A Study on the Health Condition, eating Behavior and Nutritional Status of Girl's High School Students in Ulsan (울산시 여고생의 건강상태, 식행동 및 영양섭취상태에 관한 연구)

  • This research was carried out to investigate the health condition, eating behavior and nutritional status of female high school students. The survey was conducted from July 5 to July 18, 1996 with 524 first grade students(15 to 17 years old) of H girl's high school using the questionnaire method. The levels of depression and anxiety were measured by CED-S and Spielburger's STAI-S, respectively. In addition, nutrient intakes were estimated by Convenience Method. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The mean depression and anxiety scores of the subjects were 22.23 and 26.00, respectively. The proportion of subjects with normal weight(BM) was 72.1%. The perceived health condition of subjects was moderate and 15.1% of subjects were anemic. The subjectiv health symptoms were feeling drowsy, tired eyesight, getting tired easily, catching cold frequently and frequent headache. 2. The irregularity of breakfast was high in the subjects. The problems of the eating behavior were irregular meals, unbalanced diets, excessive meals, skipping meals and food prejudice. Forty-nine percent of subjects had good eating behaviors. 3. The mean energy intake of subjects was 1717Kcal. The proportion of energy derived from carbohydrates, proteins and fats were 62.70%, 13.89% and 23.42%, respectively. The subjects consumed 59.59g of protein, 13.07mg iron, 637.49mg calcium, 553.64 R.E. vitamin A, 0.94mg vitamin B1, 1.08mg vitamin B2, 15.15mg niacin and 49.59mg vitamin C, respectively. Except niacin, other nutrient intakes were less than the Korean recommended dietary allowances(RDA), especially, iron. 4. Mother's occupation, subject's pocket money and perceived health condition were negatively correlated with eating behavior, And the depression and anxiety of subjects showed wrong eating behaviors. The effects of socioeconomic variables, depression, anxiety and perceived health condition on the nutrient intake were different depending on the kind of nutrient. The nutrient intakes differed significantly among the group of different eating behavior. The eating behavior was significantly correlated with the nutrient intake.

  • Stickler syndrome is a very rare connective tissue disorder. The authors of the present study describe an 11-month-old girl with high myopia, retinal abnormalities, flat nose, cleft palate, retrognathia, micrognathia, short stature and arthrogryposis. Radiological evaluation also showed irregularity of the epiphysis of the femur and tibia and spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia. Genetic analysis using a peripheral blood sample revealed a novel variant c.787G>A (p.Gly246Asp) mutation of the COL2A1 gene. This is the first Korean case with Stickler syndrome confirmed by genetic testing.

Effect of Application of Tetracycline - HCl on Implant Surface;Scanning Electron Microscopic Study (염산테트라싸이클린이 임플란트 표면에 미치는 효과;주사전자현미경적 연구)

  • The present study was performed to evaluate the effect of tetracycline - HCl on the change of implant surface microstructure according to application time. Implants with pure titanium machined surface and titanium plasma-sprayed surface were utilized. Implant surface was rubbed with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution for 1 min., $1\frac{1}{2}\;min$., 2 min., $2\frac{1}{2}\;min$. and 3min. respectively in the test group and with saline for 1 min. in the control group. Then, the specimens were processed for scanning electron microscopic observation. The following results were obtained. 1. Pure titanium machined surfaces conditioned with saline for 1 min., showed a few shallow grooves and ridges and were less irregular. 2. Pure titanium machined surfaces conditioned with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution showed more irregular and corrosive surfaces compared to the control group irrespective of the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. 3. Titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with saline for 1 min., were deposited with round amorphous particles and showed round or irregular pores that can be connected to each other. 4. The irregularity of titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with 50mg/ml tetracycline - HCl solution was lessened and the flattened areas were wider relative to the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. 5. Titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with tetracycline - HCl solution for 1 min. and $1\frac{1}{2}\;min$. were very similar to that of the control group, but the surfaces conditioned for 2 min., $2\frac{1}{2}\; min$. and 3 min. were changed. In conclusion, pure titanium machined surfaces were changed irrespective of the application time of tetracycline - HCl solution. And titanium plasma-sprayed surfaces conditioned with tetracycline - HCl solution began to be changed from $1\frac{1}{2}\;min$. This results will be applicable to the regenerative procedures for peri-implantitis treatment.

  • Friedensreich Hundertwasser , born in Vienna 1928, is a painter, an architect and an environmentalist. His architecture is radically different from the traditional , straight -lined, functional architecture practised, for example, by the Bauhaus Masters. From the very beginning , he has tried by various means to show that radical change in thinking are necessary , possible and realized. Hundertwasser's goal in this architecture is to make and give human dwelling in harmony with nature. his architecture is characterized by avoidance of straight lines, " Window Right", irregular arrangement of windows, onion dom, a wealth of colours and such environmentally -friendly consideration as planting of roofs and realizing of "tree-tenants". hundertwasser sees houses as evolving creations which are to be shaped by their inhabitants. He hates Uniformity. The irregularity is always the guiding principle in his architecture. The Hundertwasser's architeucture express his fundamental belief that we may not simply rob nature of her resources, but that we must also return territory to nature which we habe stolen from her. Roofs, terraces and courtyards planted with vegetation and " tree-tenants" build bridges between man and nature. They influse the architecture with vitality and romanticism and are a statement of a quality rather than a standard of living. It is quite possible to value the architecture of Hundertwasser as an important inspiration, as a sort of turning point in the thoughts and actions of city planners. It's success could be healing shock for the international architectural community, which is hypnotized by technology and abused by the shortsighted interests of ren.tability . Under this pressure, today's architects trend to reduce people to a mere part of the " Dwelling machine", without acknowledging that in the long run such machines eat away at people's souls.uch machines eat away at people's souls.

