Fuzzy Neural Network에 응집제 투입률의 자동결정 (Automatic Determination of Coagulant Dosing Rate Using Fuzzy Neural Network)

  • Recently, as the raw water quality becomes to be polluted and the seasonal and local variation of water quality becomes to be severe, an exact control of coagulant dosing have been required in the water treat- ment plant. The amounts of coagulant is related to the raw water quality such as turbidity, alkalinity, water temperature, pH and edectrical conductivity. However the process of chemical reaction has not been clarified so far, so the dosing rate has been decided by jar-test, which is taken one or two hours. For the sake of this coagulant dosing control, fuzzy neural network to fuse fuzzy logic and neural network was proposed, and the scheme was applied to automatic determination of coagulant dosing rate. This controller can automatically identify the if-then rules and tune the membership functions by utilizing expert's cintrol data. It is shown that determination of coagulant dosing rate according to real time sensing of water quality is very effect.

Repeated-Dose Toxicity Testing of Scolopendrid Pharmacopuncture in Sprague-Dawley Rats

  • Background: The aim of this pilot study was to assess the safety and dosing of scolopendrid pharmacopuncture (SPP). Methods: A total of 40 healthy Sprague-Dawley rats (males and 20 females 20) were selected following a 7-day inspection and acclimation period. SPP was administered via intramuscular injection, over a 2-week period using 3 doses including a high-dose [0.84 mg of scolopendrid per kg of body weight (BW)], a med-dose (0.42 mg/kg BW), and a low-dose (0.21 mg/kg BW). The control group was injected with sterile water into the muscles. Unusual changes caused by administration of the test substance were observed. Weight, feed intake, organ weight, and hematological examinations were compared among the groups. Using the SPSS statistical program, Levene's test was performed to evaluate the homogeneity of variances, and a one-way ANOVA test was subsequently performed to assess the significance between each test group. Results: During the experiment no animals died. Weight change, food consumption, organ weight, hematological test, and blood biochemical tests showed no significant differences in the treatment groups compared to controls. Conclusion: No toxicological changes related to the administration of test substances were observed. Therefore, the LD50 (lethal-dose that kills 50%) of scolopendrid pharmacoupuncture in rats was greater than 0.84 mg/kg.

상수처리시스템의 응집제 주입공정 모델링에 관한 연구 (A study on coagulant dosing process in water purification system)

  • In the water purification plant, chemicals are injected for quick purification of raw water. It is clear that the amount of chemicals intrinsically depends on the water quality such as turbidity, temperature, pH and alkalinity etc. However, the process of chemical reaction to improve water quality by the chemicals is not yet fully clarified nor quantified. The feedback signal in the process of coagulant dosage, which should be measured (through the sensor of the plant) to compute the appropriate amount of chemicals, is also not available. Most traditional methods focus on judging the conditions of purifying reaction and determine the amounts of chemicals through manual operation of field experts or jar-test results. This paper presents the method of deriving the optimum dosing rate of coagulant, PAC(Polymerized Aluminium Chloride) for coagulant dosing process in water purification system. A neural network model is developed for coagulant dosing and purifying process. The optimum coagulant dosing rate can be derived the neural network model. Conventionally, four input variables (turbidity, temperature, pH, alkalinity of raw water) are known to be related to the process, while considering the relationships to the reaction of coagulation and flocculation. Also, the turbidity in flocculator is regarded as a new input variable. And the genetic algorithm is utilized to identify the neural network structure. The ability of the proposed scheme validated through the field test is proved to be of considerable practical value.

  • 초고속응집침전공정(URC)은 가중응집제(WCA)를 첨가하고 슬러지를 반송시켜 응결핵으로서의 역할을 수행시킴으로서 floc의 성장속도를 향상시키고, 입자표면의 흡착을 활성화하여 유기물, 중금속, 인 등 수중에 존재하는 오염물을 보다 효율적으로 제거하며, 기존의 응집 공정에 비하여 침전성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 현재까지 하수처리장과 하천, 호소에서 수행된 URC pilot-test와 Jar-test의 결과를 비교 검토하여 가중 응집제와 반송 슬러지에 대한 오염물 제거특성에 대한 연구가 수행되었으며, 수자원의 재이용을 위한 가능성을 평가하였다.

