  • This study presents the experimental results of the Friction Stir Welding (FSW) of AA6063 aluminum alloy and AISI304 stainless steel butt joint by varying the welding parameters such as the rotating speed and the welding speed. The main results are as follows. The variation of the welding parameters produced various characteristic interfaces and had distinct influences on the joint properties. Increasing the rotating speed and the welding speed decreased the joint tensile strength because it produced the defect on the joint interface. The optimum welding parameter that could produce the sound joint was a rotating speed of 750 rpm and the welding speed of 102 mm/min with the tensile strength of 71 MPa.

  • The article aims to apply a friction stir spot welding for producing the lap joint between AA5052 aluminum alloy and C11000 copper alloy. The dimension of the materials was 100 mm in length, 30 mm in width and 1.0 mm in thickness. The copper plate was set overlap the aluminum plate by 30 mm. The welding parameter was the rotating speed of 2500-4000 rpm, the pin inserting rate of 2-8 mm/min and the holding time of 6 sec. The mechanical properties test and the microstructure investigation were performed to evaluate the lap joint quality. The summarized results are as follows. The friction stir spot welding could produce effectively the lap joint between AA5052 and C11000 copper. Increase of the rotating speed and holding time directly affected to decrease the tensile shear strength of the lap joint. The optimized welding parameters in this study that indicated the tensile shear strength of 864 N was the rotating speed of 3500 rpm, the pin inserting rate of 6 mm/min and the holding time of 4sec. The experimental results also showed that the hardness of the weld metal was lower than that of the base materials.

  • Additive manufacturing (AM) is a highly innovative method for joining dissimilar materials for industrial applications. In the present work, AM of STS630 and Ti-6Al-4V powder alloys on medium entropy alloys (MEAs) NiCrCo and NiCrCoMn is studied. The STS630 and Ti64 powders are deposited on the MEAs. Joint delamination and cracks are observed after the deposition of Ti64 on the MEAs, whereas the deposition of STS630 on the MEAs is successful, without any cracks and joint delamination. The microstructure around the fusion zone interface is characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. Intermetallic compounds are formed at the interfacial regions of MEA-Ti64 samples. In addition, Vicker's hardness value increased dramatically at the joint interface between MEAs and Ti-6Al-4V compared to that between MEAs and STS630. This result is attributed to the brittle nature of the joint, which can lead to a decrease in the joint strength.

  • According to the research report for the recent a few years, the dissimilar welding of Cu and STS 304 alloy have been presented that a weldability is very poor. This article present a study on Lap joint by Electron beam welding dissimilar materials. The weld metals was constituted between pure copper and STS 304 steel. The experiment was performed with 125mA welding current, 520mA focusing current. The Vacuum condition of chamber is 5${\times}$10-5torr and welding speed is 300mm/min. Showing the bead shape of weld metal, the thickness of the stainless 304 using as the protect materials is 3mm and the thickness of a copper is 15mm. The analysis about the microstructure were carried out in which it was observed with SEM. The results showed that complex heterogeneous fusion zone microstructure characterized both by rapid cooling and mixing of the molten metal, however the liquation crack was formated in the fusion line.

  • The spot weldability of metal joints between SD35 and SD30A steel was investigated. This study was aimed to determine the spot welding parameters (i.e. welding current and time) for reinforcement bar joint and to evaluate the weldability, mechanical strength, hardness and microstructure. The results indicated that shear strength and elongation of the welding joints at 12.5kA and 1000 ms were 26.7 $kgf/mm^2$ and 22%, respectively. And fracture distribution of them by using shear and tensile test showed 100% necking mode and 100% ductile mode, respectively.

  • This study is concerned with a correlation of microstructure and local brittle zone (LBZ) in offshore structural steel welds. The influence of the LBZ on fracture toughness was investigated by means of simulated heat-affected zone (HAZ) tests as well as welded joint tests. Micromechanical processes involved in void and cleavage microcrack formation were also identified using notched round tensile tests and subsequent SEM observations. The LBZ in the HAZ of a multiphase welded joint is the interstitially reheated coarse grained HAZ, which is influenced by metallurgical factors such as effective grain size, the major matrix structure and the amount of high-carbon martensite-austenite (M-A) constituents. The experimental results indicate that Chirpy energy was found to scale monotonically with the amount of M-A constituents, confirming that the M-A constituent is the major microstructural factor controlling the HAZ toughness. In addition, voids and microcracks are observed to initiate at M-A constituents by the shear cracking process. Thus, the M-A constituent played an important role in initiating the voids and microcracks, and consequently caused brittle fracture.

  • The bonding phenomena and mechanical property of duplex stainless steel during brazing have been investigated. The UNS32550 was used for base metal, and the MBF50 was used for insert metal. Brazing was carried out under the various conditions (brazing temperature : 1473K, 1498K, holding time : 0∼1.8ks). There were various microconstituents in the bonded interlayer because of reaction between liquid insert metal and base metal. In the early stage of brazing, BN is formed in the bonded interlayer and base metal near the bonded layer. Cr made is formed in the bonded interlayer. The amount of BN and Cr nitrides decrease with the increase of bonding temperature and holding time. Superior shear strength of 550MPa is obtained by restraining the formation of nitrides. • In this experiment, to find optimum brazing conditions for Cu/Stainless Steel brazing using filler metals of Ag-Cu-Zn-Cd system, first of all spreading ratio was tested on 304 stainless Steel and low carbon steel. And then shear test of brazed joint was executed. As the result of that, the shear strengths of brazed joints were the range of 60-90 MPa. Through microstructure analysis for brazed interface layer, We found as follows. Firstly interface layer increased as time increased. Secondly continuous layer of Ag-Cd compound was observed along the side of stainless steel. Also by means of EDS analysis for fracture surface, ductile fracture was occurred and precipitates on the fracture surface were found to include Cr, Mn, Si in Ag-rich phase.

  • Brazing Mo using Ti and Ti-15-3 foils has been investigated in the experiment. For traditional furnace brazing, solidification shrinkage voids cannot be completely removed from the joint even the brazing temperature increased to 2013 K and 160 ${\mu}m$ thick Ti foil applied in brazing. Similar results are observed from the joint using Ti-15-3 filler. In contrast, the quality of laser brazed joint is much better than that of furnace brazed joint. A sound joint is achieved after laser brazing. Tensile strengths of 418 and 373 MPa are obtained from laser brazed joints at the power of 800W and travel speed of 5 mm/s using Ti and Ti-15-3 fillers, respectively. All laser brazed joints are fractured at the brazed zone and cleavage dominated fractures are widely observed from their fractographs. The Ti base fillers show potential in laser brazing Mo substrate.
