  • The era of digital transformation (or the fourth industrial revolution) has been triggered by the rapid development of software (SW) technologies. In this era, several studies suspected rapid changes in job structures occurring around the world. Thus, there is a growing need for acquiring the skill sets required for the future. However, there are no specific studies on how existing jobs are changing. To cope with this ambiguity of job changes, this paper aims to investigate how the current job structure is changing in response to digital transformation. To identify the dynamic nature of job change over time, we conducted an analysis based on job posting data. As a result, nine job occupations and fifteen jobs were found.

  • As social distancing is implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19, there is an increasing number of workers participating in telework. This study aims to classify the feasibility of working at home for occupations and industries based on physical working conditions, and to analyze regional distribution of the teleworkable jobs. And the raw data of the Korea Working Conditions Survey is used to examine working environment and characteristics of jobs. The main findings show that 35% of jobs in South Korea can be done at home, and the occupations that are less amenable to work at home are closely related to the economically vulnerable workers who earn low wages. Furthermore, the regions that are heavily dependent on manufacturing for employment are likely to have a lower share of jobs that can be done at home due to the industrial structure and working conditions.

  • Supercomputers are used for many different areas including new product design of industries as well as state-of-the-art science and technology for large amount of computational needs. Tachyon is a 4th supercomputer built at KISTI that is a high-performance parallel computing system with 3,200 computing nodes and infrastructures. This system is currently about 10,000 users and over 170 organizations are used, the number of jobs they are performing work in batch type form through a scheduler. Also, this system logs lots of job scripts, execution environment, library, job status from the job submit to end. In this paper, we analyzed batch jobs information from Sun Grid Engine, that use as a scheduler in Tachyon system, and job executed information in Tachyon System. In particular, we distinguished the fail jobs from the all tasks that users perform and we analyzed the cause of failure. Among them, we can extracted some of jobs that can be regarded as normal jobs through the improvement in those works logged as all of fail jobs.

  • With respect to the quantity, quality and social value of forest jobs, we have developed three major criteria and 11 indicators for evaluating decent forest jobs. The importance and weighted value of the criteria and indicators were investigated through a survey which was conducted on 50 experts involved in Governmental Forest Job Committee, academic and different groups of communities. The 35 experts responded to the survey chose the 'job creation potential' as the most important criterion, and they recognized the 'job quality' has a relatively higher importance than the 'social contribution'. The survey results showed that 'political will' and 'job security' have the highest weighted values among indicators while 'wage level' has the lowest value. The developed criteria and indicators are able to be used as a means of evaluating degree of decent forest jobs for both new and existing jobs.

  • Despite the importance of manufacturing to the national economy, the sharp decline in the share of employment is a common problem faced by developed countries, including Korea. In particular, science and technology jobs are important in terms of policy because they are directly related to the quality of employment and industrial competitiveness, but previous research on this is insignificant. This study analyzed the effects of new product development, new process development, open innovation, and government R&D support on science and technology job creation after subdividing manufacturing industry by technology regime. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the development of new products contributed to the expansion of science and technology jobs, but the development of new processes decreased science and technology jobs. In addition, open innovation has the effect of reducing science and technology jobs due to outsourcing of research and development functions, and government R&D support contributes to creating science and technology jobs in traditional industries with low demand for technological innovation.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is at the forefront of present and future research activities. The huge amount of sensing data from IoT devices needing to be processed is increasing dramatically in volume, variety, and velocity. In response, cloud computing was involved in handling the challenges of collecting, storing, and processing jobs. The fog computing technology is a model that is used to support cloud computing by implementing pre-processing jobs close to the end-user for realizing low latency, less power consumption in the cloud side, and high scalability. However, it may be that some resources in fog computing networks are not suitable for some kind of jobs, or the number of requests increases outside capacity. So, it is more efficient to decrease sending jobs to the cloud. Hence some other fog resources are idle, and it is better to be federated rather than forwarding them to the cloud server. Obviously, this issue affects the performance of the fog environment when dealing with big data applications or applications that are sensitive to time processing. This research aims to build a fog topology job scheduling (FTJS) to schedule the incoming jobs which are generated from the IoT devices and discover all available fog nodes with their capabilities. Also, the fog topology job placement algorithm is introduced to deploy jobs into appropriate resources in the network effectively. Finally, by comparing our result with the state-of-art first come first serve (FCFS) scheduling technique, the overall execution time is reduced significantly by approximately 20%, the energy consumption in the cloud side is reduced by 18%.

  • This study investigated the experiences of baby boomers' social participation through social contribution jobs after retirement, using content analysis. The baby boomers who participated in social contribution jobs after retirement showed a strong desire to work, and were provided with rewarding and self-development, which resulted in family members viewing job participation positively. In addition, through self-help groups and communities, they shared information for the program and formed a social relationship. However, they expressed dissatisfaction with the instability and discontinuity of the job with low salary, with job interview repeated every year. As for the future direction, it is necessary that jobs utilize the skills and expertise of the baby boomers, the bridging jobs as an income guarantee after retirement, and the promotion of industries with marketability and publicness through institutional and regulatory reform. It is emphasized that the human resources of the retired baby boomers should be actively utilized with the governmental support.
