In order to realize a high performance(low loss, high isolation) microwave power divider/combiner, we have designed the power combiner/divider precisely in accordance with the different hight of central part. In the case of the high central part of the hight of $h_r$=10.2, a compensating part of the conical line is inserted in the conical conversion transmission line, and in the case of low central part of the hight of $h_r$=5.0, the conical conversion transmission line is remodeled into the 2-stage bend structure. In both case, the reflection characteristics are improved to 30dB over the operating frequency range of 5GHz bandwidth. A resistance is inserted between the peripheral ports so as to try to improve the isolation characteristics of the device. For the 16-divider/combiner, the isolation characteristics are improved to 10dB over the operating frequency range of 5GHz bandwidth.
The seismic isolation technology has appeared to be increasingly necessary for highway bridges, LNG tank, nuclear power plant, and building structures in view of earthquake vibrations. Also high-technology industries require effective seismic protection. The Seismic Isolation Bearing - High Damping Rubber Bearing - system has been counted as the most effective way fur seismic isolation, which is now under development and widely used in industries. Here, the commercial FEM software for nonlinear analysis, MARC, has provided force-displacement curves on the rubber system. The analyses have been carried out about fourteen cases; 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, 125% and 150% horizontal displacements with a different frequency - 0.01Hz and 0.50Hz - and 100% horizontal displacement with four different frequency - 0.01Hz, 0.16667Hz, 0.3333Hz and 0.50Hz. The unknown constants of the strain energy function of Ogden model have been obtained by a tension test and planar shear test.
The modeling of an active vibration isolation system is accomplished by using the equivalent spring constant, mass and rotational Inertia of each component. The detailed model of the actuation module is successful for describing its frequency-domain performance but also too complicated to implement it to actual system for control so that the order of the model is reduced up to the degree that preserves its characteristic in the low frequency range. The reduced model is suitable for identifying the unknown system parameters such as damping constants of components. The overall isolation system is described by using the reduced model of the actuation module. The accurate model ing and system parameter identification that is essential for the control of the active vibration isolation system is attained successfully.
This study evaluates the performance of a coil spring-viscous damper system for the vibration and seismic isolation of an Emergency Diesel Generator (EDG) by measuring its operational vibration and seismic responses. The vibration performance of a coil spring-viscous damper system was evaluated by the vibration measurements for an identical EDG set with different base systems - one with an anchor bolt system and the other with a coil spring-viscous damper system. The seismic performance of the coil spring-viscous damper system was evaluated by seismic tests with a scaled model of a base-isolated EDG on a shaking table. The effects of EDG base isolation on the fragility curve and core damage frequency in a nuclear power plant were also investigated through a case study.
A non-linear vibration isolation system composed of a non-linear spring and a linear damper was presented in a previous study. The advantage of the proposed isolator is the simple structure of the system. When the base of the isolator is harmonically excited, the response component of the mass at the excitation frequency was approximated using three different methods: linear approximation, harmonic balance, and higher-order frequency response functions (FRFs). The method using higher-order FRFs produces significantly more accurate results compared with the other methods. The error between the exact and approximate responses does not increase monotonously with the excitation amplitude and is less than 2%.
A study on the seismic responses for a base isolated structure subjected to earthquakes with different frequency characteristics is peformed with time history analyses. Two types of seismic inputs are considered in these analyses, one is short period earthquakes such as El Centro(1940, NS), the other is long period ones such as Mexico(1985). The seismic responses of the base isolated structure depend on seismic input types and isolation frequencies. In this study the 0.5 Hz of isolation frequency for short period earthquakes remarkably reduces the acceleration responses, increases the relative displacements of isolator that are still within the proposed limits of isolator. However higher isolation frequency for long period earthquakes is more adequate to reduce the seismic responses of the base isolated structures; in the study 0.75 Hz is effective to Mexico 1985 earthquake.

