Telecommunication Company A's Selection System Case Based on the Core Competencies (핵심역량에 기초한 A 통신사의 선발시스템 사례연구)

  • It is very important to select the best employees who are suitable for their jobs and duties as considering the efficiency and productivity of the firms' performance. As a result, many kinds of selection methodologies and systems have been developed. Among them is the selection system based on the core competencies which is known as the superior selection systems that can increase the predictive validity who is the right people, compared to the traditional selection system based on the job analysis. Hence, the former has been focused in the complex business situation in recent years. In this case study, we examine the selection system case based on the core competencies of OSS team in Company A, which is one of the largest telecommunication firms and we suggest the implications. According to the results of this case study, defining the core competencies of the job and selecting the right people who had the related competencies not only decreased the turnover rate of OSS team in Company A, but also increased the employees' loyalty and satisfaction for the organizations. This study will be a benchmark to other departments that don't use competency selection system of Company A as well as the firms that want to adapt the selection system based on the core competencies. Also, this case study has a contribution that shows us an alternative model how can the firms identify and select the best right employees.

Nursing Competency And Indicator Development By Emergency Nurse's Clinical Ladder (응급실 간호사의 임상 등급(clinical ladder)에 따른 간호역량 및 행동지표 개발)

  • Purpose: This study was to develop nursing competencies, sub-competencies and behavior indicators according to the clinical ladder of emergency nurses. Method: index of content validation was used by 21 clinical experts. Results: This study had three phases to develop nursing competencies, sub-competencies and behavior indicators. In first phase: 12 nursing competencies and 33 sub-competencies were developed through the literature review on nursing competency and emergency nurses' job description. The content of 12 competencies and 33 sub-competencies were reviewed by 3 nursing professors. The 12 competencies and 33 sub-competencies were followed: clinical judgement and measures(6 sub-competencies), processing ability of ward works(2 sub-competencies), flexibility(2 sub-competencies), resources management(2 sub-competencies), confidence(3 sub-competencies), cooperation(2 sub-competencies), professional development power(2 sub-competencies), patient service orientation(3 sub-competencies), inclination toward ethical value(5 sub-competencies), influence power(2 sub-competencies), developing others(2 sub-competencies), self control(2 sub-competencies). In second phase, 132 behavior indicators were developed according to nurse clinical ladder: novice, advanced novice, competent, proficient. In Third phase, content validity was examined on 132 behavior indicators by 21 clinical experts. 126 among 132 indicators had over 70% agreement among experts and 6 indicators under 70% were revised. Conclusion: nursing competencies, sub competencies and behavior indicators can be used nurses' clinical performance as well as establishing proper directions for professional growth related to reward system.

  • This study analysed the librarian competencies and job type to identify the present state of required librarians and to suggest the direction for education in the organization of information. As the result of investigation 278 job announcement, the traditional qualifications and the knowledge of new standard and S/W related electronic resources are required. The job type divided between cluster for the traditional demands and cluster for electronic resources and information technology. It proposed the expansion of education related electronic resources and information technology, the balance of theory and practice, and the adoption of new teaching method for education in the organization of information.

Competency Re-modelling & Application Plans for Development of Job Competency in RI-Biomics (RI-Biomics 기술 직무역량 개발을 위한 역량모델 재정립 및 활용)

  • RI-Biomics technology is advanced convergence technologies that can be measured in real time and track in vivo behavior and metabolism of substances using characteristics of the radioactive isotope. Its application fields are increasing such as drug development, agriculture, development of new materials and their utilization, etc. In addition, according to domestic and international developments and changes in the RI-Biomics environment, RI-Biomics professionals are needed to train continuously. To develop systematic human resources basement and competency-based curriculum, we perform competency modeling of pedagogical perspective to targeted at high-performance on RI-Biomics. Furthermore, we redefine the competency model and verified by industry experts with focus group interviews. In the result, two general competencies and three professional competencies were extracted by interview. Each competencies are organized six sub-competencies and nine sub-competencies. In the finial steps, the same procedures were repeated to obtain the consensus of experts on derived competencies and behavioral objectives. The results of the study are applicable to enhance human resource management and to develop the curriculum for RI-Biomics expert training. It is expected to be used as reference material of long term-planning for RI-Biomics professional.

A Study on the Parental Perception of Children's Competencies (아동의 생활능력에 대한 부모의 지각에 관한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to examine the correlations of children's competencies perceived by fathers and mothers, and to investigate differences of children's competencies in relations to characters of the children and that of the parents. The subjects were 225 pairs of father-mother of 7 and of 12 year old children in Daejon. The major findings were as follows. (1) Children's competencies perceived by fathers and mothers were positively correlated with each other. (2) The gender of child affected much on father-perceived esthetic and musical competencies, and on mother-perceived responsible, intellectual, esthetic, and musical competencies. Child's age also had a great effect on father- and mother-perceived esthetic competencies of child. (3) There were no significant differences in children's competencies in relations to characters of parents except in father-perceived responsible competence by fathers' age and in intellectual competencies by income, and in mother-perceived social competences by mothers' job.

An Exploratory Study on the Career Competencies among the Middle-aged Employment Vulnerable Groups (중장년 고용취약계층의 경력역량 탐색 연구)

  • This study was conducted to explore the career competencies among the middle-aged employment vulnerable groups and to provide the basis for systematic career development and human resource development for the middle-aged and employment vulnerable groups. Interviews and expert advice for the middle-aged (40-64 years old) employment vulnerable groups were conducted. The main research results as follows. First, middle-aged employment vulnerable groups have different career requirements depending on their characteristics. Second, the career competencies of the middle-aged employment vulnerable group were composed five factors and 21 sub-detailed competencies including career cognitive competencies, career skill competencies, career attitude competencies, career transition competencies, and career resource management competencies. Third, as a result of the priority analysis of Borich and Locus for Focus, career goal setting, career implementation competency, employment and start-up information, job search skills were the top priorities, career identity, digital literacy, job market knowledge, and infrastructure utilization were the second priority.

