Risk and exposure assessment for subsurface environment is very important for both aspects of health and environmental protection as well as making decision of remedial goal for engineering activities. Exposure due to hazardous chemicals in the subsurface environment is essential to assess risk lev121 to individual person, especially from soil and groundwater environmental media. In this paper, the status of soil and groundwater contamination is presented to discuss on the problem for environmental risk assessment. The methodologies of fate and exposure models are also discussed by conducting the case studies of exposure assessment for heavy metals, organic compounds, and dioxin compounds. In addition, the structure of exposure models and available data for model calculation are examined to make clear more realistic exposure scenarios and the application to the practical environmental issues. Three kinds of advanced remediation techniques for soil and groundwater contamination are described in this paper, The most practical method for VOCs is the bio-remediation technique in which biological process due to consortium of microorganisms can be applied. For more effective remediation of soil contaminated by heavy metals we have adopted the soil flushing technique and clean-up system using electro-kinetic method. We have also developed the advanced techniques of geo-melting method for soil contaminated by DXNs and PCB compounds. These techniques are planed to introduce and to apply for a lot of contaminated sites in Japan.
The result of comparison and analysis study of institutionalization and exchange status of environmental education in South Korea, the People's Republic of China, and Japan, Northeast Asian countries that are closely related to Korea, is summarized as the following: First, this study shows that the process of environmental education institutionalization requires an instigation. For example, a specific environmental policy is established after raising awareness to modify environmental policies, as the result of aggravation of damage due to pollution. Therefor, it is the necessary process for the establishment of an environmental policy in order to proceed environmental education institutionalization. Second, even though institutionalization processes of environmental education for the three countries are considered to be very similar, differences are apparent if one carefully examines the content of environmental education for each country. In particular, South Korea, the People's Republic of China, and Japan all agree that environmental education is necessary, but differ in their ideas of main body for advocating institutionalization, as well as maintenance level of environmental education. Third, the order of establishment of environmental education institutionalization is Japan, South Korea and China and there exists about a 10 years time gap between each country. Fourth, the environmental education exchange was formed between South Korea and the People's Republic of China and between South Korea and Japan, first. Then it was enlarged to TEMM(Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting) and TEEN(Tripartite Environmental Education Network) among three countries.

Earth observation satellites data apply to various fields and global satellite imagery market continues to expand with increasing the scale according to the developed satellites. Sudden natural disasters frequently have occurred in Japan. ALOS satellite data support to repair the damaged area and mitigate the disasters in Japan as well as all around the world. In this paper, the status of remote sensing and data policy in Japan are described. In addition, satellite-based remote sensing technology effectively contribute to the public sector and related support to establish the infra system of satellite application promotion has been investigated.
Spurred by the ongoing globalization, an increase in mobility has diversified migrant categories and strengthened intercultural rapport. Alongside the "traditional" migrants, "White" (Caucasian) individuals are coming into greater focus of migration studies as "lifestyle migrants". Although White migrations are not a new phenomenon, the deep-seated idea of White supremacy continues to play an important role in contemporary intercultural communication, awarding Whites across communities a "cosmopolitan" status of highly educated cultural elites. As such, the focus of this research is on highly skilled White European migrants, on their subjective experiences of integration in Japan, and whether they perceive Whiteness as an obstacle or an advantage in this process, if integration is desired at all. To discern the connection between race and integration, this research investigates the non-White majority society of Japan as it has established racial hierarchies according to the Western models, consequently influencing the status of its contemporary White immigrants. Privileged, yet singled out as racial and cultural role models, White Europeans' integration seemingly becomes nearly impossible. The data obtained in fifteen semi-structured interviews confirms that Whiteness grants advantages when entering the Japanese job market, but remains an obstacle in everyday community integration. European professionals do not feel accepted and abandon efforts to integrate, if such were made, retreating into "cosmopolitan islets" wherein they renegotiate their White European identities.

The objectives of this study were 1) to review the current status of cooperative extension services in Japan, and 2) to draw implications for improving Korean agricultural extension system. Faced with various problems since its localization of extension services in 1997, Korean agricultural extension needs to be improved and strengthened in order to continually achieve the national goals of food production, balanced national development and preservation of environment, at the same time to meet increasing needs of farmers. The results of the study revealed the major characteristics of agricultural extension services in Japan as follows; 1) Each agricultural extension centers were administratively and technically coordinated by the prefectural (provincial) government, 2) There were 11 public corporations with agricultural extension functions under the MAFF(Ministry of Agricultural Forestry and Fisheries) financed by government subsidies 3) Agricultural experiment stations at provincial level were responsible for developing agricultural innovations for farmers' adoption, 4) The functions and operation of the agricultural extension centers were independent from the local agricultural administration. Some of the implications drawn from the study were as follows; 1) In order to accomplish major objectives of agricultural extension services in Korea legal status of agricultural extension centers should be changed from city/county to provincial government, 2) It would be desirable to establish public corporations concerned with agricultural extension under the Rural Development Administration, 3) Provincial Rural Development Administration should be reinforced in terms of applied farming research and diffusion of new technology, 4) Agricultural extension centers should be independent from administrative function and be separated from administration at the city/county level.
Present status of picture quality and the future target status for FPD TV's are shown based on the evaluated result of FPD TVs and CRT TVs. FPD TV will be required to be design under ergonomics concept and to be revised some of the definition for to enrage the market.
As an enhancement to increase mapping speed of the current ALMA TP array, development of a focal plane array system working at ultra wide frequency range of 275-500 GHz with GPU-based software spectrometers has been carried out since 2015. Major progresses on such component development as wideband DSB mixers, a profiled corrugated horn, receiver optics, LO system and GPU-based spectrometer are reviewed with brief introduction to implication of ALMA 2030 for technical implementation.
We start to develop a predictable technology for thermal-hydraulic performance of the RMWR core using an advanced numerical simulation technology. As a part of this technology development, we are developing the advanced interface tracking method to improve the conservation of volume of fluid. The present paper describes a part of the development of the twophase flow simulation code TPFIT with the advanced interface tracking method. The numerical results applied to large-scale water-vapor two-phase flow in tight lattice rod bundles are shown and compared with experimental results. In the results of numerical simulation, a tendency of the predicted void fraction distribution in horizontal plane agreed with the measured values obtained by the advanced neutron radiography technique including the bridge formation of the liquid at the position of adjacent fuel rods where an interval is the narrowest.
Railway in Japan has been changed every apr. 20 years as follows, since the war ended in 1945. Shinkansen which was the first high speed train in the world began to revenue service in 1964, and a national railway authority was privatized segmentally in 1987, and after 20 years later from then, the ticketing service using IC card was accomplished. In this research, we review these changes in Japan in the administrative aspects on railway technology, and R & D aspects of the Railway Technical Research Institute, JR East and JR West which are railway corporations. Also we introduce the present status and future of railway technologies in Japan which railway experts diagnosed. In the twenty-first century, the needs of the times for railway have been enormously changed due to a low birth-rate, an aging society, environmental pollution and energy problems and etc. Because we have very similar problems to them like Japan, we could get lessons from Japanese cases in setting the direction for the development of railway technologies.
