We conduct a survey of actual condition of medical devices in korea traditional medicine on 157 oriental medicine doctors and 183 manufacturers. The 61% percent of doctors indicate the trouble in use of medical devices which is applied to korea traditional medicine. The manufacturers replied that devices have a problem with diagnosis(53%) and treatment(36%). To overcome these problems, it is necessary to develop devices based on the study of basic oriental medicine and the reliable clinical research. This study contributes the improvement of quality and the revision of rules on medical devices.

This study was investigated to determine the quality monitoring of distributed materials from Glycyrrhizae Radix (26 samples), Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba (24 samples) according to storage period after $1{\sim}3$ year. We have estimated by identification, purity, loss on drying, ash, acid insoluble ash, extract content, essential oil content, assay and microbial contamination. As a result, Glycyrrhizae Radix (26 samples) were satisfied with the standard of K.P. (Korean Pharmacopoeia) and WHO's microbial contamination limit standard. In the Atractylodis Rhizoma Alba (24 samples), 2 samples were not satisfied with the standard of K.P.(Korean Pharmacopoeia) and WHO's microbial contamination limit standard. The results make practical application of the basic data for the quality control of herbal medicine in storage.

In this paper, we designed and implemented a semantic social network system in Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (abbreviated as KIOM). Our social network system provides the capabilities such as tracking search, ontology reasoning, ontology graph view, and personal information input, update and management. Tracking search provides the search results by the research information of relevant researchers using ontology, in addition to those by keywords. Ontology reasoning provides the reasoning for experts, mentors, and personal contacts. Users can easily browse the personal connections among researchers by traversing the ontology by graph viewer. These allows KIOM researchers to search other researchers who could aid the researches and to easily share their research information.

This article examines the origin and growth of Jecheon Herbal Market(JHM). JHM was established in 1928 at the Jecheon Market Main causes of the growth of JHM is widely considered as the fact that it was located to the sources of herbal product, domestic or wild, and its convenient access in transportation aspect. Since the Independence of Korea, the control of the import of herbal medications from abroad served for the main factor of JHM's growth. Nowadays JHM is estimated as second to Gyungdong Herbal Market in total. However, among production-oriented markets it has been ranked first.

Background and Purpose: The purpose of this study was investigate statistical validities of previously reported articles that used various statistical techniques such as t-test and analysis of variance. Methods: To analyze the statistical procedures, 66 original articles using those statistical methods were selected from "Korean Journal of Oriental Medicine(KJOM)" published from 1995 to 2007. Results: Twenty-one articles(32%) did not report correct p-values, 33 articles(50%) used mean${\pm}$standard error(mean${\pm}$SE) and 11 articles(l7%) used mean${\pm}$standard deviation(mean${\pm}$SD). Fifty-two articles(95%) of 55 ones which were tested for normal distribution made an error in describing normal distribution. Seventeen articles misused t-test and 12 articles did not carry out the multiple comparison. Conclusions: The training of researchers with clinical statistics or the participation of statisticians in research design will reduce the significant errors in statistical interpretation of the results.

This Study is to propose the method about statistical factor from the old oriental medical record in Korea. This Study reviews the statistical analysis recently published in the old oriental medical books which are in the Research Report by the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine at 2007. The results reveal a disease factors, prescription factors.medicines factors, population factors and historical factors by the statistics. The results show that the old oriental medical record for a information system need the interpreting with a information analysts, a statistics analysts and an oriental medical doctors.

Objective : This study was aimed to review the trend of clinical research articles of acupuncture and moxibustion from the year of 1995 to 2006. Methods : The retrieving and analyzing period were from January 1995 to July 2006. Articles were collected by retrieving Pubmed database. Search terms were as follows; 'Acupuncture', 'Acupuncture & Meridian', 'Moxibustion'. After reviewing articles by our pre-defined criteria, Correlation was assessed qualitatively between contents of the final selected articles and those of Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine. Results : The number of acupuncture research articles have increased with higher rate since the year of 2000. In the field of medical devices, the articles were sparsely existed. The percentage of clinical acupuncture research articles was 75%. However, in the category of Korean investigators' researches, it was 46%. Publications by Korean investigators were concentrated to several specific journals of which their impact factor were below 1 point. Conclusion : There needs more qualifying studies in acupuncture studies which are represented by impact factor in Journal Citation Reports. It is necessary to research and develop the medical devices quantatively rating the outcome of acupuncture trials. The secondary research, such as, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, would be a key approach to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture treatments. Moxibustion research would be noticeable in regard to its historical effectiveness and its variable indications.

Oriental medicine statistics are essential in research planning, research evaluation, and policy decision based on objective data. However, integrated administration of such statistics is not presently possible in the oriental medicine field, which has been slow in incorporating information communication technology. In an effort to address this problem, the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM) developed an oriental medicine statistical system in 2009, and the system has been offered in the traditional medicine information portal of OASIS. However, according to a 2010 survey targeting OASIS users, those surveys reported that needs for a system where various statistical data can be extracted via an interactive approach to multidimensional data. As a result of an analysis of the functions of the existing system, it was found that it is necessary to array and arithmetically analyze Stats Value, Drill Up & Drill Down, and Pivot. To this end, the existing DB schema should be redesigned. Based on our analysis result, we redesigned the database into a structure that is applicable to the reverse pivot algorithm. We used J2EE/JSP and a Flex framework to design and develop an oriental medicine statistical system that can provide multidimensional statistical data. Considering that the improved oriental medicine statistical system is planned to be offered by OASIS of KIOM, utilization and value of oriental medicine statistical data are expected to be enhanced.

Although the theory of Sasang Consititution is widely used in oriental clinic, there is only conceptual definition about the constitution not technical definition which is consented by every experts. In the present, the effect and different responses of constitutional medicines is the most widely accepted criteria among technical definitions. However, these medicines consist of several herbs which are included specific constitution. So, it is hard to define the characters about the Sasang Constitution through analysis of the medicines. In this paper, we collected the various information about the constitutional herbs, and constructed database and web application for accessing this information. It is useful and can be basis for finding the characteristics of constitutional medicines.

There are various treatment methods in traditional tales concerning Heo jun. Among these tales We will introduce cases connected with Gwakhyangjeonggisan. In this treatise We will not lay great emphasis on significance in oriental medicine but on significance of traditional tale. This study will provide some research material on traditional medicine.
