This paper presents the spray characteristics of the gun type burner nozzle with bio-diesel blending rate. The burner nozzle used in this experiment is a pressure swirl type nozzle. For the spray characteristics, visualization of spray was conducted to obtain the spray angle, and laser diffraction spectroscope (LDS) was used for the measurement of the droplet diameters. The results showed that the $D_{max}$, SMD and spray angle were decreased with increasing the bio-diesel blending rate and BD30 (30% bio-diesel blending rate) could be found to be the maximum blending rate for using without any modification of the gun type burner of the homesize kerosene fuel boiler.
Nozzle of the double-plated grid plays the role of the spring to support a fuel rod as well as to provide the coolant path in grid. The nozzle was known to be necessary to reduce the spring stiffness for supporting performance. In this study the contact analysis between the fuel rod and the nozzle type spacer grid was performed by using ABAQUS standard to propose the preferable shape in tenn of spring performance. Two small cuts at the upper and lower part of the nozzle appeared to have a minor effect in decreasing the nozzle stiffness. A long slot at the center of the nozzle was turned out not only to decrease the spring constant as desired but also to increase the elastic displacement.
This study describes the external spray characteristics of deflector nozzle such as the breakup procedures of liquid sheet, spray angle, discharge coefficient and bubble behaviors of spray and SMD at deflector nozzle. In order to visualize the spray behaviors shadow graphy technique were used. According to the increase of injection pressure, development of the spray passes through the dribbling, distoted jet, closed bubble due to the contraction by surface tension forces, the bubble opens into hollow tulip shape, and the curved surface straightened to form a conical sheet like as the simplex swirl atomizer. Spray cone angle was nearly 90 deg. Variations of SMD were examined in order to describe the dependency of SMD on the injection pressure and orifice diameter. The shape of deflector and oriffice diameter had an effect on the discharge coefficient.
The removal of the dusts in the subway stations, tunnels, factories and buildings becomes issue for comfortable indoor and outdoor conditions. There has been used an automatic self-cleaning filter system to collect the dusts. In general, the collected particles are removed by water spray nozzles. The new design for improving the cleaning efficiency of collected dusts and reducing the supplied water is the concept of the plane array of demister filters and the twin-fluid nozzle for mixing compressed air and water in the automatic self-cleaning filter system. Results show that the cleaning efficiency of twin-nozzle filter systems is 99.1%, compared to 47% in the conventional filter system. Therefore the automatic self-cleaning filter system using twin-fluid nozzle filter systems reduces water supplied in the filter system, and increases cleaning efficiency and drying efficiency.
Plume flow-fields of aircraft nozzles are numerically investigated at various flight conditions for infrared signature analysis. A mission profile of subsonic unmanned combat aerial vehicle is considered for the requirement of each mission, associated engine and nozzles are selected through a performance analysis. Numerical results of nozzle plume flow-fields using a CFD code are analyzed in terms of thrust, maximum temperature. It is shown that maximum temperature increase for lower altitude and higher Mach number.
This study describes the external spray characteristics of deflector nozzle such as the breakup procedures of liquid sheet, spray angle, breakup length and bubble behaviors of spray at deflector nozzle. In order to visualize the spray behaviors shadow graphy technique were used. According to the increase injection pressure, deveopment of the spray passes through the dribbling, distoted jet, closed bubble due to the contraction by form a conical sheet like as the simplex swirl atomizer. As trying the analysis of the ratio of bubble length and width it was found that the ratios is comparable. Spray cone angle was nearly $90^{\circ}$.
The near field structure of round turbulent jets with initially asymmetric velocity distribution is investigated experimentally. Experiments were carried out using a constant temperature hot-wire anemometry system to measure streamwise velocity in the jets. The measurements were undertaken across the jet at various streamwise stations in a range starting from the jet exit plane and up to a downstream location of twelve diameters. The experimental results include the distribution of mean and instantaneous velocities, vorticity field, turbulence intensity, and the Reynolds shear stress. The asymmetry of the jet exit plane was obtained by using circular cross-section pipes with a bend at the upstream of the exit. Three pipes were used for this study: A straight pipe, 90 and 160 degree-bended pipes. Therefore, at the upstream of the pipe exit, the secondary flow through the bend and the mean streamwise velocity distribution could be controlled by changing the curvature of pipes.
Owing to the rapid progress in manufacturing technology of microscale devices, there are active research works in developing microscale propulsion systems. In this study, gas flows in nozzles with size of milli and sub-millimeter are investigated by using a CFD code based on the Navier-Stokes equations. The prediction results were compared with theoretical results of quasi-one-dimensional nozzle flow and experiment data. In general, theoretical values agree very well with the CFD results. However, theoretical values begin to deviate from the CFD and experimental data for relatively small Reynolds numbers and the nozzle shape with rectangular cross section. The primary reason for this discrepancy is due to the existence of the thick boundary layer at the wall in low Reynolds flows.
In this study, the thickness of the liquid sheet formed by a splash plate nozzle at low jet velocities was measured by the direct contact method. The spatial distribution characteristics of the sheet thickness in the radial and circumferential directions, and the effects of jet velocity and liquid viscosity were analyzed. The wavy surface was observed for low viscosity water, but not for high viscosity glycerol solutions. The sheet thickness decreased as the circumferential angle or the distance from the impinging point increased. The sheet thickness increased as the liquid viscosity increased. Comparison with the theoretical predictions for two impinging jets showed some differences from the measurement results.
