Objective : The relations of the heart size and seven emotions were described in Dong Yi Bo Gam, and we aimed to identify the correlations of the patients with anxiety disorder and their heart sizes. Methods : The subjects were 15 patients with anxiety disorder and 20 control groups. Chest radiography were performed. We measured patients' heart sizes and compared with control groups. Results : 1. The signigicant difference of somatization, anxiety, depression scale and Panic anxiety scale in SCL-90-R in patients with anxiety disorder from controls was confirmed. 2. The difference of thoracic sizes in patients with anxiety disorder and controls had no correlations. 3. The difference of heart sizes in patients with anxiety disorder and controls had no correlations. 4. The difference of cardiothoracic ratio in patients with anxiety disorder and controls had negative correlations. Conclusions : Based on these results, the patients with anxiety disorders and their heart sizes had no correlations. But in cardiothoracic ratio had negative correlations. So heart size and seven emotions have significant correlation.

This case report presents a 34-year-old female patient. Her chief complaints are akinetic mutism and cognitive dysfunctions. We have diagnosed her with leukoencephalopathy. She was treated with Korean traditional herbal medicines (Joojackwhan) for 33 days continuously. The effects of treatment were measured by the Korean Mini - Mental State Examination and Modified Bathel Index. After treatment, her chief complaints have been improved. Furthermore, the K-MMSE, MBI scores increased. From this case, we deduced that the Korean traditional herbal medicines (Joojackwhan) could be effective for cognitive dysfunctions and akinetic mutism caused by leukoencephalopathy.

Objectives : We investigated if korean traditional treatment and psychotherapy is effective in patients with depression and menopausal symptoms. Methods : We treated two patients with typical korean traditional medical treatment( Acupuncture, Giungoroen therapy(至言高論療法), Moxibustion ) and progressive muscle relaxation. Results : After treatment, the chief complaint and accompanying symptoms were subsided and improved. BDI score and Kupperman's index were decreased. Conclusions : We may conclude that korean traditional treatment and psychotherapy is effective in patients with depression and menopausal symptoms.

Objectives: In order to investigate personality of oriental medical students by MMPI elementarily. Methods: This study was done by comparing the score of MMPI and Sasang questionnaire. The scores of MMPI and Sasang were verified by examination of T-test and Tukey's HSD Procedure. Results: 1. According to comparison between male and female, there is no meaning. But between unmarried group and married group, there is a difference of MMPI T-scores for L, K-scale significantly. 2. In the distinction of sex and marriage between A group and B group, the MMPI T-scores of male and unmarried group have more significance on the various scale. 3. According to comparative anaylsis of MMPI and Sasang questionnaire, Um group(Tae-um, So-um group) showed significant results in D(Depression), PT(Psychasthenia), SI(Social Introversion) scales of the MMPI. 4. In comparison between the temperament of Sasang and analysis of MMPI profile, Tae-um and So-um groups showed many similarities. Conclusion: According to the above results, it is considered that MMPI can be applied to classification of constitution.

Bibliotherapy is the field of clinical counceling to treat the emotional, psychiatric and social maladjustment. Neurofeedback is a means by which participants can team voluntary control of the EEG and has been applied to a range of clinical conditions such as epilepsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, depressive disorder. 'Ul-zeong' comes from obstruction of qi by stress. The mind affect the body. The patient has depressed mood, irritable sign, chest discomfort, flank pain, angry state and some strange feeling on the throat. In this case, a female patient, 30 years old, who complained of amnesia, deficiency of the power of the attention and concentration depersonalization, depressed mood, insomnia ect. We treated the patient with bibliotherapy, neurofeedback and oriental medical treatment such as heral medicine, acupuncture treatment and aroma therapy. In result, the symptoms which she complained were improved.