  • Use of aluminum salts as coagulants In water treatment may lead to increased concentrations of aluminum in finished water. Aluminum is a suspected causative agent of neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. The objective of this study was to examine variation and minimizing in residual aluminum concentration during water treatment process. The aluminum sources at Bokjeong Water Plant were present naturally aluminum in the raw water and derived due to use of PACS as a coagulant. Much of the raw water total aluminum were in particulate and suspended aluminum. In this study was compared the optimize condition to minimize the concentration of residual aluminum using Jar-test with the various coagulants such as alum, PAC, PACS. The results indicated that PACS was more effective than alum, PAC and insufficient or excessive alum, PAC, PACS addition led to increase residual aluminum. Adjustment raw water pH $6.5\~7.0$ before coagulation using PACS was capable of minimizing total and dissolved aluminum. Thus it is important that the optimal dosage of coagulant and the optimal pH adjustment before coagulation can decided to minimize the concentration of residual aluminum in treated water.

Spatial and Temporal Electrodynamics in Acuzones: Test-Induced Kinematics and Synchronous Structuring. Phenomenological Study

  • Background: So far there is no confidence in the basics of acupoint/meridian phenomena, specifically in spatial and temporal electrical manifestations in the skin. Methods: Using the skin electrodynamic introscopy, the skin areas of 32 × 64 mm2 were monitored for spectral electrical impedance landscape with spatial resolution of 1 mm, at 2 kHz and 1 MHz frequencies. The detailed baseline and 2D test-induced 2 kHz-impedance phase dynamics and the 4-parameter time plots of dozens of individual points in the St32-34 regions were examined in a healthy participant and a patient with mild gastritis. Non-thermal stimuli were used: (1) (for the sick subject), microwaves and ultraviolet radiation applied alternately from opposite directions of the meridian; and (2) (for the healthy one) microwaves to St17, and cathodic/anodic stimulation of the outermost St45, alternately. Results: In both cases, the following phenomena have been observed: emergence of in-phase and/or antiphase coherent structures, exceeding the acupoint conditional size of 1 cm; collective movement along the meridian; reversible with a reversed stimulus; counter-directional dynamics of both whole structures and adjacent points; local abnormalities in sensitivity and dynamics of the 1 MHz and 2 kHz parameters indicating existence of different waveguide paths. Conclusion: It is assumed that these findings necessitate reconsideration of some basic methodological issues regarding neurogenic/acupuncture points as spatial and temporal phenomena; this requires development of an appropriate approach for identifying the acuzones patterns. These findings may be used for developing new approaches to personalized/controlled therapy/treatment.

PAC를 이용한 하수의 고도처리공정에서의 인 제거 (Phosphorus Removal from Advanced Wastewater Treatment Process Using PAC)

  • 강화된 수질기준 이하로 인을 제거하기 위해, 혐기조, 무산소조와 Bio-clod와 다공성 폴리우레탄 여재가 충진된 접촉 산화조로 구성된 생물학적 고도처리 공정을 대상으로 PAC (Poly aluminium chloride, 10.4% as $Al_2O_3$)적용 시 인제거의 효율을 검토하였다. 접촉산화조 유출수를 대상으로 Jar-test를 실시하여 최적 PAC 주입농도를 15 mg/L로 선정 후, 2차 침전조 전단에 PAC를 주입하여 응집 침전 후 상등수를 분석하였다. PAC 주입 후 BOD와 COD의 제거율의 경우 각각 96.1%와 88.8%로, 주입 전의 95.4%와 72.4%로 효과가 크지 않았으나, TP의 제거율은 97%로 주입 전의 71.6%에 비해 18.4% 향상됨을 알 수 있었다. 특히 SP 제거율은 응집제 주입 전 59.5%에서 주입 후 98.6%로 분석되어, PAC의 적용으로 SP 제거가 가능함을 알 수 있었다. 실험기간 동안의 유출수의 TP농도는 0.13 mg/L 이하로, 추가적인 총인처리시설 설치 없이도 수질기준 준수가 가능하였다.

