyeonja-eum, Soum-In Bojungyikgi-tang, Hyeongbangjiwhang-tang) and oriental psychotherapy for 21 days. The effects of treatment were measured by Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Zung Depression Rating Scale (SDS), and State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-X-1). Results : After treatment, the chief complaint and accompanying symptoms have been subsided and improved. Further, BDI, SDS, STAI-X-1 score were decreased. Conclusions : In this case, we recognized that Korean traditional herbal medicine and oriental psychotherapy could be effective for clinical symptoms of conversion disorder.

Recently, usual minor stress is getting more important in somatization disorder. This study is a clinical report of a patient with somatization disorder induced by stress treated with typical orintal medical therapy reinforcing the weakness of heart and gall blaader(Herb-med, acupunture, etc.) in combination with EFT. STAI, BDI were compared between before and after treatment. The results show the typical onntal medical therapy reinforcing the weakness of heart and gall blaader in combination with EFT is efficient in the treatment of Somatization disorder.

Objective : The Korean famous medicinal prescription of Subi-jeon was investigated for their antidepressant effects by tail suspension test, hot plate test, reserpine-induced hypothermia test. In addition, the monoamine oxidase activity was determined in vivo. Methods : The methanol extract reduced dose-dependently the duration of immobility in the tail suspension test, by 31.4 and 34%(p<0.05) at doses of 500mg/kg and 1g/kg, respectively, compared with control group. In comparison with this, the effect of the water extract was very weak. Results : 1. In the hot plate test, the methanol extract potently increased the jump latency time(p<0.05) compared to the control group, exhibiting the inhibition rate of 197% and 256% at doses of 500mg/kg and 1g/kg(per os), respectively, which is more effective than the water extract. 2. Both extracts suppressed the fall of body temperature induced by reserpine(reserpine-induced hypothermia) in a dose-dependent manner, showing the less effect at lower doses and better effect at higher doses compared to the water extract. 3. Both extracts inhibited the brain monoamine oxidase activity in an in vivo assay compared to the control group, the activity of water extract was better than that of the methanol extract. Conclusion : The prescription of Subi-jeon can be useful for the prevention and treatment of depression.

Pain disorder is a category of somatoform disorder that be diagnosed when the pain is starting and getting worse associated with psychological factors. At the recent study, it revealed that stress might be more strong factor in occurring and sustaining the somatoform disorder. In this case, a 42 years old female patient had a chronic pain disorder 3 years ago, suddenly complained of an eyeball pain due to retina rupture induced by severe stress. In the view of oriental medicine, pain disorder belongs to GuQiJakTongJung. So, we diagnosed her state as GuQiJakTongJung and treated her such as herbal medicine, acupuncture and phlebotomy therapy. In result, the chronic pain of the patient was improved, and also general condition was getting better.

Objectives : This study was designed to report the effect of korean traditional treatment and person-centered counseling for poststroke depression Methods : We treated two patients who scored 37 point and 32 point at Beck's depression inventory each, and 23 point and 22 point at Hamilton rating scale for depression each by korean traditional treatment and person-centered counseling, Results : After treatment, the clinical symptoms were improved and Beck's depression inventory, Hamilton rating scale for depression score were decreased, Conclusions : The result suggest that korean traditional treatment and person-centered counseling is effective in patients with poststroke depression.

Objectives : This study was performed to change of blood flow in In-Young(ST9) after treatment on chronic daily headache patients. Methods : Monitoring of TCD was examined in 10' s chronic daily headache patients before and after treatment. Mean velocity flow, systolic velocity and pulsatility index were analyzed from TCD at In-Young(ST9). The patients was laid for 20 minutes before treatment and also for treatment. Results : The results showed a significant(p<0.05: Paired T-test) decrease in mean velocity flow and systolic velocity. but there were no significant differences in pulsatility index. Conclusions : These results suggest that there were significant change on blood flow in In-young of chronic daily headache patients.

Recent studies indicate that the deposition of ${\beta}$-amyloid ($A{\beta}$) is associated with the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), but the underlying mechanism is not clear yet. To investigate the effects of Jangwonhwangagambang (JWHG) extract on AD pathogenicity, we have generated transgenic Drosophila model in which GMR-APP-GAL4/UAS-GRIM system was designed to overexpress amyloid precursor protein(APP), We examined fly's survival ratio, flight behavior, and morphological patterns of chest and eye. We found that JWHG treatment improved fly's survival ratio by inhibiting apoptosis and flight behavior. APP-GRIM transgenic flies treated with JWHG showed had significantly lower levels of APP deposition in the chest and eye compared to control animals. JWHG treatment further inhibited chest and eye degeneration. These results suggest that JWHG prevents APP-induced neurotoxicity, and thus may be applicable for the development of preventive or therapeutic agents for AD treatment.

Objectives : In this case report, we will present a patient with dementia with Lewy bodies improved by application of oriental medical treatments. Methods : A 82 year-old female patient has been suffered by dementia with Lewy bodies for 7~8 years. We treated the patient with Herbal medication and acupuncture. The effects of treatment were measured by MMSE-K (Mini-Mental State Examination-K). Results : As a result of oriental treatments, the quality of sleep was improved, also the level of cognition was improved. Conclusions : These results suggest that oriental treatments have an effect on Dementia with Lewy bodies.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Needle-Embedding Therapy on dementia patients. Methods : We recruited 3 dementia patients who have been experiencing memory disorder and orientation disorder. The patients had been evaluated with Mini-Mental State Examination-K (MMSE-K), Global Deterioration Scale (GDS) and Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR). The patients were treated with herbal medication (Sunghyangjunggi-san) and acupuncture. After 15 days, the patients were added to Needle-Embedding Therapy. We measured MMSE-K, GDS and CDR for every 15 days. The effects of additional Needle-Embedding Therapy were compared with the effects of acupuncture and herbal medicine. Results : After Needle-Embedding Therapy was added, Patients' memory and orientation have been improved and the score of MMSE-K ascended. The grade of GDS and CDR were maintained or decreased. Conclusions : This study suggests that Needle-Embedding Therapy is significantly effective on Dementia patients.
