  • This paper proposes a new invention of the integrated generator converter system for the HVDC transmission. And it analyses the general formula for eddy currents in the rotor iron using the double Fourier series in order to trace the smallest eddy current losses of the system which connects a new designed synchronous generator windings or conventional synchronous generator windings with the v Graetz bridges.

  • Silica bricks had been in arc-furnace roofs of various sizes and steelmaking practices. The resulting materials were examined with reference to mineral and chemical changes. Silica bricks develope definite zones while in service. These zones represent a concentration gradient through the brick that results from the thermal gradient across the brick and from the furnace atmosphere. There are major brick losses by spalling as well as by melting of the hot-face surface in an iron-oxide rich liquid.

  • In this work the AC loss measurement setup based on an iron core background magnet, not used in a conventional one, has been successfully developed, To prove its validity, a round-robin test for the same Bi-2223 tape sample among three institutes has been done. The results show that test data from the developed setup well agree with losses measured at different institutes.

  • There are various environmental conditions under which ship may navigate over ocean or in harbor. Ship's torque and speed change frequently under the voyage conditions. In this case, harmonics is created in the electrical power systems. The major adverse impacts of voltage and current harmonics in the electrical power systems on generator, transformer, converter, inverter and propulsion motor lead to the increase of machine heating caused by iron and copper losses which are dependent on frequency. In this paper, an analysis of THD(total harmonic distortion) for currents and voltages in the propulsion equipment was carried out. The THD and torque ripple in the input currents of the propulsion motor have been confirmed by the simulation results.

  • Soft magnetic composites (SMCs) are especially suitable for the construction of low-cost, high-performance motors with 3-D magnetic fields. The main advantages of SMCs is that the iron particles are insulated by the surface coating and adhesive used for composite bonding, the eddy-current loss is much lower than that in laminated steels, especially at higher frequencies, and the hysteresis loss becomes the dominant component of core losses. These properties enable machines to operate at higher frequencies, resulting in reduced machine size and weight. In this paper, 3-D topologies are proposed that enable the application of SMCs to effectively reduce losses in high-speed permanent magnet (PM) motors. In addition, the electromagnetic field characteristics of the motor topologies are evaluated and compared using a non-linear finite element method (FEM) based on 3-D numerical analysis, and the feasibility of the motor designs is validated.

Minimization of Losses in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors Using Neural Network

  • In this paper, maximum efficiency operation of two types of permanent magnet synchronous motor drives, namely; surface type permanent magnet synchronous machine (SPMSM) and interior type permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM), are investigated. The efficiency of both drives is maximized by minimizing copper and iron losses. Loss minimization is implemented using flux weakening. A neural network controller (NNC) is designed for each drive, to achieve loss minimization at difffrent speeds and load torque values. Data for training the NNC are obtained through off-line simulations of SPMSM and IPMSM at difffrent operating conditions. Accuracy and fast response of each NNC is proved by applying sudden changes in speed and load and tracking the UC output. The drives'efHciency obtained by flux weakening is compared with the efficiency obtained when setting the d-axis current component to zero, while varying the angle of advance "$\vartheta$" of the PWM inverter supplying the PMSM drive. Equal efficiencies are obtained at diffErent values of $\vartheta$, derived to be function of speed and load torque. A NN is also designed, and trained to vary $\vartheta$ following the derived control law. The accuracy and fast response of the NN controller is also proved.so proved.

  • This paper is proposed an efficiency optimization control algorithm for a synchronous reluctance motor which minimizes the copper and iron losses. The design of the speed controller based on adaptive fuzzy-neural networks(AFNN) controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural networks. The proposed algorithm allows the electromagnetic losses in variable speed and torque drives to be reduced while keeping good torque control dynamics. The control performance of the hybrid artificial intelligent(HAI) controller is evaluated by analysis for various operating conditions. Analysis results are presented to show the validity of the proposed algorithm

  • Mechanical gears driven by direct contact have problems including noise, vibration and heat. In order to, solve these problems, magnetic gears having a non-contact magnetic coupling have been proposed. Through various studies on magnetic gears, we found that losses are changed when the number of magnetic poles varies in the same gear ratio. For this reason, research team expect the iron loss of the magnetic gear and the Eddy current loss of the permanent magnet will have a certain tendency depending on the number of poles. This paper identified the magnetic gear's loss tendency according to the number of poles, and laid the basis for efficiency improvement design.

  • The relationship between grain size and number of magnetic domain walls for tertiary recrystallized ultra thin 3 % Si-Fe strips was investigated. It was found that the strips with different grain size can be produced by controlling the inserting speed of sample in annealing furnace. Though grain size of the stirip became smaller than 1mm, $B_{8}$ of high value above 1.95T was obtained. But $H_{c}$ increased with decaying the grain size. The magnetic domains and losses of the ultra thin grain oriented silicon steel with smaller grian size were observed. The eddy current losses of the strips were decreased with decreasing the grain size in high frequency range because strips with smaller grain have narrower magnetic domain wall spacings. But Hysteresis losses of the strips with smaller grain have high value in low frequency range. Therefore the iron loss of ultra thin grain oriented silicon steel could be controlled by the grain size. It was clarified that the minumum tatal loses depended on the exciting frequency and grain size.

  • This paper is proposed an efficiency optimization control algorithm for a synchronous reluctance motor which minimizes the cower and iron losses. The design of the speed controller based on adaptive fuzzy-neural networks(AFNN) controller that is implemented using fuzzy control and neural networks. There exists a variety of combinations of d and f-axis current which provide a specific motor torque. The objective of the efficiency optimization controller is to seek a combination of d and q-axis current components, which provides minimum losses at a certain operating point in steady state. It is shown that the current components which directly govern the torque production have been very well regulated by the efficiency optimization control scheme. The proposed algorithm allows the electromagnetic losses in variable speed and torque drives to be reduced while keeping good torque control dynamics.