This paper demonstrates a real-time hybrid substructuring (RTHS) shake table test to evaluate the seismic performance of a base isolated building. Since RTHS involves a feedback loop in the test implementation, the frequency dependent magnitude and inherent time delay of the actuator dynamics can introduce inaccuracy and instability. The paper presents a robust stability and performance analysis method for the RTHS test. The robust stability method involves casting the actuator dynamics as a multiplicative uncertainty and applying the small gain theorem to derive the sufficient conditions for robust stability and performance. The attractive feature of this robust stability and performance analysis method is that it accommodates linearized modeled or measured frequency response functions for both the physical substructure and actuator dynamics. Significant experimental research has been conducted on base isolators and dampers toward developing high fidelity numerical models. Shake table testing, where the building superstructure is tested while the isolation layer is numerically modeled, can allow for a range of isolation strategies to be examined for a single shake table experiment. Further, recent concerns in base isolation for long period, long duration earthquakes necessitate adding damping at the isolation layer, which can allow higher frequency energy to be transmitted into the superstructure and can result in damage to structural and nonstructural components that can be difficult to numerically model and accurately predict. As such, physical testing of the superstructure while numerically modeling the isolation layer may be desired. The RTHS approach has been previously proposed for base isolated buildings, however, to date it has not been conducted on a base isolated structure isolated at the ground level and where the isolation layer itself is numerically simulated. This configuration provides multiple challenges in the RTHS stability associated with higher physical substructure frequencies and a low numerical to physical mass ratio. This paper demonstrates a base isolated RTHS test and the robust stability and performance analysis necessary to ensure the stability and accuracy. The tests consist of a scaled idealized 4-story superstructure building model placed directly onto a shake table and the isolation layer simulated in MATLAB/Simulink using a dSpace real-time controller.
The principal idea of vibration isolation is to filter out the response of the system over the corner frequency. The isolation objectives are to transmit the attitude control torque within the bandwidth of the attitude control system and to filter all the high frequency components coming from vibration equipment above the bandwidth. However, when a reaction wheels or control momentum gyros control spacecraft attitude, vibration inevitably occurs and degrades the performance of sensitive devices. Therefore, vibration should be controlled or isolated for missions such as Earth observing, broadcasting and telecommunication between antenna and ground stations. For space applications, technicians designing controller have to consider a periodic vibration and disturbance to ensure system performance and robustness completing various missions. In general, past research isolating vibration commonly used 6 degree order freedom isolators such as Stewart and Mallock platforms. In this study, the vibration isolation device has 3 degree order freedom, one translational and two rotational motions. The origin of the coordinate is located at the center-of-gravity of the upper plane. In this paper, adaptive notch filter finds the disturbance frequency and the reference signal in filtered-x least mean square is generated by the notch frequency. The design parameters of the notch filter are updated continuously using recursive least square algorithm. Therefore, the adaptive filtered-x least mean square algorithm is applied to the vibration suppressing experiment without reference sensor. This paper shows the experimental results of an active vibration control using an adaptive filtered-x least mean squares algorithm.

A mixer is a key component in the wireless communication systems. In this paper, we design a mixer which is used in a frequency modulated continuous wave(FMCW) radar system. The frequency sweep range of the radar is from 10 GHz to 11 GHz. The transmitted and received signals of the FMCW radar are applied to LO and RF ports of the mixer, respectively, but the frequency difference between the two signals, which is called "a beat frequency" is under a few KHz and depending on the distance to target. Thus the isolation between the LO and RF ports is very important factor to design this mixer. In this paper we propose a single balanced resistive mixer using GaAs MESFET for this application. We first design a single-ended type resistive mixer using a simulation tool, then design a balanced type to increase the LO-to-RF isolation of the mixer. We fabricated the mixer on the substrate of dielectric constant 10 and thickness 0.635 mm. The measured results show that the isolation and conversion loss of the mixer over the frequency band is 20dB and 10.5dB, respectively. The LO input power for operating the proposed mixer is +3dBm, which is lower than a general conventional mixer's LO power. The 1 dB compression point is 6dBm.
