  • In the replacement of bearing system of bridges, the jacking work to secure work spaces may cause damage of the superstructure, hence the behavior of superstructure by the jacking force must be considered. Especially, in prestressed concrete I-type girder bridges, considering the stress concentration at the girder and the load redistribution of superstructure, the allowable jacking force and jacking sequence have to be determined. In this study, an analytical method is proposed to calculate the jacking force and overall jacking sequence for the replacement of bearing system without any damage to the superstructure. The stress concentration at the girder and load redistribution of the deck due to jacking force are considered to compute the allowable jacking force for each girder and overall jacking sequence for girders in the deck. Using the solution algorithm developed in this study, the optimum jacking sequence and required jacking force for the prestressed concrete I-type gilder bridge having the standard sections are calculated.

  • To investigate the stabilizing effect of anchors against sliding, a series of the model test was carried out. An apparatus was developed to perform the model test of the slope reinforced by anchors. An instrumentation system has been applied on the anchors to measure the axial force during slope failure. The maximum stabilizing effect is revealed about 0.5% of the area ratio. The initial loss of anchor force is represented about 24% of initial jacking force. This result is equaled to the proposed range(10%~25%) of the field test result(Yun, 1997). The effective jacking force corresponds to 70% of the initial jacking force. Therefore, the initial jacking force should be determined more than 30% of the design jacking force. As the initial jacking force becomes increase, the reinforced slope is transferred to brittle failure behavior due to increasing the density of slope soils.

  • Jacking force loss management inside the PSC Box girder of a common high-speed railway is a very important feature in girder performance, and requires detailed management during the maintenance of the girder. This study aimed to analyze the timing of re-tension prediction of PSC Box girder based on the reduction level of the packing force inside the girder and the results of the tension loss measured without the train load test. As a result of predicting the timing of re-tension according to the level of tension reduction of the PSC Box Girder, the Jacking Force Loss curve was gently analyzed before the structure reached 17 years after confirmed completion, and 17 years later, it was found that the jacking force loss curve progressed rapidly. The results confirmed that the tension of the structure decreases with the service life increase, but considerably decreases as the structure ages. Therefore, more data and research on tension loss of facilities over 20 years are much required.

  • The jacking of cantilever before key segment closure has been introduced to offset the long term forces caused by creep and shrinkage. In this paper, the behavior of structural system with the jacking force in approach bridge of Incheon Bridge was reviewed. The introduction of jacking force effectively offset the long term horizontal forces and allows economic substructure member design.

  • Pipe jacking is a name for a method to excavate a tunnel by pushing pipe into the ground from an especial pit. Size of tunnels in this method is different from under 900mm (microtunneling) to more than 3,000mm. Method of excavation is also different from hand digging to use of any kind of tunnel boring machines such as slurry and earth pressure balance (EPB) machines. Slurry pipe jacking was firmly established as a special method for the nondisruptive construction of the underground tunnels in urban area. During the pipe jacking and microtunneling process, the jacking load is an important parameter, controlling the pipe wall thickness, need to and location of intermediate jacking station, selection of jacking frame and lubrication requirements. The main component of the jacking load is due to frictional resistance. In this paper the skin friction between pipe surface and surrounding condition also lubricant quality based on a few fundamental tests, were considered. During this study unconfined compressive strength test, dynamic friction measurement test and direct shear box test were raised for one of the largest diameter slurry pipe jacking project in Fujisawa city in Japan. It could be concluded that in slurry pipe jacking, prediction of frictional forces are mainly dependent on successful lubrication, its quality and lubricant strength parameters. Conclusions from this study can be used for the same experiences.

  • In prestressed concrete structures, determining serviceability and safety it is important to exactly calculate effective prestress force acting on structures. for the determination of effective prestress force, friction loss of the prestressing tendon should be decided exactly, but it is very difficult to measure the exact prestress force on the site and there is no actual field data. Therefore the friction loss coefficient recommended by the specification is not verified. in this paper, the friction loss standard PSC-Beam will be investigated, and is will be found what kind of relationship between the specification and the site. The results from this study can be summarized as follows. For jacking at both ends, actual intial prestress force in the center section of PCS-Beam was about 1.61% larger than theoretical initial prestress force and for hacking at one end, actual initial prestress force was approximate 4.9% lower than theoretical initial prestress force. Thus, for the exact calculation of friction loss, friction coefficient should be modified according to jacking methods.

  • In the prestressed concrete structures, the effective prestressing force of tendon is basically most important item for structural safety and serviceability. The frictional loss is one of the major items for determinating the effective prestressing force and depend on the construction accuracy of the structures. In this thesis, it will be analyzed and found through measured hydraulic jack pressure, tendon elongation and prestressing control system that the tendancy of apparent curvature friction coefficient, the ratio of jacking force and required prestressing force, the ratio of initial jacking force and required prestressing force and compatibility of specified friction loss coefficient. The specified control limit for curvature friction coefficient of prestressing control system is about 0.25 and wobble friction coefficient 0.005. Thus, the control limit should be modified according to changed vale of friction coefficient.

  • Precast concrete can be used to reduce construction period and enhance construct ability. However structural problems could be occurred due to the wrong application of boundary condition and misunderstanding of structural behavior in the process of segmentation of original structure system. I experienced a serious deflections and cracks due to the increase of bending moment and creep after the construction of precast concrete slab, and we learned that this is from the misunderstanding of support conditions and structure behaviors of precast slab panel. Two support columns under the precast slab are inserted to reduce the bending moment, and the camber according to jacking force should be estimated for the structural safety during the reinforcing work. A proper support condition and the flexural stiffness of precast concrete slab were applied to check the deflection and crack for existing structure by inverse analysis, and we can estimate the camber according to jacking force of the precast concrete slab, and suggest a method to make safe structure.

  • Unbonded precast concrete piers have better seismic performances than conventional reinforced concrete piers. In this research, seismic performances of unbonded precast prestressed concrete piers are analyzed using OpenSEES. Main parameters of analysis are concrete strength, jacking force ratio, ratio of tendon, and size of precast segment. In results, as the ratio of tendon and jacking force ratio increase, the flexural strength increases at softening state and ultimate state. Concrete strength and size of precast segment are negligible. But initial jacking force ratio leads to early yielding of prestressing tendon. Since compressive strain in core concrete is much less than ultimate strain, it can be expected that the amount of transverse steel reinforcement is to be reduced in comparison with conventional reinforced concrete column.

  • In this paper, the dynamic behavior of pretensioned concrete structures was investigated experimentally during detensioning for two different releasing methods: flame-cutting and hydraulic-jacking. According to the experimental results of strain changes, although detensioning time of hydraulic-jacking is shorter than that of fame-cutting, the prestressing force loss of fame-cutting is larger than that of hydraulic-jacking.
