Graffiti has been recognized as an art form since the influence of free, black culture and Neo-Expressionism in the 1980s, though Graffiti remains the subject of controversy both inside and outside the school Modem Art. Jean Michel Basquiat is the most famous Graffiti artist of the '80. He was regarded as the genius and star of American art, leaving a lot of experimental and creative works during his short, 9-year, creative period. In his works, Basquiat well expressed the isolated and dark shadows in the U.S., the pursuit of self identification, the purpose of expression and the epochally social phenomenon. The purpose of this study is to investigate the application of Jean Michel Basquiat's Graffiti to fashion painting. To achieve this purpose, we present a lot of fashion painting works which apply Jean Michel Basquiat's Graffiti by focusing on autographic experience, racialism, cartoon themes, monely value, and anatomical death in the characteristics of Basquiat's works. Through this process, we can express and apply Basquiat's Graffiti to fashion painting by analogizing the themes and modeling the methods of his works, such as childish and simple features, intentionally wrong spellings and sentences, and symbols of death including skeletons, intestines, bones and teeth. In addition, Basquiat's techniques are examined in this study, including the representational handling of a brush, primitive and strong colors, and maximized shape. This study found that fashion painting can juxtaposes art and fashion by expressing Jean Michel Basquiats' Graffiti.

The hip-hop, which began with subculture of black people in Harlem, have changed variously in musical history after the times, which has become the culture phenomenon that had controlled dancing, fashion, and further consciousness of the new generation around the world in 1990s. Since Jean Patou first used Graffiti on clothing in 1920s, graffiti art has been expressed through various methods in many designers' works. The purpose of this study is to develop 'The Hip-Hop' clothing design which express major images in works of Jean-Michel Basquiat, a representative painter of Graffiti art in modern fashion. The concept is Jean Casual Look representing Young Street Culture. Breaking from existing strong legitimate hip-hop styles, clothing design expresses funny, healthy, comfortable, and active feelings. Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop program were used to design Hip-Hop clothing. With the result that the images on Basquiat's works applied to the hip-hop clothing design, it is suggested that the works of artists are worthy of practical use as factors of a high value-added design, which corresponds with collaboration appearing in modern design variously.

본 연구는 아프로퓨처리즘에 대한 1) 이론적 고찰을 통해 지금까지 논의된 정의를 정리하여 보고, 2) 탐색적 사례연구를 통해, 3) 미래 기술 발전의 지향점과 관련해서 갖는 의의를 도출하고자 했다. 이를 위해, 먼저 아프로퓨처리즘에 관한 이론적 배경 및 개념적 논의를 살펴보고, SF문학·음악·미술 분야의 작품을 분석했다. 옥타비아 버틀러(Octavia Butler)의 SF문학은 노예제도의 과거를 들추어 세상과 마주하게 함으로써 타자화된 억압으로부터 흑인 자신들을 해방해야 한다는 사상을 확인케 한다. 자넬모네(Janelle Monae)의 음악은 기술을 통해 소수자가 외부와 관계맺을 수 있는 해방된 유토피아를 제시한다. 또한, 장 미셸 바스키아(Jean-Michel Basquiat)의 미술 작품은 흑인 예술인으로서 지금까지 배제되었던 흑인의 정체성을 재해석하고 나아가 확장된 공동체적 논의를 모색한다. 이와 같은 그들의 작업에 비추어, 본 논문은 아프리카 휴머니즘의 내재된 가치들이 기하급수적으로 발전하는 기술의 발전 속 타자와 타자의 관계 맺음으로 생성되는 공진화(共進化)의 실마리를 제공할 수 있다고 제안한다.

본 연구의 목적은 대중적이며 산업화 되어있는 네오 팝 작품을 네일아트 기법에 융합한 디자인을 제시하여 창의적 디자인 발상에 기여하는데 있다. 연구방법은 네오 팝의 대표작가인 장 미쉘 바스키아, 무라카미 다카시를 선정하여 대표작가의 작품세계와 그들의 작품을 모티브로 한 사례를 전문서적과 인터넷 자료를 활용하여 분석하였다. 또한 네일아트의 개념과 표현기법들을 분석하였고 세 작가의 작품을 모티브로 네일아트 기법 중 핸드페인팅, 시스루, 엣칭, 네일 패치, 3D, 에어브러시 기법을 융합시킨 디자인으로 총 6작품을 제작하였다. 위와 같은 연구를 통해 네오 팝 작가들의 작품을 모티브로 한 창의적이고 독창적인 네일 디자인을 제시할 수 있었다. 이번 연구로 보다 개성 있고 다양한 네일 디자인의 활용이 전개되길 바라며 네일 아티스트들의 역량을 높이고 네일아트가 활성화 되는데 도움이 되길 바란다. 또한 향후 다양한 영역과의 융합으로 네일 아트 디자인 연구가 확대 발전되기를 기대한다.

In the sense that it performs a function of communication with public, fashion illustration, which visualizes fashion information in an illustrated way, shares similar characteristics with graffiti, which represents the society of its time while having a value as a modern art itself. Therefore, the study aims to seek possibility of graffiti expression of fashion illustration, and to establish theoretical research systems for reestablishment of practical development methods of the graffiti expressions. The concrete contents of this study include followings: First, it examines the methods and characteristics of the graffiti expressions by analyzing the works of graffiti artists in order to understand the concept of graffiti and to find out the theoretical approach to it. Second, it investigates the characteristics of graffiti, and proposes concepts associated with graffiti after analyzing examples of fashion illustration which graffiti expressions are reflected. Third, it draws meanings that the use of graffiti expressions has in fashion illustration. In conclusion, graffiti expressions in fashion illustration are used in brand logos and text, human body deformation and omissions, autonomous expressions of variety of materials, symbolism, amusement, and autonomy as they are characterized by strong colors to express significance.