An Analysis on the Characteristics of Site Planning and Size of Newly-Built Elementary Schools in Sejong City (세종시 신설 초등학교의 학교규모와 배치특성 분석)

  • This study compared 24 newly-built elementary schools in Sejong City regarding the size of the site and school, as well as the outdoor space to improve the site and space programming in school planning. Among the others, one result indicates that the overall number of classes in a school should be reduced to 48, including the affiliated kindergarten, instead of the present number of 50. In addition, the number of classes must be counted in lieu of the number of student by classifying the size of school. In light of the present mean ratio of school building area per site in the city of 24.6%, which is much higher than other comparable city schools, the ratio should be about 20.0% by increasing the sports facility and outdoor spaces. In addition, the deprivation of the area caused by the district-unit-plan and the irregularity of the place should also be considered when determining the size of a school and site.

  • This study examined the running dynamic characteristics of a hybrid type wheel-rail high speed train, in which the propulsion method of maglev is applied. A wheel-rail high speed train propelled by a superconducting linear synchronous motor (SC-LSM) is expected to be superior to a maglev train regarding economical and interoperable aspects, still having powerful thrust force as maglev. In this paper, regarding the two methods of applying the SC-LSM to an existing wheel-rail train, to investigate the influences of SC-LSM propulsion on the dynamic characteristics of wheel-rail high speed train, the dynamic model of train including interaction between the rotor and stator of SC-LSM is established. Through the simulation using the model, the influence of the interaction between the rotor and stator of SC-LSM on stability, ride comfort and the effect of guideway irregularity are investigated.

A Real-time Copper Foil Inspection System using Multi-thread (다중 스레드를 이용한 실시간 동판 검사 시스템)

  • The copper foil surface inspection system is necessary for the factory automation and product quality. The developed system is composed of the high speed line scan camera, the image capture board and the processing computer. For the system resource utilization and real-time processing, multi-threaded architecture is introduced. There are one image capture thread, 2 or more defect detection threads, and one defect communication thread. To process the high-speed input image data, the I/O overlap is used through the double buffering. The defect is first detected by the predetermined threshold. To cope with the light irregularity, the compensation process is applied. After defect detection, defect type is classified with the defect width, eigenvalue ratio of the defect covariance matrix and gray level of defect. In experiment, for high-speed input image data, real-time processing is possible with multi -threaded architecture, and the 89.4% of the total 141 defects correctly classified.

  • With speed up of railway, the demand for safety of the railroad transportation is on the increase in Korea's conventional railways. In additions, freight trains with heavier axle load are required to run conventional railways. In order to solve these requirements, the increase of rail weight and the application of long rail system have been underway in conventional railways. However, the research on ties that is absolutely influencing the track stiffness in ballasted tracks has not been much progress. In this paper, the new H-typed tie is developed to increase the track stiffness and reduce the track irregularity. And from the structural analysis by FE program, the intial design drawing of the new H-typed tie is proposed.

A Long-Term Friction Test of Bridge Bearings Considering Running Speed of Next Generation Train (차세대 고속철 주행속도를 대비한 교량받침의 장기마찰시험법)

  • Structural behaviour of PSC box bridge, on which KTX train runs, is analysed up to 500 km/h speed considering 12 stages track irregularity and interaction between bridge and vehicle. To evaluate wheel forces and rotations of vehicle, lateral wheel forces, derail factor and offload factor calculated on the track combining the bridge and 170 m normal track are compared with existing allowed limits. Maximum longitudinal displacement and accumulated sliding distance of the brige bearings for simply supported and 2 span continuous PSC bridges are presented by each running speeds. Long-term friction tests based on EN-1337-2 are conducted between PTFE and DP-mate plates. Finally, the long-term friction tests are proposed to consider the increasing speed of next generation high-speed train.

Evaluation of Material Characteristics of Suspension-Type Porcelain Insulators for 154 KV Power Transmission Lines

  • The suspension arrangement of insulators provides flexibility and assists in power transmission in transmission lines. The performance of the insulator string is strongly influenced by the environmental conditions to which it is exposed, its shape and the inherent material properties of suspension-type insulators. The suspension-type insulators are mostly made from glass, porcelain and ceramic material due to their high resistivity. Irregularity in charge distribution throughout the porcelain insulator may lead to accelerated aging and electrical breakdown. A very high and steep lightning impulse voltage may also cause breakdown of suspension-type insulators. We investigated various material characteristics such as alumina addition, surface morphology, x-ray diffraction pattern and relative density of suspension porcelain insulators manufactured in 1989 (36,000 lbs.), 1995 (36,000 lbs.) and 2001 (36,000 lbs.) by the KRI Company for use in 154 kV high power transmission lines. We compared the material characteristics of these porcelain insulators with that of the top-of-the-line porcelain insulators (36,000 lbs.) manufactured by the NGK Company in 2000. These suspension-type porcelain insulators were exposed to arc and flashover tests to examine their electrical and mechanical strength. It was noted that alumina addition (17 wt.%) for K-2001 was one of the major contributors to the enhancement of the performance of the porcelain insulators and to their ability to withstand very high current generation during the arc test. The porcelain insulators manufactured during 2001 also showed the highest relative density of 95.8% as compared to the other insulators manufactured in 1989 and 1995 respectively 94.2% and 91.5%. We also discuss reports of various failure modes of suspension-type porcelain insulators.