Objective : We aimed to study the relationship between the post-stroke depression and acceptance of the stroke. Method : For this study, 80 stroke patients were surveyed by using questionnaires for CES-D, acceptance for stroke, and social support. Result & Conclusion : 1. Acceptance for stroke varied inversely as the post-stroke depression. 2. The acceptance for the stroke appeased the negative influence caused by the stress of the stroke, and the post-stroke depression was biggest predictable variant. And location of the stroke were the predictable variants of the post-stroke depression. 3. When the gender, location of the stroke, motor power, age, period of stroke, and social support were controlled, the group with depression and the one without depression had a significant difference in the acceptance of the stroke.

Objectives : Sleep Disorders are very common in clinical stages and there are many reports and papers regarding this subject. I try to understand the present state of sleep research in JON (The Journal of Oriental Neuropsychiatry) for the benefits of clinical practice. Methods : We searched and read every article on JON from 1990 to 2012 and selected ones that are related to Sleep Disorder; then analyzed the data to 5 categories, like literature study, case study, Clinical Data-Analysis study, experimental study, and clinical trial. Results : 1. We Found 41 articles relating to sleep disorder in JON form 1999 to 2012, and there were 9 literature studies, 13 case studies, 13 Clinical Data-Analysis studies, 4 experimental studies, and 2 clinical trials. 2. There were Sa-Am Acupuncture Method, Pharmacopuncture, electroacupuncture, and Auricular acupuncture to treat Sleep Disorder. 3. There were many additional treatments like Purgative Therapy, etc. 4. They reported the ordinary sleep pattern of Soeumin and Soyangin, too. 5. In the experimental study, they reported several herbs, herbal prescription on the expression of melatonin receptors, and Punsimgeimgamibang on insomnia, anxiety, emotionality in rats. 6. There were 2 clinical trials, one for Hwabyung-patient with insomnia by acupuncture treatment and another for insomnia in the elderly by ETF-I program. 7. There were 2 case of other sleep disorder (enuresis, sleepwalking) and 2 literature study of dream. Conclusions : In JON regarding sleep disorder, the majority was due to insomnia. Therefore, we also have to expand our sight into other sleep diseases. We need more clinical trials and experimental researches for the construction of EBM Sleep Disorder in Oriental Neuropsychiatry.

Objectives : This case series was conducted to report the efficacy of Ondam-tanggami for insomnia. Methods : Insomnia patients with more than 15 points on Insomnia Severity Index scale were assessed using SCL-90-R, STAI, STAXI, BDI. Being treated with Ondam-tanggami after 2 weeks, ISI, STAI, STAXI, BDI were re-measured to determine the progress of insomnia. It is measured that total sleep time, number of awaking times during sleep, satisfaction of sleep daily. Results : After treatment, quality of sleep has improved and ISI, STAI, STAXI, BDI score have decreased. Conclusions : According to the study, treatment with Ondam-tanggami for insomnia has shown positive results. Further use of Ondam-tanggami is much anticipated for future treatment of insomnia cases.

Objectives The purpose of this study was to introduce Chinese Taoist Cognitive Psychotherapy (CTCP), a psychotherapy based on Oriental culture, and review related research to understand its efficacy.Methods Relevant articles were searched from CNKI, WANFANG, Pubmed, EMBASE, AMED and CENTRAL.Results Thirty-seven studies were selected based on our inclusion criteria, which included 31 RCTs. The overall risk of bias of the RCTs was unclear or high. In the total relevant studies, the target diseases were most commonly depression and anxiety disorder. Generally, CTCP combined with Western medicine was significantly more effective than prescribing medicine alone.Conclusions CTCP can be useful for several psychiatric disorders including depression and anxiety disorder; however, more high-quality clinical trials are needed to confirm its efficacy.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of Sunhyangjungkisan on the learning and memory ability in rats. For this purpose we have evoked cerebral dysfunction in rats with NOS inhibitor and then performed the Morris water maze task for each rat. We have found that Sunghyangjungkisan have some improving effedts on impaired learning and memort ability in the NOS inhibitor treated rat. In these improving effects, memory effect was more evident then learning effect. This result implies that Sunghyangjungkisan may be one of useful prescriptions for treatment of vascular dementia after cerebral ischemia.