The Roles and Professional Competencies of Health Education Specialists in Private Health Care Setting (민간 의료기관에서 보건교육사의 활동 영역과 능력 개발)

  • Objectives: In health care setting, patient education and health promotion services are inexpensive and effective initiatives to change health behavior due to use medical service resources and personnel. This study performed to define the responsibilities and competencies of health education specialist in private health care setting. For our suggestion, we reviewed regulatory, recommendation, and programs related to health education and promotion in clinics and hospitals. Results and Conclusion: The health promoting hospital and health services in Europe and innovative hospitals of community health promotion in the U.S. were examples of approaches that supply target groups with health promotion services in health care setting. The National Commission for Health Education Credentialing has suggested the specified responsibilities and competencies of health education specialist in health care setting according to their general duty. Considering the recommendation of the NCHEC, our suggestion included: 1) the three kinds of job scope, 2) the major targets, 3) the specified responsibilities and competencies, and 4) the available health promotion programs in clinic and hospital setting. The suggestion will contribute to the development of job market for health education specialist and to the cooperation with community health resources in health promotion services and comprehensive health care.

The Effect of Job Competencies Education in First Job Satisfaction (대학생의 직무능력 향상 교육이 첫직장 만족에 미치는 영향)

  • This study analyzed the direct and indirect effects of job competency education on job goal setting, job preparation behavior and first job satisfaction from the perspective that successful employment requires improving the job ability needed for college students. Data on 5,044 students were analyzed based on the 2013GOMS of Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey(GOMS). The study findings are summarized as follows. First, job competency education not only acted positively on job goal setting but also contributed to promoting job preparation behavior. Second, job preparation behavior contributed to improving satisfaction with the first job. Third, indirect effects of job competency education and job goal setting in first job satisfaction. In conclusion, job competencies enhances the possibility that college students may obtain their wanted job by setting a clear goal for their job and having a positive effect on the required behavior. Accordingly, college student should try to reinforce their special capability to accomplish the given job as career professionals in consideration of their aptitude rather than devoting themselves to reinforcing their basic capability such as linguistic ability. For this purpose, both universities and the government should develop educational programs for college students to grasp their aptitude and cultivate their special ability to become career professionals and provide a foundation for them to become talented professionals armed with special capability by proving support for job ability improvement.

Development of a Job Competency Model of a Dental Intermediary-Manager Using the Delphi Method (델파이를 활용한 치과 중간관리자의 직무역량모델 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify job competencies of a dental intermediary-manager and to develop a job competency model. First, job competencies were extracted from literature review. Next, a focus group interview was conducted with a total of 5 people to prepare a draft of job competency model for dental intermediary-manager. Finally, a Delphi survey was conducted with 32 panels. A job competency model for dental intermediary-manager consisted of 6 groups which were dental business management, medical support, human resources management, communication, customer management, leadership, self-control and attitude. Subsequently 25 sub-competencies and 95 behavioral indicators were developed. The job competency model will be able to provide basic data for the development training programs to improve the competency of dental intermediary-managers.

The study about occupational ability of dental hygiene department students required of the dental clinics (치과병의원에서 요구하는 치위생과 졸업생들의 직업능력에 관한 연구)

  • Objectives : This study is aimed to help the dental hygiene department students to improve their adaptive ability to the field work by letting them know the performing levels required of the job world, by renovating the knowledge-centered curriculum, and by finding out the core competencies needed for successfully performing their duties and tasks in the work field. Methods : The survey tool was recomposed through the examination of the preceeding studies on basic vocational competencies and skills, and the survey has been done to 200 dentists in Seoul and Gyunggi provice. Results : 1. As for the job-getting routs, 35.1% of them finds their jobs through the job portal sites, and 21.3% through the recommendation by professors. So we can see the meaningful difference in the employment ways. 2. Dental hygiene clinics think that the purpose of their cooperation with the colleges is mainly to secure human resources by requiring the colleges to give field-centered education the colleges through. 3. The clinics for dental hygienic students' field learning have a great power for hiring the students. So it is necessary to set up a good management system of the clinics for dental hygienic students' field learning in order to reinforce the students' competitive power in getting jobs. 4. The priorities in basic working abilities needed for the task performance are in the order of vocational responsibility, self-managing & developing ability, interpersonal skill, and problem solving ability. 5. The core competencies required of those who graduate from dental hygiene school show the following scores by Likert measurement; good personality and vocational consciousness 2.16(${\pm}.677$), understanding power of major-related knowledge 2.19(${\pm}.723$), field adapting ability 2.31(${\pm}.748$), get-along-with ability 2.32(${\pm}.799$), interpersonal skill 2.42(${\pm}.768$), and self-development ability such as getting certificates 2.43(${\pm}.729$). Among the core competencies, the only meaningful factor which influences on their satisfaction measurement has been identified as the professional ability related to the major. Conclusions : The results suggest that the knowledge and skill related to the major are core competencies of able human resources and closely related with the professionality of the job, and so they are very important. However, job basic abilities are also proved to be important, which reinforce the students' activeness, self-regulation, and creativeness, and help them to pursue their lasting growth in their abilities.