RFS를 이용한 도시유출수처리 (Urban Stormwater Runoff Treatment by the RFS)

  • 최근 들어 합류식 분류식 하수관의 월류수 (CSOs, SSOs)가 수질오염에 미치는 영향이 상당하다는 인식을 하게되었다. 본 논문의 목적은 CSOs, SSOs에 함유된 입자성 및 용존성 오염물질을 제거할 수 있는 RFS (Rapid Floc Settler) 장치를 개발하여 입자물질과 용존물질의 제거효율을 분석하고 최적의 설계인자와 운전인자를 도출하는데 있다. RFS장치는 물리 화학적 폐수처리장치로 그 구조가 간결하다. Polyacrylamide (PAM)을 응집제로 사용하여 Jar test 결과 PAM이 철염, 황산알루미늄에 비해 우수한 응집특성을 나타내었다. 수면적부하율의 변화를 주어 처리효율 특성을 분석하였다. 유입수는 SS를 기준으로 50~1,000mg/L로 CSOs 의 대표적인 농도를 적용하였다. 수면적부하율이 $130m^3/m^2/day$에서 SS는 90%, COD는 80% 의 처리효율을 나타내었다. 수면적부하율이 기존침전조의 10배 이상 컸다. 또한 입경분석을 실시하여 입경 분포를 분석하였다. RFS장치는 CSOs, SSOs의 처리 이외에도 건설현장 고탁도물질의 제거, 소규모유역 유출수 제어, 하수처리장에서 초과용량의 하수처리, 오염된 소하천의 정화 등 그 적용성이 클 것으로 생각된다.

Chitosan 응집제를 이용한 준설토 부유물질 처리 (Treatment of Dredging Suspended Solids Using Chitosan Coagulant)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 하천, 호수의 준설 시에 발생하는 준설토 사토장에 저류된 부유물질을 hydrocyclone을 이용하여 모래입자를 분리하고, 부유미세입자 및 오염물질을 처리하기 위해 키토산 응집제를 이용하여 고속 응집과 침전이 가능한 IDFIS 시스템을 개발함에 있다. 응집교반실험 결과 키토산 주입농도는 하천퇴적물질의 경우 40 mg/L, 터널굴착 퇴적물질의 경우 5 mg/L에서 잔류탁도는 5 NTU 이하를 나타내었다. 키토산응집제는 응집, 응결조건에 pH 영향이 거의 없으므로 처리장치 운전의 용이성에 기여할 것으로 판단된다. IDFIS장치를 이용하여 황토입자, 하천퇴적물질, 하천부유사 퇴적물질, 터널굴착 퇴적물을 대상으로 제거특성을 분석한 결과 전반적인 평균 처리효율은 탁도 98%, SS 99%, COD 85%, TP 95%를 나타내었다. 키토산응집제는 다양한 탁도 범위에서도 입자물질의 제거에 매우 효과적인 것으로 분석되었다. IDFIS장치는 키토산응집제로 빠르게 형성된 플럭을 높은 수면적부하율로 처리 가능하여 집적화된 처리장치로서 활용도가 높을 것으로 판단된다.

The Evaluation of the Single-Dose Toxicity and Safety of 4-Carvomenthenol in ICR Mice

  • Background: 4-carvomenthenol[4-methyl-1-(1-methylethyl)-3-cyclohexen-1-ol] is a main component of Origanum vulgare L., Zanthoxylum piperitum (L.) DC., and other plants. It has been reported to exhibit anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and anti-tumor effects. Furthermore, it is necessary to conduct a toxicity test on 4-carvomenthenol to ensure its safety. Methods: This study included 5-week-old Institute of Cancer Research mice that were categorized into 3 treatment groups (12, 25, and 50 mg/kg 4-carvomenthenol dose levels) and a control group (10% dimethyl sulfoxide, 40% polyethylene glycol 300, 5% Tween 80, and 45% normal saline injection of the final volume), with 5 male mice and 5 female mice per group. All groups were observed for clinical symptoms and body weight in a period of 14 days and were subjected to gross necropsy after euthanasia. Results: No deaths were recorded. No test substance-related clinical signs in the female mice of the 12 mg/kg dose group were observed. Abnormal gait was observed in 1 male from day 1 to day 3 in the 12 mg/kg dose group; 1-3 males from day 1 to day 7 and 1-5 females from day 1 to day 15 in the 25 mg/kg dose group; and 2-5 males and 2-5 females from day 1 to day 15 in the 50 mg/kg dose group. No test substance-related effect on the body weight and necropsy findings was observed. Conclusion: The results of this study suggested that the lethal dose of 4-carvomenthenol could be greater than 50 mg/kg. However, further research is needed, especially repeated-dose toxicity studies, to confirm the efficacy and safety of 4-carvomenthenol.
