  • The kinematic analysis of Stewart platform manipulator(SPM) is carried out in order to reduce the calculation time for its forward kinematic solution when the iterative numerical method is employed. The kinematic equations for three substructures of the 6-3 SPM are newly derived by introducing Denavit-Hartenberg link parameters and using kinematic constraints associated with the SPM and substructure kinematics. It is shown that the forward kinematics can be easily solved from three nonlinear equations with three unknown variables only, leading to a great reduction in calculation time.

  • This paper presents an efficient improvement of the iterative eigenvalue calculation method of the AESOPS algorithm. The intuitively and heuristically approximated iterative eigenvalue calculation method of the AESOPS algorithm is transformed to the Second Order Newton Raphson Method which is generally used in numerical analysis. The equations of second order partial differentiation of external torque, terminal and internal voltages are derived from the original AESOPS algorithm. Therefore only a few calculation steps are added to transform the intuitively and heuristically approximated AESOPS algorithm to the Second Order Newton Raphson Method, while the merits of original algorithm are still preserved.

  • This paper presents and efficient improvement of the iterative eigenvalue calculation method and the selection of initial values in AESOPS algorithm. To determine the initial eigenvalues of the system, system state matrix is constructed with the two-axis generator model. From the submatrices including synchronous and damping coefficients, the initial eigenvalues are calculated by the QR method. Participation factors are also calculated from the above submatrices in order to determine the generators which have a important effect to the specific oscillation mode. Also, the heuristically approximated eigenvalue calculation method in the AESOPS algorithm is transformed to the Newton Raphson Method which is largely used in the nonlinear numerical analysis. The new methods are developed from the AESOPS algorithm and thus only a few calculation steps are added to practice the proposed algorithm.

  • A general method of solving inverse kinematics of three-joint manipulator composed of revolute joints or prismatic joints or combinations of those joints is presented in this study. In completing real-time control, it is very important to obtain the closed form solutions of inverse kinematics rather than iterative numerical solutions, because iterative numerical solutions are generally much slower than the corresponding closed form solutions. If it is possible to obtain the inverse kinematic solutions for general cases of considering twist anlges and offsets, the manipulator work space can be designed and enlarged more effciently for specific task. Moreover, in idustrial manipulators, the effect of main three joints is larger than that of the other three joints related to orientation in the view of work space. Therfore the solutions of manin three-joint are considered. Even The inverse kinematic equations are complicatedly coupled, the systematical solving process by using symbolic calculation is presented.

  • A new Direct Nonlinear Strut-Tie Model design method performing iterative calculations using secant stiffness was developed. Since basically the proposed design method uses elastic analysis, it has the advantages of convenience and stability in numerical analysis. At the same time, the proposed design method can accurately estimate the strength and ductility demands on the members because it analyzes the inelastic behavior of structure using iterative calculation. In the present study, the procedure of the proposed design method was established, and a computer program incorporating the proposed method was developed. The proposed design method, as an integrated method of analysis and design, can address the earthquake design strategy devised by the engineer, such as ductility limit on each member. Through iterative calculations on the structure preliminary designed with member sizes, the strength and ductility demands of each member can be estimated so that they satisfy the given design strategy, and as the result economical and safe design is achieved.

  • Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method has a good adaptability for the simulation of free surface flow problems. There are two forms of SPH. One is weak compressible SPH and the other one is incompressible SPH (ISPH). Compared with the former one, ISPH method performs better in many cases. ISPH based on Rankine source solution can perform better than traditional ISPH, as it can use larger stepping length by avoiding the second order derivative in pressure Poisson equation. However, ISPH_R method needs to solve the sparse linear matrix for pressure Poisson equation, which is one of the most expensive parts during one time stepping calculation. Iterative methods are normally used for solving Poisson equation with large particle numbers. However, there are many iterative methods available and the question for using which one is still open. In this paper, three iterative methods, CGS, Bi-CGstab and GMRES are compared, which are suitable and typical for large unsymmetrical sparse matrix solutions. According to the numerical tests on different cases, still water test, dam breaking, violent tank sloshing, solitary wave slamming, the GMRES method is more efficient than CGS and Bi-CGstab for ISPH method.

  • Free vibration analysis for continuous bridge under any number of vehicles is conducted in this paper. Calculation strategy for natural frequency and mode shape is proposed based on Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and numerical assembly method. Firstly, a half-car planar model is adopted; equations of motion and displacement functions for bridge and vehicle are established, respectively. Secondly, the undermined coefficient matrices for wheels, vehicles, intermediate support, left-end support and right-end support are derived. Then, the numerical assembly technique for conventional finite element method is adopted to construct the overall matrix of coefficients for whole system. Finally, natural frequencies and corresponding mode shapes are determined based on iterative method and overall matrix solution. Numerical simulation is presented to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. The results reveal that the solutions of present method are exact ones. Natural frequencies and associate modal shapes of continuous bridge under different conditions of vehicles are investigated. The influences of vehicle parameters on natural frequencies are also demonstrated.

  • The adhesively bonded tubular single lap joint shows large nonlinear behavior in the loaddisplacement relation, because structural adhesives for the joint are usually rubber toughened, which endows adhesives with nonlinear shear properties. since the majority of load transfer of the adhesively bonded tubular single lap joint is accomplished by the nonlinear behavior of the adhesive, its torque transmission capability should be calculated incorporating nonlinear shear properties. However, both the analytic and numerical analyses become complicated if the nonlinear shear properties of the adhesive are included during the calculation of torque transmission capabilities. In this paper, in order to obtain the torque transmission capabilities easily, an iterative solution which includes the nonlinear shear properties of the adhesive was derived using the analytic solution with the linear shear properties of the adhesive. Since the iterative solution can be obtained very fast due to its simplicity, it has been found that it can be used in the design of the adhesively bonded tubular single lap joint.
